| خداوند می‌فرماید: «من مرد ویرانگری را علیه بابِل برخواهم انگیخت تا آن را با ساکنانش نابود کند. | 1 |
Thus, saith Yahweh—Behold me! stirring up against Babylon, And against the inhabitants of the centre of them who rise up against me, —A wind that destroyeth;
| بیگانگان را خواهم فرستاد تا بابِل را مانند خرمن بکوبند و ویران سازند و در آن روز بلا، از هر طرف آن را احاطه کنند. | 2 |
And I will send to Babylon winnowers, And they shall winnow her, And shall empty her land, —For they are against her round about in the day of calamity.
| تیرهای دشمن، کمانداران بابِل را از پای در خواهد آورد و زرهٔ مردان جنگی او را خواهد شکافت؛ هیچ‌یک از ایشان جان به در نخواهد برد؛ پیر و جوان، یکسان نابود خواهند شد. | 3 |
Let not the archer tread his bow, Nor lift himself up in his coat of mail, —And do not spare her young men, Devote to destruction all her host.
| جنازه‌های ایشان در تمام سرزمین دیده خواهند شد و مجروحینشان در کوچه‌ها خواهند افتاد، | 4 |
So shall they fall wounded in the land of Chaldea, —Yea thrust through, in her streets,
| چون سرزمین آنان غرق گناه است، گناه در حق من که خدای قدوس اسرائیل می‌باشم. اما من که خداوند لشکرهای آسمان هستم، مردم اسرائیل و یهودا را که در این سرزمین پر از گناه زندگی می‌کنند، فراموش نکرده‌ام. | 5 |
For Israel and Judah have not been widowed Of their God, Of Yahweh of hosts, —But, their land, hath been filled with punishment for guilt from the Holy One of Israel
| «از بابِل فرار کنید! جانتان را نجات دهید! مبادا زمانی که بابِل را به مکافات گناهانش می‌رسانم، شما نیز هلاک شوید. | 6 |
Flee out of the midst of Babylon And deliver ye every man his own life, Be not cut off in her punishment, —For it is Yahweh’s, time of avenging, A recompense, is he repaying unto her.
| بابِل در دست من مثل یک جام طلایی بود که تمام مردم جهان از آن شراب نوشیده، مست و دیوانه می‌شدند. | 7 |
A cup of gold, was Babylon in the hand of Yahweh, Making drunk all the earth, —Of her wine, have the nations drunk, For this cause have the nations been acting as men who are mad.
| ولی این جام طلایی، ناگهان افتاده، خواهد شکست! پس برایش گریه کنید؛ برای او دارو بیاورید، شاید شفا یابد! | 8 |
Suddenly, hath Babylon fallen and been broken, —Howl ye over her Fetch balsam for her pain, Peradventure she shall be healed!
| بیگانگانی که در بابِل ساکنند، می‌گویند:”ما خواستیم به او کمک کنیم، اما نتوانستیم. اکنون دیگر هیچ چیز نمی‌تواند نجاتش بدهد. پس او را به حال خودش بگذاریم و به وطنمان برگردیم، چون این خداست که او را مجازات می‌کند.“ | 9 |
We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed, Leave her and let us go every one to his own land, —For her judgment, reacheth unto the heavens, And mounteth as far as the skies.
| آنگاه قوم من نیز که در بابِل اسیرند، فریاد برآورده، خواهند گفت:”خداوند از ما حمایت کرده است؛ پس بیایید تمام کارهایی را که او در حق ما انجام داده، برای اهالی اورشلیم بیان کنیم.“» | 10 |
Yahweh hath brought forth our righteousnesses, —Come and let us relate in Zion the work of Yahweh our God.
| خداوند پادشاهان ماد را برانگیخته است تا بر بابِل هجوم ببرند و آن را خراب کنند. این است انتقام خداوند از کسانی که به قوم او ظلم کردند و خانه‌اش را بی‌حرمت نمودند. پس تیرها را تیز کنید؛ سپرها را به دست گیرید! برای حمله به دیوارهای بابِل، علائم را بر پا نمایید؛ تعداد نگهبانان و کشیکچیان را اضافه کنید و کمین بگذارید! خداوند هر چه دربارهٔ بابِل گفته است، به انجام خواهد رسانید. | 11 |
Polish the arrows, Lay hold of the shields, —Yahweh hath roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, For against Babylon, his purpose is, to destroy her, —For it is, The avenging of Yahweh, The avenging of his temple.

