| خداوند به ابرام فرمود: «ولایت، خانه پدری و خویشاوندان خود را رها کن و به سرزمینی که من تو را بدانجا هدایت خواهم نمود برو. | 1 |
And Yahweh said unto Abram: Come thou on thy way, Out of thy land and out of the place of thy birth and out of the house of thy father, —Unto the land that I will show thee;
| من تو را پدر امت بزرگی می‌گردانم. تو را برکت می‌دهم و نامت را بزرگ می‌سازم و تو مایه برکت خواهی بود. | 2 |
That I may make thee into a great nation, And bless thee and make great thy name, And become thou a blessing;
| آنانی را که تو را برکت دهند، برکت خواهم داد، و آنانی را که تو را لعنت کنند، لعنت خواهم کرد. همه مردم دنیا از تو برکت خواهند یافت.» | 3 |
That I may bless them who bless thee, But him who maketh light of thee, will I curse, —So shall be, blessed in thee, all the families of the ground.
| پس ابرام طبق دستور خداوند، روانه شد و لوط نیز همراه او رفت. ابرام هفتاد و پنج ساله بود که حران را ترک گفت. | 4 |
And Abram came on his way, according to that which Yahweh had spoken unto him, and Lot came with him, —now, Abram, was seventy-five years old, when he came forth out of Haran.
| او همسرش سارای و برادرزاده‌اش لوط، غلامان و تمامی دارایی خود را که در حران به دست آورده بود، برداشت و به کنعان کوچ کرد. | 5 |
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, with all the goods that they had gathered and the souls that they had gained in Haran, —and they came forth to go towards the land of Canaan, and came in to the land of Canaan.
| وقتی به کنعان رسیدند، در کنار بلوطِ موره واقع در شکیم خیمه زدند. در آن زمان کنعانی‌ها در آن سرزمین ساکن بودند، | 6 |
And Abram passed along throughout the land, as far as the place of Shechem as far as the Teacher’s Terebinth, the Canaanite being then in the land.
| آنگاه خداوند بر ابرام ظاهر شده، فرمود: «من این سرزمین را به نسل تو خواهم بخشید.» پس ابرام در آنجا مذبحی برای خداوند که بر او ظاهر شده بود، بنا کرد. | 7 |
And Yahweh appeared unto Abram, and said: To thy seed, will I give this land, —And he built there an altar, unto Yahweh who appeared unto him.
| سپس از آنجا کوچ کرده، به سرزمین کوهستانی که از طرف غرب به بیت‌ئیل و از طرف شرق به عای ختم می‌شد، رفت. ابرام در آن محل خیمه زد و مذبحی برای خداوند بنا کرده، او را پرستش نمود. | 8 |
And he moved on from thence towards the hill country, on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, —with Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east, and built there an altar to Yahweh, and called on the name of Yahweh.
| بدین ترتیب ابرام با توقفهای پی‌درپی به سمت نِگب کوچ کرد. | 9 |
Thus Abram brake up, again and again, towards the South.
| ولی در آن سرزمین قحطی شد، پس ابرام به مصر رفت تا در آنجا زندگی کند. | 10 |
And it came to pass that there was a famine, in the land, —so Abram went down towards Egypt, to sojourn there, because grievous, was the famine in the land.
| وقتی به مرز سرزمین مصر نزدیک شدند، ابرام به همسرش گفت: «تو زن زیبایی هستی. | 11 |
And it came to pass when he had come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife: Behold! I beseech thee I know that a woman fair to look on, thou art:
| وقتی مصری‌ها تو را ببینند، خواهند گفت:”این زن اوست. او را بکشیم و زنش را تصاحب کنیم!“ | 12 |
so will it come to pass when the Egyptians behold thee, that they will say, His wife, this! and will slay me while thee, they preserve alive.
| پس به آنها بگو تو خواهر منی، تا به خاطر تو مرا نکشند و با من به مهربانی رفتار کنند.» | 13 |
Say, I beseech thee that my sister, art thou, —to the end it may be well with me for thy sake, so shall my soul be preserved alive because of thee.
| وقتی وارد مصر شدند، مردم آنجا دیدند که سارای زن زیبایی است. | 14 |
And so it was when Abram entered into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman, that fair, was she exceedingly.
| عده‌ای از درباریانِ فرعون، سارای را دیدند و در حضور فرعون از زیبایی او بسیار تعریف کردند. فرعون دستور داد تا او را به قصرش ببرند. | 15 |
And the princes of Pharaoh beheld her, and praised her unto Pharaoh, —so the woman was taken to the house of Pharaoh;
| آنگاه فرعون به خاطر سارای، هدایای فراوانی از قبیل گوسفند و گاو و شتر و الاغ و غلامان و کنیزان به ابرام بخشید. | 16 |
and with Abram, dealt he well for her sake, —so that he came to have flocks and herds and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses and camels.
| اما خداوند، فرعون و تمام افراد قصر او را به بلای سختی مبتلا کرد، زیرا سارای، زن ابرام را به قصر خود برده بود. | 17 |
And Yahweh plagued Pharaoh with great plagues, also his house, —for the matter of Sarai, wife of Abram.
| فرعونْ ابرام را به نزد خود فرا خواند و به او گفت: «این چه کاری بود که با من کردی؟ چرا به من نگفتی که سارای زن توست؟ | 18 |
And Pharaoh called out to Abram, and said, What is this thou hast done to me? Wherefore didst thou not tell me, that she was, thy wife?
| چرا او را خواهر خود معرفی کردی تا او را به زنی بگیرم؟ حال او را بردار و از اینجا برو.» | 19 |
Wherefore saidst thou My sister, she; and so I was about to take her to me, to wife? But now, lo! thy wife take her and go thy way.
| آنگاه فرعون به مأموران خود دستور داد تا ابرام و همسرش را با نوکران و کنیزان و هر آنچه داشتند روانه کنند. | 20 |
And Pharaoh gave command concerning him unto certain men, —and sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.
