ارمیا 5

1 خداوند می‌فرماید: «تمام کوچه‌های اورشلیم را بگردید. بر سر چهارراه‌ها بایستید. همه جا را خوب جستجو کنید! اگر بتوانید حتی یک شخص با انصاف و درستکار پیدا کنید، من این شهر را از بین نخواهم برد!

Cumpasse ye the weies of Jerusalem, and loke, and biholde ye, and seke ye in the stretis therof, whether ye fynden a man doynge doom, and sekynge feith; and Y schal be merciful to hem.

2 این قوم حتی به نام من قسم می‌خورند!»

That if also thei seien, The Lord lyueth, yhe, thei schulen swere this falsli.

3 ای خداوند، تو به یک چیز اهمیت می‌دهی و آن راستی و درستی است. تو سعی کردی ایشان را اصلاح کنی، اما آنها نخواستند؛ هر چند ایشان را زدی، ولی دردی احساس نکردند! روی خود را از سنگ هم سختتر کرده‌اند و نمی‌خواهند توبه کنند.

Lord, thin iyen biholden feith; thou hast smyte hem, and thei maden not sorewe; thou hast al tobroke hem, and thei forsoken to take chastisyng; thei maden her faces hardere than a stoon, and nolden turne ayen.

4 آنگاه گفتم: «از اشخاص فقیر و نادان چه انتظاری می‌شود داشت؟ آنها از راهها و فرمانهای خدا چیزی نمی‌فهمند! پس چطور می‌توانند دستورهای او را اطاعت کنند؟

Forsothe Y seide, In hap thei ben pore men, and foolis, that knowen not the weie of the Lord, and the doom of her God.

5 بنابراین نزد رهبران ایشان رفته و با آنها وارد گفتگو خواهم شد، زیرا آنها راههای خداوند و دستورهای او را می‌دانند.» ولی دیدم که ایشان هم از پیروی خدا برگشته و علیه او سر به طغیان برداشته‌اند.

Therfor Y schal go to the principal men, and Y schal speke to hem; for thei knewen the weie of the Lord, and the doom of her God. And lo! thei han more broke togidere the yok, and han broke boondis.

6 به همین دلیل شیرهای درندهٔ جنگل به جان ایشان خواهند افتاد، گرگهای بیابان به ایشان حمله خواهند کرد و پلنگها در اطراف شهرهایشان کمین خواهند کرد تا هر کس را که بیرون برود، پاره‌پاره کنند؛ زیرا گناهانشان از حد گذشته و بارها از خدا روی برگردانده‌اند.

Therfor a lioun of the wode smoot hem; a wolf at euentid wastide hem, a parde wakynge on the citees of hem. Ech man that goith out of hem, schal be takun; for the trespassyngis of hem ben multiplied, the turnyngis awei of hem ben coumfortid.

7 خداوند می‌گوید: «دیگر چگونه می‌توانم شما را ببخشم؟ چون حتی فرزندانتان مرا ترک گفته‌اند و آنچه را که خدا نیست می‌پرستند. من خوراک به آنها دادم تا سیر بشوند، ولی به جای تشکر، غرق زناکاری شدند و وقت خود را با فاحشه‌ها تلف کردند.

On what thing mai Y be merciful to thee? Thi sones han forsake me, and sweren bi hem that ben not goddis. Y fillide hem, and thei diden auowtrie, and in the hous of an hoore thei diden letcherie.

8 آنها مثل اسبان سیر و سرحالی هستند که برای جفت مادهٔ همسایهٔ خود شیهه می‌کشند.

Thei ben maad horsis, and stalouns, louyeris to wymmen; ech man neiyede to the wijf of his neiybore.

9 آیا برای این کارهای شرم‌آور تنبیه‌شان نکنم؟ آیا نباید از چنین قومی انتقام بگیرم؟

Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, and schal not my soule take veniaunce in siche a folk?

10 «پس ای دشمنان به تاکستان‌هایشان هجوم ببرید و خرابشان کنید! ولی به کلی نابود نکنید. شاخه‌هایشان را قطع کنید، چون از آن خداوند نیستند.

Stye ye on the wallis therof, and distrie ye; but nyle ye make an endyng. Do ye awei the siouns therof, for thei ben not seruauntis of the Lord.

11 خداوند می‌فرماید: مردم اسرائیل و مردم یهودا به من خیانت بزرگی کرده‌اند؛

For whi the hous of Israel and the hous of Juda hath trespassid bi trespassyng ayens me, seith the Lord;

12 آنها دربارۀ من به دروغ گفته‌اند:”او با ما کاری ندارد! هیچ بلایی بر سر ما نخواهد آمد. نه قحطی خواهد شد و نه جنگ.

thei denyeden the Lord, and seiden, He is not, nether yuel schal come on vs; we schulen not se swerd and hungur.

13 انبیا، همگی طبلهای توخالی هستند و کلام خدا در دهان هیچ‌یک از ایشان نیست؛ بلایی که ما را از آن می‌ترسانند، بر سر خودشان خواهد آمد!“»

The profetis spaken ayens the wynd, and noon answer was in hem; therfor these thingis schulen come to hem.

14 از این رو خداوند، خدای لشکرهای آسمان، به من چنین فرمود: «برای این گونه سخنان است که من کلام خود را در دهان تو ای ارمیا، مانند آتش می‌سازم و این قوم را همانند هیزم می‌گردانم تا ایشان را بسوزاند.»

The Lord God of oostis seith these thingis, For ye spaken this word, lo! Y yyue my wordis in thi mouth in to fier, and this puple in to trees, and it schal deuoure hem.

15 خداوند می‌فرماید: «ای بنی‌اسرائیل، من قومی را از دور دست بر ضد تو خواهم فرستاد، قومی نیرومند و قدیمی که زبانشان را نمی‌فهمی.