Against the walls of Babylon, Lift ye up a standard, Strengthen ye the watch, Station the watchmen, Make ready the ambuscades, —For Yahweh hath both planned and also performed that which he had spoken against the inhabitants of Babylon.
| ای بندرگاه ثروتمند، ای مرکز بزرگ تجارت، دوره‌ات به پایان رسیده و رشتهٔ عمرت پاره شده است! | 13 |
O thou who dwellest upon many waters, Who aboundest in treasures, —Come hath thine end! The measure of thine unrighteous gain!
| خداوند لشکرهای آسمان به ذات خود قسم خورده و گفته است که سربازان دشمن، همچون دسته‌های ملخ که مزرعه را می‌پوشانند، شهرهای بابِل را پر خواهند ساخت و فریاد پیروزی ایشان به آسمان خواهد رسید. | 14 |
Yahweh of hosts hath sworn, by his own soul: Surely I have filled thee with men as with locusts, And they have answered against thee with a shout.
| خدای ما با قدرت خود زمین را آفرید و با حکمتش جهان را بنیاد نهاد و با دانایی خود آسمانها را به وجود آورد. | 15 |
He that Made the earth in his might, Established the world in his wisdom, —And in his understanding, stretched out the heavens
| به فرمان اوست که ابرها در آسمان می‌غرند؛ اوست که ابرها را از نقاط دور دست می‌آورد، برق ایجاد می‌کند، باران می‌فرستد، و باد را از خزانه‌های خود بیرون می‌آورد. | 16 |
By the voice that he uttered, there was a tumult of waters in the heavens, And he caused vapours to ascend from the end of the earth, —Lightnings for the rain, made he, And brought forth wind out of his treasures.
| پس آنانی که در مقابل بتهایشان سجده می‌کنند، چقدر نادانند! سازندگان بتها شرمسار و رسوا خواهند شد، زیرا مجسمه را خدا می‌نامند، در حالی که نشانی از زندگی در آن نیست. | 17 |
Every son of earth had become too brutish to know, —Every goldsmith, hath been put to shame, by a graven image, —For a falsehood, is his molten image Seeing there is no breath in them:
| همهٔ این بتها، بی‌ارزش و مسخره‌اند! وقتی سازندگانشان از بین بروند، خودشان هم از میان خواهند رفت. | 18 |
Vanity, they are, A handiwork of mockeries, —In the time of their visitation, shall they perish.
| اما خدای یعقوب مثل این بتها نیست؛ او خالق همهٔ موجودات است و اسرائیل، قوم خاص او می‌باشد؛ نام او خداوند لشکرهای آسمان است. | 19 |
Not like these, is the portion of Jacob, For the fashioner of all things, is he! And the portion of his inheritance, —Yahweh of hosts, is his name.
| خداوند می‌فرماید: «ای بابِل، تو گرز من هستی. از تو برای در هم کوبیدن قومها و نابود کردن ممالک استفاده کرده‌ام. | 20 |
A war-club, art thou for me, Weapons of war; Therefore will I Beat down with thee—nations, and Destroy with thee—kingdoms;
| به دست تو لشکرها را تار و مار نموده‌ام و اسب و سوارش، ارابه و ارابه‌ران را از بین برده‌ام. | 21 |
and Beat down with thee—the horse and his rider, —and Beat down with thee—the chariot and its rider;
| بله، به‌وسیلۀ تو مردم همهٔ سرزمینها را از مرد و زن، پیر و جوان، هلاک ساخته‌ام، | 22 |
and Beat down with thee—man and woman, and Beat down with thee—elder and youth, and Beat down with thee—young man and virgin;
| چوپانها و گله‌ها، کشاورزان و گاوهایشان را از بین برده‌ام و حاکمان و فرماندهان را نابود کرده‌ام. | 23 |
and Beat down with thee—the shepherd and his flock, and Beat down with thee—the plowman and his yoke; —and Beat down with thee—governors and deputies:
| ولی من، تو و مردمت را به خاطر تمام بدیهایی که به قوم من کرده‌اید، مجازات خواهم نمود.» این است فرمودۀ خداوند. | 24 |
So will I recompense to Babylon, And to all the inhabitants of Chaldea, All their wickedness which they have committed against Zion before your eyes, —Declareth Yahweh.
| «ای بابِل، ای کوه مستحکم، ای ویران کنندهٔ جهان، اینک من دشمن توام! دستم را بر ضد تو بلند می‌کنم و تو را از آن بلندی فرود می‌آورم. از تو چیزی جز یک تپه خاکستر باقی نخواهم گذارد. | 25 |
Behold me! against thee, O destroying mountain Declareth Yahweh, That destroyest all the earth, —Therefore will I stretch out my hand over thee, And roll thee down from the crags, And make of thee a burning mountain:
| تو برای همیشه ویران خواهی ماند، حتی سنگهایت نیز دیگر برای بنای ساختمان به کار نخواهد رفت.» این است فرمودۀ خداوند. | 26 |
So shall they not fetch from thee A stone for a corner nor A stone for a foundation, —For desolations age-abiding, shalt thou become Declareth Yahweh.
