تثنیه 3

1 سپس به سوی سرزمین باشان روی آوردیم. عوج، پادشاه باشان لشکر خود را بسیج نموده، در اَدَرعی به ما حمله کرد. ولی خداوند به من فرمود که از او نترسم. خداوند به من گفت: «تمام سرزمین عوج و مردمش در اختیار شما هستند. با ایشان همان کنید که با سیحون، پادشاه اموری‌ها در حشبون کردید.»

Then turned we and went up, the way of Bashan; and Og king of Bashan, came out to meet us, he, and all his people, to give battle at Edrei.

And Yahweh said unto me: Do not fear him, for into thy hand, have I delivered him and all his people and his land, —so then thou shalt do unto him, as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites who was dwelling in Heshbon.

3 بنابراین خداوند، خدای ما عوج پادشاه و همهٔ مردمش را به ما تسلیم نمود و ما همهٔ آنها را کشتیم.

Then did Yahweh our God deliver into our hand, Og also, king of Bashan and all his people, —so we smote him until there was not left remaining to him a survivor.

4 تمامی شصت شهرش یعنی سراسر ناحیهٔ ارجوب باشان را به تصرف خود درآوردیم.

And we captured all his cities, at that time, there was no fortress which we took not from them, —sixty cities all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

5 این شهرها با دیوارهای بلند و دروازه‌های پشتبنددار محافظت می‌شد. علاوه بر این شهرها، تعداد زیادی آبادی بی‌حصار نیز بودند که به تصرف ما درآمدند.

All these, were fortified cities each with a high wall, folding gates and a bar, —besides country towns exceeding many.

6 ما سرزمین باشان را مثل قلمرو سیحون پادشاه واقع در حشبون، کاملاً نابود کردیم و تمام اهالی آن را چه مرد، چه زن و چه کودک، از بین بردیم؛

And we devoted them to destruction, doing unto them as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, —devoting to destruction every city of males, the women, and the little ones.

7 ولی گله‌ها و غنایم جنگی را برای خود نگه‌داشتیم.

But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, made we our prey.

8 پس ما بر تمام سرزمین دو پادشاه اموری واقع در شرق رود اردن، یعنی بر تمامی اراضی از دره ارنون تا کوه حرمون، مسلط شدیم.

Thus did we at that time take the land out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites (which was over the Jordan), —from the ravine of Arnon as far as Mount Hermon.

9 (صیدونی‌ها کوه حرمون را سریون و اموری‌ها آن را سنیر می‌خوانند.)

Sidonians, call Hermon Sirion, —but, the Amorites, call it Senir.

10 ما تمامی شهرهای واقع در آن جلگه و تمامی سرزمین جلعاد و باشان را تا شهرهای سلخه و ادرعی تصرف کردیم.

All the cities of the table-land, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, —unto Salecah, and Edrei, —cities of the kingdom of Og, in Bashan.

11 ناگفته نماند که عوج، پادشاه باشان آخرین بازماندهٔ رفائی‌های غول‌پیکر بود. تختخواب آهنی او که در شهر رَبَت، یکی از شهرهای عمونی‌ها نگهداری می‌شود حدود چهار متر طول و دو متر عرض دارد.

For, only Og, king of Bashan was left remaining of the remnant of the giants, lo! his bedstead, was a bedstead of iron, is not, the same, in Rabbath of the sons of Ammon? nine cubits, the length thereof and four cubits, the breadth thereof, by the fore-arm of a man.

12 در آن موقع، من سرزمین تسخیر شده را به قبیله‌های رئوبین و جاد دادم. به قبیله‌های رئوبین و جاد ناحیهٔ شمال عروعیر را که در کنار رود ارنون است به اضافهٔ نصف کوهستان جلعاد را با شهرهایش دادم،

And this land, took we in possession at that time, —from Aroer which is by the ravine of Arnon, and half the hill-country of Gilead and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites;

13 و به نصف قبیلهٔ منسی باقیماندهٔ سرزمین جلعاد و تمام سرزمین باشان را که قلمرو قبلی عوج پادشاه بود واگذار کردم. (منطقهٔ ارجوب در باشان را سرزمین رفائی‌ها نیز می‌نامند.)

but the remainder of Gilead, and all Bashan the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh, —all the region of the Argob with all Bashan. The same, is called, A land of giants.

14 طایفهٔ یائیر از قبیلهٔ منسی تمامی منطقهٔ ارجوب (باشان) را تا مرزهای جشوری‌ها و معکی‌ها گرفتند و آن سرزمین را به اسم خودشان نامگذاری کرده، آنجا را همچنانکه امروز هم مشهور است حَووت‌یائیر (یعنی «دهستانهای یائیر») نامیدند.

Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the region of Argob, as far as the boundary of the Geshurites, and the Maachathites, —and called them after his own name The Bashan of Havvoth-jair unto this day.

15 بعد جلعاد را به طایفهٔ ماخیر دادم.

