ارمیا 38

1 اما شفطیا (پسر متان)، جدلیا (پسر فشحور)، یوکل (پسر شلمیا) و فشحور (پسر ملکیا) شنیدند که من به مردم چنین می‌گفتم:

Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,

2 «خداوند می‌فرماید: هر که در شهر بماند با شمشیر و قحطی و بیماری خواهد مرد، ولی هر که تسلیم بابِلی‌ها شود، زنده خواهد ماند.

"Thus says YHWH, 'He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live.'

3 خداوند فرموده که پادشاه بابِل بی‌گمان اورشلیم را تصرف خواهد کرد!»

Thus says YHWH, 'This city shall surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.'"

4 پس آنها با شنیدن این سخنان، نزد پادشاه رفتند و گفتند: «استدعا می‌کنیم که دستور بفرمایی این شخص را اعدام کنند، چون سخنانش روحیهٔ مردم و این چند سرباز باقی مانده را تضعیف می‌کند. او یک خائن است.»

Then the officials said to the king, "Please let this man be put to death; because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man doesn't seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt."

5 صدقیای پادشاه موافقت کرد و گفت: «بسیار خوب، هر طور صلاح می‌دانید، عمل کنید. من نمی‌توانم برخلاف میل شما کاری بکنم!»

Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you."

6 پس آنها مرا از زندان بیرون آوردند و با طناب به داخل چاهی که متعلق به شاهزاده ملکیا بود، پایین فرستادند. آن چاه آب نداشت، ولی ته آن پر از گل و لای بود، و من در گل فرو رفتم.

Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

7 عبدملک حبشی که خواجه سرا و از مقامات مهم دربار بود، شنید که مرا به سیاهچال انداخته‌اند. پس با عجله خود را به دروازهٔ بنیامین رساند، و به پادشاه که در آنجا مردم را به حضور می‌پذیرفت گفت:

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the Benjamin Gate),

Ebedmelech went forth out of the king's house, and spoke to the king, saying,

9 «ای سرور من، افراد تو کار ظالمانه‌ای کرده‌اند که ارمیا را در چاه انداخته‌اند. او در آنجا از گرسنگی خواهد مرد، چون در شهر یک تکه نان هم پیدا نمی‌شود.»

"My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city."

10 پس پادشاه به عبدملک دستور داد که سی نفر را با خود ببرد و مرا پیش از آنکه بمیرم از چاه بیرون بیاورد.

Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies."

11 عبدملک بلافاصله همراه با این افراد به انبار کاخ رفت و از آنجا مقداری پارچه و لباسهای کهنه برداشت. سپس بر سر چاه آمد و آنها را برای من با طناب پایین فرستاد و

So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

12 به من گفت: «این پارچه‌ها و لباسهای کهنه را زیر بغلت بگذار تا وقتی تو را با طناب بالا می‌کشیم، اذیت نشوی!» وقتی من حاضر شدم،

Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Put now these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords." Jeremiah did so.

13 مرا بیرون کشیدند و به زندان قصر پادشاه بازگرداندند تا همان جا بمانم.

So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

14 پس از مدتی، صدقیای پادشاه، به دنبال من فرستاد و مرا در محل دروازهٔ سوم خانۀ خدا به حضور خود آورد و به من گفت: «از تو سؤالی دارم و می‌خواهم حقیقت را هر چه که هست، به من بگویی!»

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of YHWH: and the king said to Jeremiah, "I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me."

15 گفتم: «اگر حقیقت را بگویم، مرا خواهی کشت و اگر تو را راهنمایی و نصیحت کنم، گوش نخواهی کرد.»

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me."

16 پس صدقیای پادشاه در نهان برای من قسم خورد و گفت: «به خداوند زنده که به ما حیات بخشیده، سوگند که تو را نخواهم کشت و به دست کسانی که تشنهٔ خونت هستند، نخواهم سپرد!»

So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, "As YHWH lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life."

17 آنگاه به صدقیا گفتم: «خداوند، خدای لشکرهای آسمان، خدای اسرائیل فرموده که اگر تسلیم پادشاه بابِل شوی، تو و خانواده‌ات زنده خواهید ماند و این شهر هم به آتش کشیده نخواهد شد؛

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "Thus says YHWH, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: 'If you will go forth to the king of Babylon's officers, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house.

18 ولی اگر تسلیم نشوی، بابِلی‌ها این شهر را تصرف کرده، به آتش خواهند کشید و تو نیز گرفتار خواهی شد!»

But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon's officers, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.'"

19 پادشاه گفت: «من می‌ترسم تسلیم شوم، چون ممکن است بابِلی‌ها مرا به دست یهودیان طرفدار خود، بسپارند. آنگاه معلوم نیست چه بلایی بر سرم خواهند آورد.»

Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me."

20 جواب دادم: «یقین بدان که تو را به آنها نخواهند سپرد. استدعا می‌کنم که از کلام خداوند اطاعت نمایی. این به نفع توست، چون کشته نخواهی شد.

But Jeremiah said, "They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the voice of YHWH, in that which I speak to you: so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live.

21 اما اگر نخواهی تسلیم شوی، خداوند در رؤیا به من نشان داد

But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that YHWH has shown me:

22 که تمام زنانی که در کاخ سلطنتی باقی مانده‌اند، به دست فرماندهان سپاه بابِل خواهند افتاد. هنگامی که ایشان از کاخ بیرون برده می‌شوند، خواهند گفت:”دوستان نزدیک پادشاه به او خیانت کرده‌اند و در سختیها او را به حال خود رها نموده‌اند!“

look, all the women who are left in the king of Judah's house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon's officers, and those women shall say, 'Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.'

23 تمام زنان و فرزندانت به دست بابِلی‌ها خواهند افتاد و خود نیز موفق به فرار نخواهی شد و در چنگ پادشاه بابِل گرفتار خواهی گشت و این شهر در آتش خواهد سوخت!»

They shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire."

24 صدقیا گفت: «مواظب باش کسی از گفتگوی ما اطلاع پیدا نکند تا خطری متوجه جانت نباشد!

Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die.

25 هنگامی که درباریان باخبر شوند که با تو صحبت کرده‌ام، تو را به مرگ تهدید خواهند نمود تا از موضوع گفتگوی ما آگاهی یابند؛

But if the officials hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, 'Declare to us now what you have said to the king; do not hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you':

26 ولی به ایشان فقط بگو که به پادشاه التماس کردم که مرا به سیاهچال خانهٔ یوناتان باز نگرداند، چون در آنجا خواهم مرد!»

then you shall tell them, 'I presented my petition before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan's house, to die there.'"

27 همان‌طور هم شد. طولی نکشید که تمام بزرگان، نزد من آمدند و پرسیدند که با پادشاه چه گفتگویی داشته‌ام. من نیز همان‌گونه که پادشاه گفته بود، به آنها جواب دادم. ایشان هم نتوانستند کار دیگری بکنند، زیرا کسی سخنان من و پادشاه را نشنیده بود.

Then all the officials came to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.

28 به این ترتیب تا روزی که اورشلیم به دست بابِلی‌ها افتاد، در زندان قصر پادشاه ماندم.

So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