| «به قومها خبر دهید تا برای جنگ با بابِل بسیج شوند! شیپور جنگ بنوازید. به سپاهیان آرارات، مینی و اشکناز بگویید که حمله کنند. فرماندهانی تعیین کنید تا دستور حمله را بدهند. اسبان زیاد فراهم آورید! | 27 |
Set ye up an ensign in the earth Blow ye a horn among the nations Hallow against her—nations, Summon against her the kingdoms of Ararat Minni, and Ashkenaz, —Set in charge against her a marshal, Bring up cavalry like hairy locusts:
| لشکریان پادشاهان ماد و فرماندهانشان و سپاهیان تمام کشورهایی را که زیر سلطهٔ آنها هستند، فرا خوانید!» | 28 |
Hallow against her—nations, With the kings of Media, With her governors and all her deputies, —And with all the land of his dominion:
| بابِل می‌لرزد و از درد به خود می‌پیچد، چون نقشه‌هایی که خداوند بر ضد او دارد، تغییر نمی‌پذیرند. بابِل ویران خواهد شد و کسی در آن باقی نخواهد ماند. | 29 |
Then did the land tremble and was in pain, —For the plans of Yahweh, had been established against Babylon, To make the land of Babylon an astonishment, without inhabitant.
| سربازان شجاعش دیگر نمی‌جنگند، همه در استحکامات خود می‌مانند؛ زیرا جرأتشان را از دست داده‌اند و همچون زنان، ضعیف شده‌اند. نیروهای مهاجم، خانه‌ها را سوزانده و دروازه‌های شهر را شکسته‌اند. | 30 |
The heroes of Babylon have ceased to fight They have remained in the strongholds, Parched is their might, They have become women, —They have set fire to her habitations, Broken are her bars!
| قاصدان یکی پس از دیگری می‌شتابند تا به پادشاه بابِل خبر رسانند که همه چیز از دست رفته است! | 31 |
Runner to meet runner, shall they run, And teller to meet teller, -To tell the king of Babylon, That captured is his city at the end!
| تمام راهها بسته شده‌اند، استحکامات و برج و باروها سوخته و سربازان به وحشت افتاده‌اند. | 32 |
and The fords, have been seized, and The reeds, have they burned with fire; and The men of war, are dismayed!
| خداوند لشکرهای آسمان، خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید: «به‌زودی بابِل مثل گندم زیر پاهای خرمن‌کوبان، کوبیده خواهد شد.» | 33 |
For, thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, The daughter of Babylon, is like a threshing, floor at the time of treading her: Yet a little, and the time of harvest shall overtake her.
| یهودیان بابِل می‌گویند: «نِبوکَدنِصَّر، پادشاه بابِل، ما را دریده و خرد کرده و همه چیزمان را نابود ساخته است؛ مثل اژدها ما را بلعیده و شکم خود را از ثروت ما پر کرده و ما را از سرزمین‌مان بیرون رانده است. ای کاش ظلم و ستمی که بر ما روا داشته، بر سر خودش بیاید! خدا انتقام خون ما را از او بگیرد!» | 34 |
Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon—Hath devoured me Hath vexed me, Hath set me down as an empty vessel, He hath swallowed me like a sea-monster, He hath filled his belly with my dainties, —He hath driven me away!
| 35 |
The violence done to me and to my flesh, be upon Babylon! Shall the inhabitress of Zion say, —Yea, my blood, be upon the inhabitant of Chaldea! Shall Jerusalem say.
| خداوند جواب می‌دهد: «من به دعوی شما رسیدگی خواهم کرد و انتقامتان را خواهم گرفت. من رودخانه‌ها و چشمه‌های بابِل را خشک خواهم کرد. | 36 |
Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, Behold me! pleading thy cause, So then I will execute the avenging of thee; And will dry up her sea, And make dry her spring:
| این سرزمین به ویرانه‌ای تبدیل خواهد شد و حیوانات وحشی در آن زندگی خواهند کرد؛ هر که بر آن نظر اندازد، به وحشت خواهد افتاد و کسی در آن ساکن نخواهد شد. | 37 |
Thus shall Babylon become—Heaps A habitation of jackals An astonishment, and A hissing, Without inhabitant.
