ایوب 31

1 با چشمان خود عهد بستم که هرگز با نظر شهوت به دختری نگاه نکنم.

I made a couenant with mine eyes: why then should I thinke on a mayde?

2 خدای قادر مطلق که در بالاست برای ما چه تدارک دیده است؟

For what portion should I haue of God from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almightie from on hie?

3 آیا مصیبت و بلا سرنوشت شریران و بدکاران نیست؟

Is not destruction to the wicked and strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie?

4 آیا او هر کاری را که می‌کنم و هر قدمی را که برمی‌دارم نمی‌بیند.

Doeth not he beholde my wayes and tell all my steps?

5 من هرگز دروغ نگفته و کسی را فریب نداده‌ام.

If I haue walked in vanitie, or if my foote hath made haste to deceite,

6 بگذار خدا خودش مرا با ترازوی عدل بسنجد و ببیند که بی‌گناهم.

Let God weigh me in the iust balance, and he shall know mine vprightnes.

7 اگر پایم را از راه خدا بیرون گذاشته‌ام، یا اگر دلم در طمع چیزهایی بوده که چشمانم دیده است، یا اگر دستهایم به گناه آلوده شده است،

If my steppe hath turned out of the way, or mine heart hath walked after mine eye, or if any blot hath cleaued to mine handes,

8 باشد که غله‌ای که کاشته‌ام از ریشه کنده شود و یا شخص دیگری آن را درو کند.

Let me sowe, and let another eate: yea, let my plantes be rooted out.

9 اگر شیفتهٔ زن مرد دیگری شده، در کمین او نشسته‌ام،

If mine heart hath bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at the doore of my neighbour,

10 باشد که همسرم را مرد دیگری تصاحب کند؛

Let my wife grinde vnto another man, and let other men bow downe vpon her:

11 زیرا این کار زشت سزاوار مجازات است،

For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned:

12 و مانند آتشی جهنمی می‌تواند تمام هستی مرا بسوزاند و از بین ببرد.

Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase,

13 اگر نسبت به غلام یا کنیز خود بی‌انصافی می‌کردم، وقتی که از من شکایت داشتند،

If I did contemne the iudgement of my seruant, and of my mayde, when they did contend with me,

14 چگونه می‌توانستم با خدا روبرو شوم؟ و هنگامی که در این باره از من سؤال می‌کرد، چه جوابی می‌دادم؟

What then shall I do when God standeth vp? and when he shall visit me, what shall I answere?

15 چون هم من و هم خدمتگزارانم، به دست یک خدا سرشته شده‌ایم.

He that hath made me in the wombe, hath he not made him? hath not he alone facioned vs in the wombe?

16 هرگز از کمک کردن به فقرا کوتاهی نکرده‌ام. هرگز نگذاشته‌ام بیوه‌زنی در ناامیدی بماند،

If I restrained the poore of their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile,

17 یا یتیمی گرسنگی بکشد، بلکه خوراک خود را با آنها قسمت کرده‌ام

Or haue eaten my morsels alone, and the fatherles hath not eaten thereof,

18 و تمام عمر خود را صرف نگهداری از آنها نموده‌ام.

(For from my youth hee hath growen vp with me as with a father, and from my mothers wombe I haue bene a guide vnto her)

19 اگر کسی را می‌دیدم که لباس ندارد و از سرما می‌لرزد،

If I haue seene any perish for want of clothing, or any poore without couering,

20 لباسی از پشم گوسفندانم به او می‌دادم تا از سرما در امان بماند و او با تمام وجود برای من دعای خیر می‌کرد.

If his loynes haue not blessed me, because he was warmed with the fleece of my sheepe,

21 اگر من با استفاده از نفوذی که در دادگاه داشته‌ام حق یتیمی را پایمال نموده باشم

If I haue lift vp mine hande against the fatherlesse, when I saw that I might helpe him in the gate,

22 بازویم از کتفم بیفتد و دستم بشکند.

Let mine arme fal from my shoulder, and mine arme be broken from the bone.

23 هرگز جرأت نمی‌کردم چنین کاری را انجام دهم، زیرا از مجازات و عظمت خدا می‌ترسیدم.

For Gods punishment was fearefull vnto me, and I could not be deliuered from his highnes.

24 هرگز به طلا و نقره تکیه نکرده‌ام

If I made gold mine hope, or haue sayd to the wedge of golde, Thou art my confidence,

25 و شادی من متکی به مال و ثروت نبوده است.

If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much,

26 هرگز فریفتهٔ خورشید تابان و ماه درخشان نشده‌ام و آنها را از دور نبوسیده و پرستش نکرده‌ام؛

If I did behold the sunne, when it shined, or the moone, walking in her brightnes,

27

If mine heart did flatter me in secrete, or if my mouth did kisse mine hand,

28 چون اگر مرتکب چنین کارهایی شده بودم مفهومش این بود که خدای متعال را انکار کرده‌ام، و چنین گناهی بی‌سزا نمی‌ماند.

(This also had bene an iniquitie to be condemned: for I had denied the God aboue)

29 هرگز از مصیبت دشمن شادی نکرده‌ام،

If I reioyced at his destruction that hated me, or was mooued to ioye when euill came vpon him,

30 هرگز آنها را نفرین نکرده‌ام و زبانم را از این گناه باز داشته‌ام.

Neither haue I suffred my mouth to sinne, by wishing a curse vnto his soule.

31 هرگز نگذاشته‌ام خدمتگزارانم گرسنه بمانند.

Did not the men of my Tabernacle say, Who shall giue vs of his flesh? we can not bee satisfied.

32 هرگز نگذاشته‌ام غریبه‌ای شب را در کوچه بخوابد، بلکه در خانهٔ خود را به روی او باز گذاشته‌ام.

The stranger did not lodge in the streete, but I opened my doores vnto him, that went by the way.

33 هرگز مانند دیگران به خاطر ترس از سرزنش مردم، سعی نکرده‌ام گناهانم را پنهان سازم و خاموش در داخل خانهٔ خود بنشینم.

If I haue hid my sinne, as Adam, concealing mine iniquitie in my bosome,

Though I could haue made afraid a great multitude, yet the most contemptible of the families did feare me: so I kept silence, and went not out of the doore.

35 ای کاش کسی پیدا می‌شد که به حرفهایم گوش بدهد! من دفاعیهٔ خود را تقدیم می‌کنم. بگذار قادر مطلق جواب مرا بدهد و اتهاماتی را که به من نسبت داده شده به من نشان دهد،

Oh that I had some to heare me! beholde my signe that the Almightie will witnesse for me: though mine aduersary should write a booke against me,

36 و من آنها را مانند تاجی بر سر می‌گذارم!

Woulde not I take it vpon my shoulder, and binde it as a crowne vnto me?

37 تمام کارهایی را که کرده‌ام برای او تعریف می‌کنم و سربلند در حضور او می‌ایستم.

I will tell him the nomber of my goings, and goe vnto him as to a prince.

38 اگر زمینی که در آن کشت می‌کنم مرا متهم سازد به اینکه صاحبش را کشته‌ام و آن را تصاحب کرده‌ام تا از محصولش استفاده برم،

If my lande cry against me, or the furrowes thereof complayne together,

39

If I haue eaten the fruites thereof without siluer: or if I haue grieued the soules of the masters thereof,

40 باشد که در آن زمین به جای گندم، خار و به عوض جو، علفهای هرز بروید. پایان سخنان ایوب.

Let thistles growe in steade of wheate, and cockle in the stead of Barley. The wordes of Iob are ended.
