عاموس 8

1 آنگاه خداوند، در رؤیا یک سبد پر از میوه‌های رسیده به من نشان داد.

These things the Lord has revealed to me. And behold, a hook to draw down fruit.

2 او پرسید: «عاموس، چه می‌بینی؟» جواب دادم: «یک سبد پر از میوه‌های رسیده.» خداوند فرمود: «این میوه‌ها نمونه‌ای از قوم من اسرائیل است که برای مجازات آماده شده‌اند. دیگر مجازات ایشان را به تعویق نخواهم انداخت.

And he said, “What do you see, Amos?” And I said, “A hook to draw down fruit.” And the Lord said to me, “The end has come for my people Israel. I will no longer pass through them.”

3 در آن روز سرودهایی که مردم در خانهٔ خدا می‌خوانند به گریه و زاری تبدیل خواهد شد. اجساد مردم در همه جا پراکنده خواهند شد و آنها را بی‌سر و صدا جمع کرده، به خارج شهر خواهند برد. من خداوند یهوه، چنین می‌گویم.»

And the hinges of the temple will creak in that day, says the Lord God. Many will die. Silence will be thrown away in all places.

4 گوش کنید! ای کسانی که بر فقرا ظلم می‌کنید و نیازمندان را پایمال می‌نمایید.

Hear this, you who crush the poor and who make those in need of land to do without.

5 ای کسانی که آرزو دارید روز شَبّات و جشنهای مذهبی هر چه زودتر تمام شوند تا دوباره به کسب خود بپردازید و با ترازوهای دستکاری شده و سنگهای سبکتر، مشتریان خود را فریب داده، پول بیشتری از ایشان بگیرید.

You say, “When will the first day of the month be over, so we can sell our wares, and the Sabbath, so we can open the grain: in order that we may decrease the measure, and increase the price, and substitute deceitful scales,

6 ای کسانی که فقرا را در مقابل یک سکه نقره و یا یک جفت کفش به بردگی می‌گیرید و پس ماندهٔ گندم خود را به آنها می‌فروشید.

in order that we may possess the destitute with money, and the poor for a pair of shoes, and may sell even the refuse of the grain?”

7 خداوند که مایهٔ سربلندی اسرائیل است، قسم خورده می‌فرماید: «من این کارهای شرورانۀ شما را فراموش نخواهم کرد.

The Lord has sworn by the arrogance of Jacob: I will not forget, even to the end, all their works.

8 پس سرزمین اسرائیل به لرزه خواهد افتاد و تمام قوم ماتم خواهند گرفت. سرزمین اسرائیل مانند رود نیل مصر در وقت سیلاب، متلاطم شده بالا خواهد آمد و دوباره فرو خواهد نشست.

Will not the earth shudder over this, and all its inhabitants mourn, and all rise up like a river, and be cast out, and flow away like the river of Egypt?

9 در آن زمان، کاری خواهم کرد که آفتاب هنگام ظهر، غروب کند و زمین در روز روشن، تاریک شود.

And it will be in that day, says the Lord God, that the sun will decline at midday, and I will cause the earth to become dark on the day of light.

10 جشنهای شما را به مجالس عزا و ترانه‌های شاد شما را به مرثیه مبدل خواهم کرد. آنگاه لباس عزا پوشیده سرهایتان را به علامت سوگواری خواهید تراشید، چنانکه گویی یگانه پسرتان مرده است. آن روز، روز بسیار تلخی خواهد بود.»

And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your hymns into lamentation. And I will put sackcloth over every one of your backs, and baldness on every head. And I will begin it like the mourning for an only-begotten son, and complete it like a bitter day.

11 خداوند می‌فرماید: «روزی خواهد رسید که من قحطی شدیدی در این سرزمین پدید خواهم آورد. این قحطی، قحطی نان و آب نخواهد بود، بلکه قحطی کلام خدا.

Behold, the days pass, says the Lord, and I will send a famine on the earth: not a famine of bread, nor of thirst for water, but for hearing the word of the Lord.

12 مردم از شرق تا غرب و از شمال تا جنوب دنبال کلام خدا خواهند دوید ولی موفق به پیدا کردن آن نخواهند شد.

And they will move even from sea to sea, and from the North all the way to the East. They will wander around seeking the word of the Lord, and they will not find it.

13 در آن روز حتی دختران زیبا و مردان جوان نیز از تشنگی ضعف خواهند کرد

In that day, beautiful virgins, and young men, will fail because of thirst.

14 و آنانی که به بتهای شرم‌آور سامره و بتهای دان و بئرشبع سوگند یاد می‌کنند خواهند افتاد و دیگر هرگز بلند نخواهند شد.»

They swear by the offense of Samaria, and they say, “As your God lives, Dan,” and “The way of Beer-sheba lives.” And they will fall, and they will not rise up any more.