| بابِلی‌ها همگی مانند شیرها خواهند غرید، و همچون شیربچگان نعره خواهند زد. | 38 |
Together, like wild lions, shall they roar, —They have growled like lions’ whelps.
| و وقتی همه مست شراب شدند، آنگاه بزم دیگری برایشان تدارک خواهم دید و چنان مستشان خواهم کرد تا به خواب ابدی فرو روند و هرگز از آن بیدار نشوند. | 39 |
When they are heated, I will spread their banquets, And let them drink that they may become uproarious, So shall they sleep an age-abiding sleep and not wake, —Declareth Yahweh.
| ایشان را مثل بره و قوچ و بز به کشتارگاه خواهم کشاند. | 40 |
I will bring them down As fat lambs to slaughter, —As rams with he-goats.
| «ببینید بابِل چگونه سقوط کرده، آن بابِل بزرگ که مورد ستایش تمام دنیا بود! همۀ قومهای جهان از دیدن آن به وحشت خواهند افتاد! | 41 |
How hath Sheshach, been captured! How hath the praise of all the earth been seized! How hath Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
| دریا بر بابِل طغیان کرده، امواجش آن را خواهد پوشانید. | 42 |
The sea, hath gone up over Babylon, —With the multitude of its rolling waves, is she covered.
| شهرهایش ویران گشته، تمام سرزمینش به بیابانی خشک تبدیل خواهد شد. هیچ‌کس در آنجا زندگی نخواهد کرد و مسافری نیز از آن عبور نخواهد نمود، | 43 |
Her cities have become, an astonishment, A land parched up, and a waste plain, —A land wherein shall no man dwell, Nor pass through them a son of the earth-born!
| دیوارهای بابِل فرو خواهد ریخت. من بل، خدای بابِل را مجازات خواهم کرد و آنچه بلعیده است، از دهانش بیرون خواهم آورد و قومها دیگر برای پرستش آن نخواهند آمد. | 44 |
So will I bring punishment upon Bel in Babylon, And will bring forth what he hath swallowed out of his mouth, And the nations shall stream unto him no more, —Even the wall of Babylon hath fallen!
| «ای قوم من، از بابِل فرار کنید. خود را از خشم من نجات دهید. | 45 |
Come ye forth out of her midst O my people, And deliver ye every man his own life, —Because of the glow of the anger of Yahweh.
| وقتی شایعهٔ نزدیک شدن نیروهای دشمن را شنیدید، مضطرب نشوید. این شایعات در تمام این سالها شنیده خواهد شد. سپس ظلم و ستم بر سرزمین حکمفرما شده، بابِل درگیر جنگ داخلی خواهد گشت. | 46 |
And let not your heart be timid, nor be ye afraid, Because of the report that is reported in the earth When there shall come in one year, the report And after that in another year, the report, With violence in the earth, and ruler upon ruler.
| آنگاه زمانی فرا خواهد رسید که من بابِل را با تمام بتهایش مجازات خواهم کرد و کوچه‌هایش از جنازه‌ها پر خواهند شد. | 47 |
Therefore, lo! days coming when I will bring punishment upon the images of Babylon, And all her land, shall turn pale, —Yea, all her wounded, shall fall in her midst.
| آسمان و زمین شادی خواهند نمود، چون از شمال، لشکریان ویرانگر به جنگ بابِل خواهند آمد. | 48 |
Then shall shout over Babylon—heavens and earth and all who are therein, —For out of the North, shall come to her the spoilers Declareth Yahweh.
| همان‌طور که بابِل باعث هلاکت بسیاری از قوم اسرائیل شد، خود نیز به همان‌گونه نابود خواهد گشت. | 49 |
Not only hath Babylon, caused the fall of the slain of Israel, —By Babylon, also have fallen the slain of all the earth.
| حال، ای شما که از خطر شمشیر، جان به در برده‌اید، بروید! درنگ نکنید! هر چند که دور از وطن هستید و به اورشلیم می‌اندیشید، خداوند را به یاد آرید! | 50 |
Ye that have escaped the sword, depart do not stand still, —Remember, from afar Yahweh, Let, Jerusalem, come up on your heart: -
| «شما می‌گویید:”ما رسوا شده‌ایم، چون بابِلی‌های بیگانه، خانهٔ خداوند را بی‌حرمت ساخته‌اند.“ | 51 |
We have turned pale for we have heard a reproach, Confusion, hath covered our faces, —For aliens have entered upon the hallowed places of the house of Yahweh!