And, unto Machir, gave I Gilead;

16 اما به قبیله‌های رئوبین و جاد منطقه‌ای را بخشیدم که از رود یبوق در جلعاد (که سرحد عمونی‌ها بود) شروع می‌شد و تا وسط جلگهٔ رود ارنون در جنوب، امتداد می‌یافت.

And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites, gave I—from Gilead even as far as the ravine of Arnon, the middle of the ravine and boundary, —even as far as the Jabbok ravine, the boundary of the sons of Ammon;

17 مرز غربی ایشان رود اردن بود که از دریاچهٔ جلیل تا دریای مرده و کوه پیسگاه ادامه می‌یافت.

the Waste Plain also and the Jordan and boundary, —from Chinnereth, even as far as the sea of the Waste Plain the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah, on the east.

18 آنگاه من به قبیله‌های رئوبین و جاد و نصف قبیلهٔ منسی یادآوری کردم که اگرچه خداوند آن سرزمین را به ایشان داده است با این حال حق سکونت در آنجا را نخواهند داشت تا زمانی که مردان مسلحشان در پیشاپیش بقیه قبیله‌ها، آنها را به آن سوی رود اردن یعنی به سرزمینی که خدا به ایشان وعده داده، برسانند.

So I commanded you, at that time saying, —Yahweh your God hath given unto you this land to possess it, armed, shall ye pass over before your brethren the sons of Israel all the sons of valour,

19 به ایشان گفتم: «ولی زنان و فرزندانتان می‌توانند اینجا در این شهرهایی که خداوند به شما داده است سکونت کرده، از گله‌هایتان (که می‌دانم تعدادشان زیاد است) مواظبت کنند.

Only, your wives and your little ones and your cattle—I know that ye have much cattle—shall abide in your cities which I have given unto you;

20 شما به برادران خود کمک کنید تا خداوند به آنها نیز پیروزی بدهد. وقتی آنها سرزمینی را که خداوند، خدایتان در آن طرف رود اردن به ایشان داده است تصرف کردند، آنگاه شما می‌توانید به سرزمین خود بازگردید.»

until that Yahweh shall give rest unto your brethren, as well as you, so shall, they too, possess the land which, Yahweh your God, is giving unto them, over the Jordan, —then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given unto you.

21 بعد به یوشع فرمان داده، گفتم: «تو با چشمانت دیدی که یهوه خدایتان با آن دو پادشاه چگونه عمل نمود. او با تمامی ممالک آن طرف رود اردن نیز همین کار را خواهد کرد.

Joshua also, commanded I, at that time saying, —Thine are the eyes, that have seen all that Yahweh your God hath done unto these two kings, thus, will Yahweh do unto all the kingdoms whereunto thou, art passing over:

22 از مردم آنجا نترسید، چون خداوند، خدایتان برای شما خواهد جنگید.»

ye shall not fear them, —for, Yahweh your God, he, it is that is fighting for you.

23 آنگاه از خداوند چنین درخواست نمودم: «ای خداوند، التماس می‌کنم اجازه فرمایی از این رود گذشته، وارد سرزمین موعود بشوم، به سرزمین حاصلخیز آن طرف رود اردن با رشته کوههای آن و به سرزمین لبنان. آرزومندم نتیجه بزرگی و قدرتی را که به ما نشان داده‌ای ببینم. کدام خدا در تمام آسمان و زمین قادر است آنچه را که تو برای ما کرده‌ای بکند؟»

Then sought I Yahweh at that time, for a favour saying:

My Lord Yahweh, thou thyself, hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy firm hand, —as to which, what GOD is there, in the heavens or in the earth, that can do according to thy doings, and according to thy mighty deeds?

25

Let me pass over, I pray thee that I may see the good land that is over the Jordan, —this good mountain, and the Lebanon.

26 ولی خداوند به سبب گناهان شما بر من غضبناک بود و به من اجازهٔ عبور نداد. او فرمود: «دیگر از این موضوع سخنی بر زبان نیاور.

But Yahweh had been provoked with me for your sakes, and hearkened not unto me, —and Yahweh said unto me, Enough for thee! do not add a word unto me further in this matter.

27 به بالای کوه پیسگاه برو. از آنجا می‌توانی به هر سو نظر اندازی و سرزمین موعود را از دور ببینی؛ ولی از رود اردن عبور نخواهی کرد.

Ascend the top of the Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes—westward, and northward and southward and eastward—and see with thine own eyes, —for thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.

28 یوشع را به جانشینی خود بگمار و او را تقویت و تشویق کن، زیرا او قوم را برای فتح سرزمینی که تو از قلهٔ کوه خواهی دید، به آن طرف رودخانه هدایت خواهد کرد.»

But command thou Joshua and confirm him and embolden him, —for, he, shall pass over before this people, and, he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

29 بنابراین ما در درهٔ نزدیک بیت‌فغور ماندیم.

So we abode in the valley, over against Beth-peor.
