| آنگاه کاهن اعظم از استیفان پرسید: «آیا این تهمت‌ها صِحّت دارد؟» | 1 |
And the high priests said; Are these things so?
| استیفان گفت: «ای برادران و پدران گوش دهید. خدای پرشکوه و جلال، در بین‌النهرین بر جدّ ما ابراهیم ظاهر شد، پیش از آنکه او به حران کوچ کند. | 2 |
And he said, Men, brothers and fathers, hear ye; The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he migrated into Haran, and He said to him;
| خدا به او فرمود: ولایت، خانه پدری و خویشاوندان خود را رها کن و به سرزمینی که من تو را بدانجا هدایت خواهم نمود، برو. | 3 |
Come out from thy country and from thy kindred, and come hither into the land which I will show unto thee.
| «پس ابراهیم از سرزمین کلدانیان بیرون آمد و به حران رفت و تا مرگ پدرش در آنجا ماند. سپس خدا او را به اینجا آورد، به سرزمینی که شما اکنون در آن زندگی می‌کنید. | 4 |
And after his father died he migrated himself thence into this country in which you now dwell,
| ولی در آن زمان، حتی یک وجب از این زمین را به او نداد. اما به او قول داد که سرانجام تمام این سرزمین از آن او و نسل او خواهد شد، و این در حالی بود که ابراهیم هنوز صاحب فرزندی نشده بود. | 5 |
and God gave him no inheritance in it, not the step of his foot; and he promised to give it to him, and his seed after him, for an inheritance, there being no child to him.
| از طرف دیگر، خدا به ابراهیم فرمود:”نسل تو مدت چهارصد سال در مملکت بیگانه‌ای بندگی خواهند کرد و مورد ظلم و ستم قرار خواهند گرفت. | 6 |
And thus God spoke, that his seed shall sojourn in a strange land, and they will enslave it and oppress it four hundred years.
| و همچنین فرمود: من آن قومی را که ایشان را اسیر سازند، مجازات خواهم نمود و بعد قوم خود را به این سرزمین باز خواهم آورد تا مرا عبادت کنند.“ | 7 |
And the nation whom they shall serve I will judge, says God, and after these things they shall come out and serve me in this place.
| «در آن هنگام، خدا آیین ختنه را نیز به ابراهیم داد تا نشان عهد و پیمان بین نسل او و خدا باشد. پس اسحاق، پسر ابراهیم، وقتی هشت روزه بود، ختنه شد. اسحاق پدر یعقوب بود و یعقوب صاحب دوازده پسر شد که هر کدام سرسلسلهٔ یکی از قبیله‌های بنی‌اسرائیل شدند. | 8 |
And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.
| فرزندان یعقوب به یوسف حسد بردند و او را فروختند تا در مصر غلام شود. ولی خدا با یوسف بود، | 9 |
And the patriarchs, envying Joseph, sold him into Egypt:
| و او را از تمام غمها و رنجهایش آزاد کرد و مورد لطف فرعون، پادشاه مصر قرار داد. خدا به یوسف حکمت فوق‌العاده‌ای عطا کرد، تا آنجا که فرعون او را نخست‌وزیر مصر و وزیر دربار خود ساخت. | 10 |
and God was with him, and delivered him out of all his troubles, and gave him grace and wisdom before Pharaoh the king of Egypt; and he placed him governor over Egypt and all his house.
| «آنگاه قحطی و مصیبتی عظیم در مصر و کنعان پدید آمد به حدی که اجداد ما چیزی برای خوردن نداشتند. | 11 |
And the famine came into all the land and Canaan, and great distress: and our fathers found no sustenance.
| وقتی یعقوب شنید که در مصر هنوز غله پیدا می‌شود، پسران خود را فرستاد تا غله بخرند. | 12 |
And Jacob hearing that there is food in Egypt, sent away our fathers first.
| بار دوم که به مصر رفتند، یوسف خود را به برادرانش شناسانید، سپس ایشان را به حضور فرعون معرفی کرد. | 13 |
And the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren, and his race became manifest to Pharaoh.
| پس از آن، یوسف پدر خود یعقوب و خانوادهٔ برادرانش را به مصر آورد که جمعاً هفتاد و پنج نفر بودند. | 14 |
And Joseph sending, called to him Jacob his father, and all the family, seventy-five souls.