| ولی بدانید که زمان نابودی بتهای بابِل هم فرا خواهد رسید. در سراسر این سرزمین نالهٔ مجروحین شنیده خواهد شد. | 52 |
Therefore, lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When I will bring punishment upon her images; And throughout all her land, shall the pierced one groan.
| حتی اگر بابِل می‌توانست خود را تا به آسمان برافرازد و برج محکمی در آنجا بسازد، باز من غارتگران را به سراغ او می‌فرستادم تا نابودش کنند. من، خداوند، این را می‌گویم. | 53 |
Though Babylon should mount the heavens, And though she should fortify her strong high-place, From me, should come spoilers unto her Declareth Yahweh.
| «گوش کنید! از بابِل صدای گریه به گوش می‌رسد، صدای نابودی عظیم! | 54 |
A voice of outcry from Babylon! And a great crash from the land of the Chaldeans!
| زیرا من در حال ویران کردن بابِل هستم و صدای بلند آن را خاموش می‌کنم. لشکریان دشمن مانند خروش امواج دریا بر او هجوم می‌آورند | 55 |
For, Yahweh, is spoiling Babylon, And will destroy out of her the loud voice, —Though their waves have roared like many waters, Been uttered the loud boast of their voice.
| تا غارتش نمایند و سربازانش را کشته، سلاحهایشان را بشکنند. من خدایی هستم که مجازات می‌کنم، بنابراین، بابِل را به سزای اعمالش خواهم رساند. | 56 |
For there hath come upon her—upon Babylon—a spoiler, And captured are their heroes And broken are their bows, —For, a GOD of recompenses, is Yahweh, He will surely repay.
| بزرگان، حکیمان، رهبران، فرماندهان و مردان جنگی او را مست خواهم ساخت تا به خواب ابدی فرو رفته، دیگر هرگز بیدار نشوند! این است کلام من که پادشاه جهان و خداوند لشکرهای آسمان هستم!» | 57 |
Then will I make drunk—Her princes and her wise men, Her governors, and her deputies and her heroes, And they shall sleep an age-abiding sleep, and not wake, —Declareth the King, Yahweh of hosts, is his name.
| خداوند لشکرهای آسمان می‌فرماید: «دیوارهای پهن بابِل با خاک یکسان شده، دروازه‌های بلندش خواهند سوخت. معمارهای ممالک گوناگون بیهوده زحمت کشیده‌اند، چون ثمر کارشان با آتش از بین خواهد رفت.» | 58 |
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts—The broad walls of Babylon, shall be laid utterly bare, And, her lofty gates, with fire, shall be burned, —And peoples shall labour for emptiness, And populations, for the fire, shall weary themselves.
| در سال چهارم سلطنت صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا، این پیغام بر من نازل شد تا آن را به سرایا (پسر نیریا، نوهٔ محسیا) برسانم. سرایا، ملتزم صدقیا بود و قرار بود همراه او به بابِل برود. | 59 |
The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah into Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign, —now Seraiah, was travelling-marshal.
| تمام بلایایی را که خدا دربارهٔ بابِل فرموده بود، یعنی تمام مطالبی را که در بالا ذکر شده است، روی طوماری نوشتم، | 60 |
So Jeremiah wrote all the calamity which was to come unto Babylon in one scroll; even all these words which have been written against Babylon.
| و آن را به سرایا داده، گفتم: «وقتی به بابِل رسیدی، هر چه نوشته‌ام بخوان و سپس چنین بگو:”ای خداوند، تو فرموده‌ای بابِل را چنان خراب خواهی کرد که هیچ موجود زنده‌ای در آن یافت نشود و تا ابد ویران بماند.“ | 61 |
Then said Jeremiah unto Seraiah, —When thou comest into Babylon, then shalt thou look out and read all these words;
| 62 |
and thou shalt say—O Yahweh! thou, thyself, hast spoken against this place to cut it off, That there be in it no inhabitant Neither man nor beast, —But desolations age-abiding, shall it become!
| بعد از خواندن طومار، سنگی به آن ببند و آن را در رود فرات بینداز، | 63 |
And it shall be when thou hast made an end of reading this scroll, that thou shalt bind thereunto a stone, and cast it in the midst of the Euphrates,
| و بگو:”بابِل نیز به همین شکل غرق خواهد شد و به سبب بلایی که بر سرش خواهد آمد، دیگر هرگز سر بلند نخواهد کرد.“» (پیغامهای ارمیا در اینجا پایان می‌پذیرد.) | 64 |
Then shalt thou say, —In like manner, shall Babylon sink and not rise Because of the calamity which I am about to bring thereupon: So shall they perish. Thus far, are, the words of Jeremiah.
