ایوب 8

1 آنگاه بلدد شوحی پاسخ داد:

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:

2 ای ایوب، تا به کی به این حرفها ادامه می‌دهی؟ حرفهای تو باد هواست!

How long wilt thou speak these things, seeing that the words of thy mouth are as a mighty wind?

3 آیا خدای قادر مطلق عدالت و انصاف را زیر پا می‌گذارد؟

Doth God pervert judgment? Or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

4 فرزندانت به خدا گناه کردند و او به حق، ایشان را مجازات نمود.

If thy children sinned against Him, He delivered them into the hand of their transgression.

5 ولی اکنون تو به درگاه خدای قادر مطلق دعا کن.

If thou wouldest seek earnestly unto God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;

6 اگر آدم پاک و خوبی باشی، او دعایت را می‌شنود و تو را اجابت می‌کند و خانهٔ تو را برکت می‌دهد.

If thou wert pure and upright; surely now He would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

7 عاقبت تو آنچنان از خیر و برکت سرشار خواهد شد که زندگی گذشته‌ات در برابر آن ناچیز به نظر خواهد آمد.

And though thy beginning was small, yet thy end should greatly increase.

8 از سالخوردگان بپرس تا از تجربهٔ خود به تو بیاموزند.

For inquire, I pray thee, of the former generation, and apply thyself to that which their fathers have searched out —

9 ما آنقدر زندگی نکرده‌ایم که همه چیز را بدانیم.

For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow —

10 تو می‌توانی از حکمت گذشتگان درس عبرت بگیری و آنها به تو خواهند گفت که

Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

11 آیا گیاه پاپیروس می‌تواند خارج از مرداب بروید؟ آیا علف مرداب بدون آب نمی‌میرد؟

Can the rush shoot up without mire? Can the reed-grass grow without water?

12 آیا در حالی که هنوز سبز است و آماده بریدن نیست پژمرده نمی‌شود؟

Whilst it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.

13 همچنین است سرنوشت آنانی که خدا را فراموش می‌کنند. امید شخص بی‌خدا ناپایدار است.

So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hope of the godless man shall perish;

14 شخص بی‌خدا مانند کسی است که به تار عنکبوت اعتماد کند.

Whose confidence is gossamer, and whose trust is a spider's web.

15 اگر به آن تکیه نماید، می‌افتد و اگر از آن آویزان شود، آن تار او را نگه نمی‌دارد.

He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold fast thereby, but it shall not endure.

16 او مانند گیاهی است که صبحگاهان تر و تازه می‌شود و شاخه‌هایش در باغ گسترده می‌گردند.

He is green before the sun, and his shoots go forth over his garden.

17 در میان سنگها ریشه می‌دواند و خود را محکم نگه می‌دارد.

His roots are wrapped about the heap, he beholdeth the place of stones.

18 ولی وقتی آن را از ریشه می‌کنند دیگر کسی آن را به یاد نمی‌آورد،

If he be destroyed from his place, then it shall deny him: 'I have not seen thee.'

19 و گیاهان دیگری روییده جای آن را می‌گیرند. چنین است عاقبت شخص بی‌خدا.

Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others spring.

20 ولی بدان که خدا نیکان را ترک نمی‌گوید و بدکاران را کامیاب نمی‌گرداند.

Behold, God will not cast away an innocent man, neither will He uphold the evil-doers;

21 او بار دیگر دهانت را از خنده و فریادهای شادی پر خواهد کرد،

Till He fill thy mouth with laughter, and thy lips with shouting.

22 و دشمنانت را رسوا و خانهٔ شریران را خراب خواهد نمود.

They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