| به این ترتیب، یعقوب و همهٔ پسرانش به مصر رفتند و عاقبت در همان جا نیز فوت شدند، | 15 |
And Jacob went down into Egypt, and he and our fathers died there.
| و جنازه‌های ایشان را به شکیم بردند و در آرامگاهی که ابراهیم از پسران حمور، پدر شکیم، خریده بود، به خاک سپردند. | 16 |
And they were carried over into Shechem, and buried in a tomb which Abraham purchased from the sons of Emmor in Shechem with a sum of money.
| «کم‌کم زمان تحقق وعدهٔ خدا به ابراهیم در مورد آزادی فرزندان او از مصر نزدیک می‌شد و تعداد ایشان نیز در مصر به سرعت فزونی می‌یافت. | 17 |
When the time of the promise which God made with Abraham drew nigh, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,
| سپس، پادشاهی در مصر روی کار آمد که یوسف را نمی‌شناخت و از خدمات او خبر نداشت. | 18 |
until another king arose over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
| این پادشاه دشمن قوم ما بود و والدین عبرانی را مجبور می‌کرد نوزادان خود را در بیابان به حال خود بگذارند تا بمیرند. | 19 |
He dealing fraudulently with our race, afflicted our fathers, that they should expose their infants, so that they should not live.
| «در همان زمان بود که موسی به دنیا آمد. او طفلی بسیار زیبا بود. پدر و مادرش سه ماه او را در خانه پنهان کردند. | 20 |
During which time Moses was born, and was beautiful to God; who was kept three months in the house of his father.
| در آخر وقتی مجبور شدند او را رها کنند، دختر فرعون، پادشاه مصر، او را یافت و به فرزندی پذیرفت. | 21 |
And he being exposed, the daughter of Pharaoh took him, and adopted him for a son to herself.
| موسی تمام علوم و حکمت مصر را فرا گرفت تا جایی که شاهزاده‌ای بانفوذ و سخنوری برجسته شد. | 22 |
And Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians; and was mighty in his words and works.
| «وقتی موسی چهل ساله شد، روزی به فکرش رسید که دیداری از برادران اسرائیلی خود به عمل آورد. | 23 |
And when the time of the fortieth year was fulfilled to him, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.
| در این بازدید یک مصری را دید که به یک اسرائیلی ظلم می‌کرد. پس موسی به حمایت او رفت و آن مصری را کشت. | 24 |
And seeing a certain one suffering affliction, he interposed, and executed vengeance in behalf of the oppressed one, slaying the Egyptian.
| موسی تصور می‌کرد برادران اسرائیلی‌اش متوجه شده‌اند که خدا او را به کمک ایشان فرستاده است. ولی ایشان به هیچ وجه به این موضوع پی نبرده بودند. | 25 |
And he supposed that his brethren would understand that God through his hand is giving them salvation: but they did not recognize it.
| «روز بعد، باز به دیدن آنان رفت. این بار دید که دو اسرائیلی با هم دعوا می‌کنند. پس سعی کرد ایشان را با هم آشتی دهد و گفت: عزیزان، شما با هم برادر هستید و نباید اینچنین با یکدیگر دعوا کنید! این کار اشتباهی است! | 26 |
On the following day, he appeared to them fighting, and undertook to reduce them to peace, saying, Men, you are brethren; therefore do not injure one another.
| «ولی شخصی که مقصر بود به موسی گفت: چه کسی تو را حاکم و داور ما ساخته است؟ | 27 |
And the one injuring his neighbor thrust him away, saying, Who appointeth you a leader and a judge over us?
| آیا می‌خواهی مرا هم بکشی، همان‌طور که دیروز آن مصری را کشتی؟ | 28 |
whether do you wish to kill me, in the manner in which you slew the Egyptian yesterday?
| «وقتی موسی این را شنید، ترسید و به سرزمین مِدیان گریخت و در آنجا همسری اختیار کرد و صاحب دو پسر شد. | 29 |
And at this word Moses fled, and became a sojourner in the land of Midia, where he begat two sons.
| «چهل سال بعد، روزی در بیابان نزدیک کوه سینا، فرشته‌ای در بوته‌ای شعله‌ور به او ظاهر شد. | 30 |
And forty years having passed away, an angel appeared to him in the desert of Mount Sinai in the flame of fire of the bramble bush.
