1 نگذار هیجان جوانی سبب شود آفرینندهٔ خود را فراموش کنی. او را در روزهای جوانی‌ات به یاد آور، قبل از اینکه روزهای سخت زندگی فرا رسد و تو پیر شده، بگویی: «زندگی دیگر لذت ندارد.»

And remember creator your in [the] days of youth your until that not they will come [the] days of evil and they will arrive years which you will say not [belongs] to me in them pleasure.

2 ‏او را به یاد آور قبل از اینکه ابرهای تیره آسمان زندگی تو را فرا گیرند، و دیگر خورشید و ماه و ستارگان در آن ندرخشند.

Until that not it will become dark the sun and the light and the moon and the stars and they will return the clouds after the rain.

3 او را به یاد آور قبل از اینکه پاهای تو که همچون محافظانِ خانه از بدنت نگهداری می‌کنند، بلرزند، و شانه‌هایت که مانند پهلوانان حمایتت می‌کند خم شوند. او را به یاد آور قبل از اینکه دندانهایت که خوراک را در دهانت آسیاب می‌کنند، کم شوند و دیگر نتوانند بجوند، و چشمانت که مانند کسانی هستند که از پنجره‌ها می‌نگرند، کم سو گردند و نتوانند چیزی را ببینند.

In the day when they will tremble [the] keepers of the house and they will bend themselves [the] people of strength and they will cease the [female] grinders for they have become few and they will grow dim the [women who] look in the windows.

4 او را به یاد آور، قبل از اینکه گوشهایت، همچون درها، بسته شوند و نتوانند سر و صدای کوچه و صدای آسیاب و نغمهٔ موسیقی و آواز پرندگان را بشنوند.

And they will be shut up [the] doors on the street when becomes low [the] sound of the grinding mill for someone may arise to [the] sound of bird and they may be reduced all [the] daughters of song.

5 او را به یاد آور قبل از اینکه از هر بلندی بترسی؛ و از خطر راهها هراسان شوی؛ قبل از اینکه موهایت مانند شکوفۀ درخت بادام سفید شوند، و تو مانند ملخ بی‌جان خود را به سختی روی زمین بکشی، و آتش هیجان جوانی‌ات رو به خاموشی رود. او را به یاد آور قبل از اینکه به خانهٔ جاودانی بروی و مردم برای سوگواری تو جمع شوند.

Also from a high [place] people will be afraid and terrors [are] in the way and it may blossom the almond tree so it may drag itself along the grasshopper and it may fail the caper-berry for [is] going humankind to [the] house of perpetuity its and they will go about (in the street *L(abh)*) the mourners.

6 بله، آفرینندهٔ خویش را به یاد آور، قبل از آنکه رشتهٔ نقره‌ای عمرت پاره شود و جام طلا بشکند، کوزه کنار چشمه خرد شود و چرخ بر سر چاه آب متلاشی گردد،

Until that not (it will be snapped *Q(K)*) [the] cord of silver so it may be crushed [the] bowl of gold so it may be broken [the] jar at the water spring and it will be crushed the [water] wheel to the well.

7 بدن به خاک زمین که از آن سرشته شده برگردد و روح به سوی خداوند که آن را عطا کرده، پرواز کند.

And it will return the dust to the earth like which it was and the spirit it will return to God who he gave it.

8 «معلم» می‌گوید: «بیهودگی است! بیهودگی است! همه چیز بیهودگی است!»

Futility of futilities he said the Teacher everything [is] futility.

9 «معلم» آنچه را که می‌دانست به مردم تعلیم می‌داد، زیرا مرد دانایی بود. او پس از تفکر و تحقیق، مثلهای بسیاری تألیف کرد.

And besides that he was Teacher wise again he taught knowledge the people and he weighed and he searched out he arranged in order proverbs [surely] a multitude.

10 «معلم» کوشش کرد با سخنان دلنشین، حقایق را صادقانه بیان کند.

sought Teacher to find words of delight and [what] was written uprightness [was] words of truth.

11 گفتار حکیمان مانند سُکهای گاورانی دردآور اما مفید هستند. گنجینۀ سخنانشان همچون چوبی هستند که میخ بر سرش دارد و شبان با آن گوسفندان را می‌راند.

[the] words of Wise [people] [are] like goads and [are] like nails firmly fixed masters of collections they are given from a shepherd one.

12 ولی پسرم، از همهٔ اینها گذشته، بدان که نوشتن کتب تمامی ندارد و مطالعهٔ آنها بدن را خسته می‌کند.

And excess more than them O child my be warned to make books many there not [is] an end and study much [is] weariness of flesh.

13 در خاتمه، حاصل کلام را بشنویم: انسان باید از خداوند بترسد و احکام او را نگاه دارد، زیرا تمام وظیفهٔ او همین است.

[the] end of [the] matter Everything it has been heard God fear and commandments his keep for this [is] all humankind.

14 خدا هر عمل خوب یا بد ما را، حتی اگر در خفا نیز انجام شود، داوری خواهد کرد.

For every deed God he will bring in judgment with every hidden thing whether good and or evil.