Lo! thou hous of Israel, seith the Lord, Y schal brynge on you a folk fro fer; a strong folk, an eeld folk, `a folk whos langage thou schalt not knowe, nether schalt vndurstonde what it spekith.

16 کمانداران آنها همه جنگجویانی نیرومندند که بدون ترحم می‌کشند.

The arowe caas therof is as an opyn sepulcre; alle ben stronge men.

17 آنها خرمن تو را غارت کرده، نان فرزندانت را خواهند برد؛ گله‌های گوسفند و رمه‌های گاو، انگور و انجیر تو را به یغما برده، شهرهای حصاردارت را که خیال می‌کنی در امن و امانند، تاراج خواهند کرد.

And it schal ete thi cornes, and it schal deuoure thi breed, thi sones and thi douytris; it schal ete thi flok, and thi droues, it schal ete also thi vyner, and thi fige tre; and it schal al to-breke thi stronge citees bi swerd, in whiche thou hast trist.

18 اما در آن زمان هم باز شما را به کلی از میان نخواهم برد.

Netheles in tho daies, seith the Lord, Y schal not make you in to endyng.

19 «پس اگر از تو ای ارمیا بپرسند: چرا خداوند ما را دچار این بلایا می‌کند؟ در پاسخ بگو: همان‌طور که شما خدا را فراموش کردید و در سرزمین خود خدایان بیگانه را پرستیدید، به همان ترتیب بیگانگان را در سرزمینی که از آن شما نیست خدمت و بردگی خواهید کرد.»

That if ye seien, Whi hath oure Lord God do alle these thingis to vs? thou schalt seie to hem, As ye forsoken me, and serueden an alien god in youre lond, so ye schulen serue alien goddis in a lond not youre.

20 خداوند می‌فرماید که به اهالی یهودا و به قوم اسرائیل چنین اعلام نمایید:

Telle ye this to the hous of Jacob, and make ye herd in Juda, and seie ye,

21 «ای قوم نادان و بی‌فهم که چشم دارید، ولی نمی‌بینید؛ گوش دارید، ولی نمی‌شنوید، این را بشنوید:

Here, thou fonned puple, that hast noon herte; whiche han iyen, and seen not, and eeris, and heren not.

22 آیا نباید به من احترام بگذارید؟ آیا نباید در حضور من، ترس وجودتان را فرا گیرد؟ من که شن را به عنوان قانونی جاودانی، سرحد دریاها قرار دادم؛ اگرچه دریاها خروش برآورند و امواجشان به تلاطم آیند، از این حد نمی‌توانند بگذرند!»

Therfor schulen not ye drede me, seith the Lord, and schulen not ye make sorewe for my face? Whiche haue set grauel a terme, ether ende, to the see, an euerlastynge comaundement, whiche it schal not passe; and the wawis therof schulen be mouyd, and schulen not haue power; and schulen wexe greet, and schulen not passe it.

23 خداوند می‌فرماید: «قوم من دلی سرکش و طغیانگر دارند. ایشان یاغی شده و مرا ترک گفته‌اند، و هیچگاه حرمت مرا نگاه نداشته‌اند، هر چند من باران را در بهار و پاییز به ایشان عطا کردم، و فصل کشت و برداشت محصول را برای آنان تعیین نمودم.

Forsothe an herte vnbileueful and terrynge to wraththe is maad to this puple; thei departiden,

and yeden awei, and thei seiden not in her herte, Drede we oure Lord God, that yiueth to vs reyn tymeful, and lateful in his tyme; that kepith to vs the plente of heruest of the yeer.

25 برای همین است که این برکات نیکو را از ایشان گرفته‌ام؛ گناه، ایشان را از تمام این بخشش‌ها محروم کرده است.

Youre wickidnessis diden awei these thingis, and youre synnes forbediden good fro you.

26 «در میان قوم من اشخاص بدکاری وجود دارند که همچون شکارچیانی که برای شکار کمین می‌گذارند، ایشان هم برای انسان دام می‌گذارند.

For ther ben foundun in my puple wickid men, settynge tresoun, as fouleres settynge snaris and trappis, to take men.

27 همان‌طور که شکارچی قفس خود را پر از پرنده می‌کند، ایشان نیز خانه‌های خود را از نقشه‌های فریبکارانه و غارتگرانه پرکرده‌اند، به همین دلیل است که اکنون قدرتمند و ثروتمند هستند.

As a net, ether a trap, ful of briddis, so the housis of hem ben ful of gile. Therfor thei ben magnefied,

28 خوب می‌خورند و خوب می‌پوشند و رفتار بدشان حد و اندازه‌ای ندارد؛ نه به داد یتیمان می‌رسند و نه حق فقیران را به آنها می‌دهند.

and maad riche, maad fat with ynne, and maad fat with outforth, and thei passiden worst my wordis; thei demyden not a cause of a widewe, thei dressiden not the cause of a fadirles child, and thei demyden not the doom of pore men.

29 بنابراین من ایشان را مجازات خواهم کرد و از چنین قومی انتقام خواهم گرفت!

Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, ether schal not my soule take veniaunce on sich a folk?

30 «اتفاق عجیب و هولناکی در این سرزمین روی داده است:

Wondur and merueilouse thingis ben maad in the lond;

31 انبیا پیامهای دروغین می‌دهند و کاهنان نیز بنا بر گفتهٔ ایشان عمل می‌نمایند، قوم من هم از این وضع راضی‌اند. اما بدانید که چیزی به نابودی شما نمانده است؛ آنگاه چه خواهید کرد؟»

profetis profesieden leesyng, and prestis ioieden with her hondis, and my puple louyde siche thingis. What therfor schal be don in the laste thing therof?
