ارمیا 20

1 فَشحور کاهن، پسر اِمّیر، که رئیس ناظران خانهٔ خداوند بود، شنید که ارمیا چه نبوّتی کرده است.

Now Pashhur the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of the LORD, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

2 پس به دستور او ارمیای نبی را زدند و او را در کنار دروازهٔ بالایی بنیامین که نزدیک خانهٔ خداوند بود، در کنده قرار دادند.

Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of the LORD.

3 روز بعد، وقتی فشحور ارمیا را آزاد می‌کرد، ارمیا به او گفت: «فشحور، خداوند نام تو را عوض کرده است؛ او نام تو را”ساکن در وحشت“نهاده است.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.

4 خداوند تو و دوستانت را دچار هراس و وحشت خواهد ساخت. آنها را خواهی دید که با شمشیر دشمن کشته می‌شوند. خداوند اهالی یهودا را به پادشاه بابِل تسلیم خواهد کرد و او این قوم را به بابِل به اسارت خواهد برد و یا خواهد کشت.

For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

5 خداوند اجازه خواهد داد که دشمنان، اورشلیم را غارت کنند و تمام ثروت و اشیاء قیمتی شهر و جواهرات سلطنتی یهودا را به بابِل ببرند.

Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

6 و تو ای فشحور، با تمام اعضای خانواده‌ات اسیر شده، به بابِل خواهید رفت و در همان جا خواهید مرد و دفن خواهید شد هم تو و هم تمام دوستانت که برای آنها به دروغ پیشگویی می‌کردی که اوضاع خوب و آرام است!»

And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.

7 خداوندا، تو به من وعده دادی که کمکم کنی، ولی مرا فریفته‌ای؛ اما من مجبورم کلام تو را به ایشان اعلام نمایم، چون از من نیرومندتری! من مسخرهٔ مردم شده‌ام و صبح تا شب همه به من می‌خندند.

O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived: thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughingstock all the day, every one mocketh me.

8 وقتی دهان باز می‌کنم تا چیزی بگویم، فریاد از نهادم برمی‌آید که: «خشونت و ویرانی!» آری، این پیامها از جانب خداوند مرا مایۀ رسوایی و تمسخر ساخته است.

For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and spoil: because the word of the LORD is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

9 از طرف دیگر اگر نخواهم کلام تو را اعلام کنم و از جانب تو سخن بگویم، آنگاه کلام تو در دلم مثل آتش، شعله‌ور می‌شود که تا مغز استخوانهایم را می‌سوزاند و نمی‌توانم آرام بگیرم.

And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in mine heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot [contain].

10 از هر طرف صدای تهدید آنها را می‌شنوم و بدنم می‌لرزد. حتی دوستانم می‌گویند که از دست من شکایت خواهند کرد. آنها منتظرند که بیفتم، و به یکدیگر می‌گویند: «شاید او خودش را به دام بیندازد؛ آن وقت می‌توانیم از او انتقام بگیریم.»

For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, [say] all my familiar friends, they that watch for my halting; peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

11 ولی خداوند همچون یک مرد جنگی، نیرومند و توانا، در کنارم ایستاده است؛ پس دشمنانم به زمین خواهند افتاد و بر من چیره نخواهند شد. ایشان شکست خواهند خورد و این رسوایی همیشه بر آنها خواهد ماند.

But the LORD is with me as a mighty one [and] a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonour which shall never be forgotten.

12 ای خداوند لشکرهای آسمان که مردم را از روی عدل و انصاف می‌آزمایی و از دلها و افکار ایشان آگاهی، بگذار تا انتقام تو را از ایشان ببینم، چون داد خود را نزد تو آورده‌ام.

But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

13 برای خداوند سرود شکرگزاری خواهم خواند و او را تمجید خواهم کرد، زیرا او مظلومان را از دست ظالمان رهایی می‌دهد.

Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.

14 نفرین بر آن روزی که به دنیا آمدم! نفرین بر آن روزی که مادرم مرا زایید!

Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

15 نفرین بر آن کسی که به پدرم مژده داد که او صاحب پسری شده و با این مژده او را شاد ساخت!

Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

16 ای کاش مثل شهرهای قدیم که خداوند بدون ترحم زیر و رویشان کرد، او هم نابود شود و صبح تا شب از صدای جنگ در وحشت باشد،

And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontide;

17 زیرا به هنگام تولدم مرا نکشت! ای کاش در شکم مادرم می‌مردم و رحم مادرم گور من می‌شد!

because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother should have been my grave, and her womb always great.

18 من چرا به دنیا آمدم؟ آیا تنها برای اینکه در تمام زندگی شاهد سختی و اندوه باشم و عمر خود را در شرمساری و رسوایی به سر برم؟

Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
