ایوب 21

1 آنگاه ایوب پاسخ داد:

And Job answered and said,

2 به من گوش دهید! تنها تسلی‌ای که می‌توانید به من بدهید این است که بگذارید حرفم را بزنم. پس از آن اگر خواستید، باز هم مرا مسخره کنید.

Hear attentively my speech, and let this replace your consolations.

Suffer me and I will speak; and after I have spoken, mock on!

4 من از خدا شکایت دارم، نه از انسان. بی‌تابی من به همین دلیل است.

As for me, is my complaint to a man? or wherefore should not my spirit be impatient?

5 به من نگاه کنید و از تعجب دست روی دهان بگذارید و سکوت نمایید.

Mark me, and be astonished, and lay the hand upon the mouth.

6 وقتی این را به یاد می‌آورم، از ترس به لرزه می‌افتم.

Even when I think [thereon], I am affrighted, and trembling taketh hold of my flesh.

7 چرا بدکاران تا سن پیری و کهولت زنده می‌مانند و کامیاب می‌شوند؟

Wherefore do the wicked live, grow old, yea, become mighty in power?

8 فرزندان و نوه‌هایشان بزرگ می‌شوند و دورشان را می‌گیرند.

Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.

9 خانه‌های آنها از هر خطری در امان است و خدا ایشان را مجازات نمی‌کند.

Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.

10 گله‌های آنها زاد و ولد می‌کنند و زیاد می‌شوند.

Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

11 فرزندانشان از خوشحالی مانند گوسفندان جست و خیز می‌کنند و می‌رقصند

They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

12 و با نوای دف و بربط آواز می‌خوانند و با صدای نی به شادی می‌پردازند.

They shout to the tambour and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.

13 آنها روزهای خود را در سعادتمندی به سر می‌برند و راحت می‌میرند، (Sheol h7585)

They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment go down to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

14 در حالی که هرگز طالب خدا نبوده‌اند و نخواسته‌اند راههای خدا را بشناسند.

And they say unto God, Depart from us, for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways!

15 شریران می‌گویند: «قادر مطلق کیست که او را عبادت نماییم؟ چه فایده اگر دست دعا به سویش دراز کنیم؟»

What is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what are we profited if we pray unto him?

16 گناهکاران به هر کاری دست بزنند موفق می‌شوند! ولی من نمی‌خواهم با آنها سروکار داشته باشم.

Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked be far from me!

17 تا به حال چند بار اتفاق افتاده که چراغ بدکاران خاموش شود و آنها به بدبختی دچار گردند؟ و یا چند بار اتفاق افتاده که خدا آنها را مجازات کند،

How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and cometh their calamity upon them? Doth he distribute sorrows [to them] in his anger?

18 و ایشان را مثل کاه در برابر باد و مانند خاک در برابر طوفان پراکنده سازد؟

Do they become as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away?

19 ولی شما می‌گویید: «خدا فرزندان مرد شرور را مجازات می‌کند!» اما من می‌گویم که خدا باید خود شرور را مجازات کند! بگذار مزهٔ مجازات را خودش بچشد!

God layeth up [the punishment of] his iniquity for his children; he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it]:

20 بله، بگذار مرد شرور خودش به سزای اعمالش برسد و پیالهٔ خشم خدای قادر مطلق را سر بکشد.

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the fury of the Almighty.

21 وقتی انسان می‌میرد دیگر چه احساسی می‌تواند دربارهٔ خانواده‌اش داشته باشد؟

For what pleasure should he have in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?

22 کیست که بتواند به خدا چیزی بیاموزد؟ حتی خردمندان را او داوری می‌کند.

Can any teach God knowledge? And he it is that judgeth those that are high.

23 او از یک سو اشخاص قوی و سالم، مرفه و ثروتمند را هلاک می‌کند

One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet;

24

His sides are full of fat, and the marrow of his bones is moistened;

25 و از سوی دیگر کسانی را که در شدت فقر و تنگدستی به سر می‌برند و در زندگی هرگز طعم خوشی را نچشیده‌اند از بین می‌برد.

And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and hath not tasted good:

26 هر دو دسته در خاک دفن می‌شوند و کرمها بدن آنها را می‌خورند.

Together they lie down in the dust, and the worms cover them.

27 از افکارتان و نقشه‌هایی که برای آزار من می‌کشید آگاه هستم.

Lo, I know your thoughts, and the devices ye wrongfully imagine against me.

28 می‌خواهید بگویید: «اشخاص ثروتمند و شرور برای گناهانشان دچار بلا و بدبختی شده‌اند.»

For ye say, Where is the house of the noble? and where the tent of the dwellings of the wicked?

29 ولی من می‌گویم: «از هر فرد دنیا دیده‌ای که بپرسید خواهد گفت

Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens:

30 که آدم بدکار معمولاً در روز بلا و مصیبت در امان است و جان به در می‌برد. هیچ‌کس مرد شرور را رو در رو متهم نمی‌کند و کسی وی را به سزای اعمالش نمی‌رساند. حتی بعد از مرگش او را با احترام به خاک می‌سپارند و بر سر قبرش نگهبان قرار می‌دهند؛

That the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity? They are led forth to the day of wrath.

Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

32

Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb.

33 بسیاری در مراسم تدفین او شرکت می‌کنند و با خاک نرم او را می‌پوشانند.»

The clods of the valley are sweet unto him; and every man followeth suit after him, as there were innumerable before him.

34 شما چگونه می‌توانید با این یاوه‌گویی‌ها و دروغها مرا دلداری دهید؟

How then comfort ye me in vain? Your answers remain perfidious.