| موسی با دیدن این منظره، تعجب کرد و دوید تا آن را از نزدیک ببیند. اما ناگهان صدای خداوند به گوش او رسید که می‌گفت: | 31 |
And Moses, seeing the sight, was astonished: and he coming nigh to investigate, the voice of the Lord came:
| من هستم خدای اجداد تو، خدای ابراهیم، خدای اسحاق، و خدای یعقوب. «موسی از ترس بر خود لرزید و دیگر جرأت نکرد به بوته نگاه کند. | 32 |
I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembling, did not dare to investigate.
| خداوند به او فرمود: کفشهایت را درآور، زیرا جایی که بر آن ایستاده‌ای، زمین مقدّس است. | 33 |
And the Lord said to him, Loose the sandal of thy feet: for the place on which thou standest is holy ground.
| من غم و اندوه قوم خود را در مصر دیده‌ام و ناله‌های ایشان را شنیده‌ام و آمده‌ام تا نجاتشان دهم. پس بیا تا تو را به مصر بفرستم. | 34 |
Seeing, I have seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and heard their groaning, and have come down to deliver them. And come now, I will send thee into Egypt.
| «به این ترتیب، خدا همان کسی را به مصر بازگرداند که قوم اسرائیل او را رد کرده و به او گفته بودند: چه کسی تو را حاکم و داور ما ساخته است؟ خدا توسط فرشته‌ای که در بوتهٔ آتش ظاهر شد موسی را فرستاد تا هم حاکم ایشان باشد و هم نجا‌ت‌دهندۀ ایشان. | 35 |
And this Moses whom they denied, saying, Who hath established thee a ruler and a judge? him hath God sent a ruler and deliverer, with the hand of an angel having appeared unto him in a bush.
| موسی با معجزات بسیار قوم اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون آورد، و از دریای سرخ عبور داد و چهل سال ایشان را در بیابان هدایت کرد. | 36 |
He led them out, doing wonders and miracles in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
| «همین موسی به قوم اسرائیل گفت: خدا از میان برادران شما، پیامبری مانند من برایتان خواهد فرستاد. | 37 |
This Moses is the one having said to the sons of Israel, A prophet will God raise up to you of your brethren, like unto me.
| «موسی در بیابان با نیاکان ما بود، یعنی با مجمعِ قوم خدا. او واسطه‌ای بود بین قوم اسرائیل و آن فرشته‌ای که کلمات حیات‌بخش را در کوه سینا به او داد تا آنها را به ما برساند. | 38 |
And this is the one being in the church in the wilderness with the angel speaking to him in Mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received the living oracles to give unto us;
| ولی اجداد ما نخواستند مطیع موسی شوند. آنها او را رد کردند و خواستند که به مصر بازگردند. | 39 |
to whom our fathers were not willing to be obedient, but thrust him away, and turned back in their hearts towards Egypt,
| ایشان به هارون گفتند: برای ما بتهایی بساز تا خدایان ما باشند و ما را به مصر بازگردانند، زیرا نمی‌دانیم بر سر این موسی که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد، چه آمده است! | 40 |
saying to Aaron, Make us gods who shall go before us: for this Moses, who led us out from the land of Egypt, we know not what happened to him.
| «پس بُتی به شکل گوساله ساختند و برایش قربانی کردند و به افتخار آنچه ساخته بودند، جشن گرفتند. | 41 |
And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
| از این رو خدا از آنان بیزار شد و ایشان را به حال خود گذاشت تا آفتاب، ماه و ستارگان را عبادت کنند! در کتاب انبیا، خداوند می‌فرماید: ای قوم اسرائیل، در آن چهل سالی که در بیابان سرگردان بودید، آیا برای من قربانی و هدایا آوردید؟ | 42 |
And God turned away, and gave them up to serve the host of the heaven; as has been written in the book of the prophets: Slain victims and sacrifices you have not brought unto me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel.
| نه، عشق و علاقهٔ واقعی شما به بتهایتان بود، به پرستشگاهِ بُتِ مولِک، ستارۀ بت رِفان، و تمام آن بتهایی که ساخته بودید تا آنها را بپرستید. پس من نیز شما را به آن سوی بابِل تبعید خواهم کرد. | 43 |
And ye took up the shrine of Moloch, and the star of the god Remphan, images which you made to worship them; and I will transport you beyond Babylon.
