اعمال رسولان 6

1 با افزایش تعداد ایمانداران، شکایتها در میان ایشان به وجود آمد. کسانی که یونانی زبان بودند، گله داشتند که میان بیوه‌زنان ایشان و بیوه‌زنان عبری زبان، تبعیض قائل می‌شوند و به اینان به اندازهٔ آنان خوراک نمی‌دهند.

In those dayes as the nombre of the disciples grewe ther arose a grudge amonge the Grekes agaynst the Ebrues be cause their wyddowes were despysed in the dayly mynystracion.

2 پس، آن دوازده رسول تمام ایمانداران را جمع کردند و گفتند: «ما باید وقت خود را صرف رساندن پیام خدا به مردم کنیم، نه صرف رساندن خوراک به این و آن.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples to gether and sayde: it is not mete that we shuld leave the worde of God and serve at the tables.

3 پس برادران عزیز، از میان خود هفت نفر نیک‌نام که پر از روح‌القدس و حکمت باشند انتخاب کنید تا آنان را مسئول این کار کنیم.

Wherfore brethren loke ye out amoge you seven men of honest reporte and full of the holy goost and wysdome which we maye apoynte to this nedfull busynes.

4 ما نیز وقت خود را صرف دعا، موعظه و تعلیم خواهیم نمود.»

But we will geve oure selves cotinually to prayer and to the ministracion of ye worde.

5 این پیشنهاد را همه پسندیدند و این اشخاص را انتخاب کردند: استیفان (مردی با ایمانی قوی و پر از روح‌القدس)، فیلیپ، پروخروس، نیکانور، تیمون، پرمیناس و نیکلائوس اهل انطاکیه. نیکلائوس یک غیریهودی بود که اول یهودی و بعد مسیحی شده بود.

And the sayinge pleased the whoale multitude. And they chose Steven a man full of fayth and of the holy goost and Philip and Prochorus and Nichanor and Timon and Permenas and Nicholas a converte of Antioche.

6 این هفت نفر را به رسولان معرفی کردند و رسولان نیز برای ایشان دعا کرده، دست بر سرشان گذاشتند و برکتشان دادند.

Which they set before the Apostles and they prayed and layde their hondes on them.

7 پس پیام خدا همچنان در همه جا اعلام می‌شد و تعداد ایمانداران در شهر اورشلیم افزایش می‌یافت. حتی بسیاری از کاهنان یهودی نیز پیرو عیسی شدند.

And the worde of God encreased and the noubre of the disciples multiplied in Ierusalem greatly and a great company of the prestes were obedient to the faythe.

8 استیفان نیز که مردی بسیار باایمان و پر از قدرت روح‌القدس بود، در میان مردم معجزات شگفت‌انگیز و نشانه‌های عظیم به‌عمل می‌آورد.

And Steven full of faythe and power dyd great wondres and myracles amoge ye people.

9 اما یک روز چند یهودی از کنیسه‌ای مشهور به «آزاد مردان» برای بحث و مجادله نزد استیفان آمدند. این عده از قیروان، اسکندریهٔ مصر، قیلیقیه و آسیا آمده بودند.

Then ther arose certayne of the synagoge which are called Lybertines and Syrenites and of Alexandria and of Cilicia and Asia and disputed with Steven.

10 ولی کسی نمی‌توانست در برابر حکمت و روحی که استیفان با آن سخن می‌گفت، مقاومت کند.

And they coulde not resist the wysdome and the sprete with which he spake.

11 پس آنان به چند نفر رشوه دادند تا بگویند ما شنیدیم که استیفان به موسی و به خدا کفر می‌گفت.

Then sent they in men which sayd: we have hearde him speake blasphemous wordes agaynst Moses and agaynst God.

12 این تهمت به شدت مردم و مشایخ و علمای دین را بر ضد استیفان تحریک کرد. پس سران قوم یهود او را گرفتند و برای محاکمه به مجلس شورا بردند.

And they moved ye people and the elders and the scribes: and came apon him and caught him and brought him to the counsell

13 شاهدان دروغین بر ضد استیفان شهادت داده، می‌گفتند که او مرتب به معبد و تورات موسی بد می‌گوید.

and brought forth falce witnesses which sayde. This ma ceasith not to speake blasphemous wordes agaynst this holy place and the lawe:

14 می‌گفتند: «ما با گوش خودمان شنیدیم که می‌گفت عیسای ناصری معبد را خراب خواهد کرد و تمام احکام موسی را باطل خواهد ساخت!»

for we hearde him saye: this Iesus of Nazareth shall destroye this place and shall chaunge the ordinaunces which Moses gave vs.

15 در این لحظه، همۀ آنانی که در شورا نشسته بودند، به استیفان خیره شده بودند و دیدند که صورتش همچون صورت فرشته است!

And all that sate in ye counsell loked stedfastly on him and sawe his face as it had bene the face of an angell.
