پیدایش 15

1 بعد از این وقایع، خداوند در رویا به ابرام چنین گفت: «ای ابرام نترس، زیرا من همچون سپر از تو محافظت خواهم کرد و اجری بسیار عظیم به تو خواهم داد.»

After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Fear not, Abram! I am your shield and your very great reward.”

2 اما ابرام در پاسخ گفت: «ای خداوند یهوه، این اجر تو چه فایده‌ای برای من دارد، زیرا که من فرزندی ندارم و این العازار دمشقی، غلام من، صاحب ثروتم خواهد شد.

Abram said, “Lord Yahweh, what will you give me, since I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

3 تو به من نسلی نبخشیده‌ای، پس غلامم وارث من خواهد شد.»

Abram said, “Since you have given me no descendant, see, the steward of my house is my heir.”

4 سپس خداوند به او فرمود: «این غلام وارث تو نخواهد شد، زیرا تو خود پسری خواهی داشت و او وارث همه ثروتت خواهد شد.»

Then, behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir; but rather the one who will come from your own body will be your heir.”

5 خداوند شب هنگام ابرام را به بیرون خانه فرا خواند و به او فرمود: «ستارگان آسمان را بنگر و ببین آیا می‌توانی آنها را بشماری؟ نسل تو نیز چنین بی‌شمار خواهد بود.»

Then he brought him outside, and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So will your descendants be.”

6 آنگاه ابرام به خداوند ایمان آورد و خداوند این را برای او عدالت به شمار آورد.

He believed Yahweh, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

7 خدا به ابرام فرمود: «من همان خداوندی هستم که تو را از شهر اور کلدانیان بیرون آوردم تا این سرزمین را به تو دهم.»

He said to him, “I am Yahweh, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.”

8 اما ابرام در پاسخ گفت: «خداوند یهوه، چگونه مطمئن شوم که تو این سرزمین را به من خواهی داد؟»

He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”

9 خداوند به او فرمود: «یک گوسالهٔ مادهٔ سه ساله، یک بز مادهٔ سه ساله، یک قوچ سه ساله، یک قمری و یک کبوتر برای من بیاور.»

Then he said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a dove, and a young pigeon.”

10 ابرام همۀ اینها را نزد خداوند آورد و هر کدام را از بالا تا پایین دو نصف کرد و پاره‌های هر کدام از آنها را در مقابل هم گذاشت؛ ولی پرنده‌ها را نصف نکرد.

He brought him all these, and cut them in two, and placed each half opposite the other, but he did not divide the birds.

11 و لاشخورهایی را که بر اجساد حیوانات می‌نشستند، دور نمود.

When the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away.

12 هنگام غروب، ابرام به خواب عمیقی فرو رفت. در عالم خواب، تاریکی وحشتناکی او را احاطه کرد.

Then when the sun was going down, Abram fell sound asleep and, behold, a deep and terrifying darkness overwhelmed him.

13 آنگاه خداوند به ابرام فرمود: «یقین بدان که نسل تو مدت چهارصد سال در مملکت بیگانه‌ای بندگی خواهند کرد و مورد ظلم و ستم قرار خواهند گرفت.

Then Yahweh said to Abram, “Know for certain that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years.

14 اما من آن قومی را که ایشان را اسیر سازند، مجازات خواهم نمود و سرانجام نسل تو با اموال زیاد از آنجا بیرون خواهند آمد.

I will judge that nation that they will serve, and afterward they will come out with abundant possessions.

15 (تو نیز در کمال پیری در آرامش خواهی مُرد و دفن شده، به پدرانت خواهی پیوست.)

But you will go to your fathers in peace, and you will be buried in a good old age.

16 آنها بعد از چهار نسل، به این سرزمین باز خواهند گشت، زیرا شرارت قوم اموری که در اینجا زندگی می‌کنند، هنوز به اوج خود نرسیده است.»

In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorites has not yet reached its limit.”

17 وقتی آفتاب غروب کرد و هوا تاریک شد، تنوری پُر دود و مشعلی فروزان از وسط پاره‌های حیوانات گذشت.

When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between the pieces.

18 آن روز خداوند با ابرام عهد بست و فرمود: «من این سرزمین را از مرز مصر تا رود فرات به نسل تو می‌بخشم،

On that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your descendants I hereby give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—

19 یعنی سرزمین اقوام قینی، قِنِزّی، قَدمونی،

the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

20 حیتّی، فِرزّی، رِفایی،

the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaites,

21 اَموری، کَنعانی، جِرجاشی و یِبوسی را.»

the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
