ایوب 14

1 انسان چقدر ناتوان است. عمرش کوتاه و پر از زحمت است.

Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble.

2 مثل گل، لحظه‌ای می‌شکفد و زود پژمرده می‌شود و همچون سایهٔ ابری که در حرکت است به سرعت ناپدید می‌گردد.

He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

3 ای خدا، آیا با انسانهای ضعیف بایستی اینچنین سختگیری کنی و از آنها بخواهی تا حساب پس دهند؟

And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

4 چطور انتظار داری از یک چیز کثیف چیز پاکی بیرون آید؟

Who can bring a clean [thing] out of an unclean? not one.

5 روزهای عمر او را از پیش تعیین کرده‌ای و او قادر نیست آن را تغییر دهد.

Seeing his days [are] determined, the number of his months [are] with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

6 پس نگاه غضب‌آلود خود را از وی برگردان و او را به حال خود بگذار تا پیش از آنکه بمیرد چند صباحی در آرامش زندگی کند.

Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

7 برای درخت امیدی هست، چون اگر بریده شود باز سبز می‌شود و شاخه‌های تر و تازه می‌رویاند.

For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

8 اگر ریشه‌هایش در زمین فرسوده شود و کنده‌اش بپوسد، باز مانند نهال تازه نشانده‌ای به مجرد رسیدن آب از نو جوانه زده، شکوفه می‌آورد.

Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

[Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

10 ولی وقتی انسان می‌میرد، رمقی در او باقی نمی‌ماند. دم آخر را برمی‌آورد و اثری از او باقی نمی‌ماند.

But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where [is] he?

11 همان‌طور که آب دریا بخار می‌گردد و آب رودخانه در خشکسالی ناپدید می‌شود، همچنان انسان برای همیشه بخواب می‌رود و تا نیست شدن آسمانها دیگر برنمی‌خیزد و کسی او را بیدار نمی‌کند.

[As] the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens [be] no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

13 ای کاش مرا تا زمانی که خشمگین هستی در کنار مردگان پنهان می‌کردی و پس از آن دوباره به یاد می‌آوردی. (Sheol h7585)

O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! (Sheol h7585)

14 وقتی انسان بمیرد، آیا دوباره زنده می‌شود؟ من در تمام روزهای سخت زندگی در انتظار مرگ و خلاصی خود خواهم بود.

If a man die, shall he live [again]? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

15 آنگاه تو مرا صدا خواهی کرد و من جواب خواهم داد؛ و تو مشتاق این مخلوق خود خواهی شد.

Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

16 مواظب قدمهایم خواهی بود و گناهانم را از نظر دور خواهی داشت.

For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

17 تو خطاهای مرا خواهی پوشاند و گناهانم را پاک خواهی نمود.

My transgression [is] sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

18 کوهها فرسوده و ناپدید می‌شوند. آب، سنگها را خرد می‌کند و به صورت شن درمی‌آورد. سیلابها خاک زمین را می‌شوید و با خود می‌برد. به همین گونه تو امید انسان را باطل می‌سازی.

And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.

The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow [out] of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

20 او را از توان می‌اندازی و پیر و فرتوت به کام مرگ می‌فرستی.

Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

21 اگر پسرانش به عزت و افتخار برسند او از آنها اطلاع نخواهد داشت و اگر به ذلت و خواری بیفتند از آن نیز بی‌خبر خواهد بود.

His sons come to honour, and he knoweth [it] not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth [it] not of them.

22 نصیب انسان فقط اندوه و درد است.

But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.