| «اجداد ما در بیابان خیمهٔ عبادت را حمل می‌کردند. این خیمه درست مطابق آن نقشه‌ای ساخته شده بود که خدا به موسی نشان داده بود. | 44 |
And the tabernacle of testimony was with our fathers in the wilderness, as the one speaking to Moses commanded him to make it according to the example he had seen;
| سالها بعد، وقتی یوشع در سرزمین موعود، با اقوام بت‌پرست می‌جنگید، این خیمه را به آنجا آورد. قوم اسرائیل نیز تا زمان داوود پادشاه، در آن عبادت می‌کردند. | 45 |
which our fathers receiving, brought in along with Joshua in the dispossession of the nations, whom God drove out, from the face of our fathers, until the days of David,
| «خدا نسبت به داوود عنایت خاصی داشت. داوود نیز از خداوند درخواست کرد تا این افتخار نصیبش گردد که برای خدای یعقوب محلی برای سکونت بنا کند. | 46 |
who found favor before God, and asked that he should build a tabernacle for the house of Jacob.
| ولی در واقع سلیمان بود که آن را ساخت، همان معبد را. | 47 |
But Solomon built a house for him.
| اما واقعیت این است که خدای متعال در معابدی که به دست انسان ساخته شده باشد، منزل نمی‌کند، چنانکه خودش از زبان نبی فرموده: | 48 |
But the Most High dwelleth not in houses built with hands, as the prophet says,
| آسمان، تخت سلطنت من است، و زمین کرسی زیر پایم. آیا می‌توانید معبدی اینچنین برایم بسازید؟ آیا می‌توانید چنین مکانی برای آسودن برایم بنا کنید؟ | 49 |
Heaven is my throne, and earth the footstool of my feet: What house will you build for me? says the Lord; Or what shall be the place of my rest?
| مگر دست من تمام این هستی را نیافریده است؟ | 50 |
Hath not my hand made all of these things?
| «ای خدانشناسان، ای یاغیان! تا کی می‌خواهید مانند اجدادتان با روح‌القدس مقاومت کنید؟ | 51 |
Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you do always resist the Holy Ghost; as your fathers did, so do ye.
| کدام پیامبری است که نیاکان شما او را شکنجه و آزار نداده باشند، پیامبرانی که آمدن آن مرد عادل، یعنی مسیح، را پیشگویی می‌کردند؟ و سرانجام مسیح را نیز گرفتید و کشتید! | 52 |
Which one of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? and they slew those proclaiming concerning the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you became:
| بله، شما عمداً با خدا و احکام او مخالفت می‌کنید، گرچه این احکام را از فرشتگان دریافت کردید.» | 53 |
who received the law in the administrations of angels, and did not keep it.
| سران قوم یهود از شنیدن این سخنان سخت برآشفتند و به شدت خشمگین شدند. | 54 |
And hearing these words, they were cut through their hearts and gnashed their teeth at him.
| ولی استیفان پر از روح‌القدس به سوی آسمان خیره شد و جلال خدا را دید و همچنین عیسی را که به دست راست خدا ایستاده بود. | 55 |
But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, and looking up to heaven, saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
| پس به ایشان گفت: «نگاه کنید! من آسمان را می‌بینم که گشوده شده و مسیح را می‌بینم که به دست راست خدا ایستاده است!» | 56 |
and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
| حاضرین که دیگر طاقت شنیدن این سخنان را نداشتند، گوشهای خود را گرفته، فریادی بلند سر دادند و بر سر استیفان ریختند، | 57 |
And crying out with a loud voice, they stopped their ears, and unanimously rushed on him,
| و کشان‌کشان او را از شهر بیرون بردند تا سنگسارش کنند. شاهدان و متهم‌کنندگان او، عباهای خود را از تن درآوردند و پیش پای جوانی سولُس نام گذاشتند. | 58 |
and casting him out from the city, they began to stone him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man, called Saul:
| در همان حالی که استیفان را سنگسار می‌کردند، او چنین دعا کرد: «ای عیسای خداوند، روح مرا بپذیر!» | 59 |
and continued to stone Stephen, calling upon the Lord, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
| سپس روی زانوها افتاد و با صدای بلند گفت: «خداوندا، این گناه را به حساب آنان مگذار!» بعد از این دعا، جان سپرد. | 60 |
And putting down his knees, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, do not impute this sin to them. And saying this, he fell asleep.
