| زمان آن رسیده بود که خداوند ایلیا را در گردباد به آسمان ببرد. ایلیا وقتی با الیشع از شهر جلجال خارج می‌شد، به او گفت: «تو در اینجا بمان، چون خداوند به من فرموده است به بیت‌ئیل بروم.» ولی الیشع جواب داد: «به خداوند زنده و به جان تو قسم، من از تو جدا نمی‌شوم!» پس با هم به بیت‌ئیل رفتند. | 1 |
And it came to pass when Jehovah would take up Elijah into the heavens by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

And Elijah said to Elisha, Abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! So they went down to Bethel.
| گروهی از انبیا که در بیت‌ئیل بودند به استقبال آنان آمده، به الیشع گفتند: «آیا می‌دانی که امروز خداوند قصد دارد مولای تو را از تو بگیرد؟» الیشع جواب داد: «بله، می‌دانم. ساکت باشید!» | 3 |
And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Dost thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from over thy head to-day? And he said, I also know it: be silent!
| سپس ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «همین‌جا بمان، چون خداوند به من فرموده است به شهر اریحا بروم.» اما الیشع باز جواب داد: «به خداوند زنده و به جان تو قسم، من از تو جدا نمی‌شوم.» پس با هم به اریحا رفتند. | 4 |
And Elijah said to him, Elisha, abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! And they came to Jericho.
| در آنجا هم گروه انبیای اریحا نزد الیشع آمده، از او پرسیدند: «آیا خبر داری که خداوند می‌خواهد امروز مولایت را از تو بگیرد؟» او گفت: «بله، می‌دانم. ساکت باشید!» | 5 |
And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, Dost thou know that Jehovah will take away thy master from over thy head to-day? And he said, I also know it: be silent!
| آنگاه ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «در اینجا بمان، زیرا خداوند فرموده است به طرف رود اردن بروم.» اما الیشع مثل دفعات پیش جواب داد: «به خداوند زنده و به جان تو قسم، من از تو جدا نمی‌شوم.» پس با هم رفتند و در کنار رود اردن ایستادند، در حالی که پنجاه نفر از گروه انبیا از دور ایشان را تماشا می‌کردند. | 6 |
And Elijah said to him, Abide here, I pray thee; for Jehovah has sent me to the Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee! And they two went on.

And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite afar off; and they two stood by the Jordan.
| آنگاه ایلیا ردای خود را پیچیده آن را به آب زد. آب رودخانه دو قسمت شد و ایلیا و الیشع از راه خشک وسط آن عبور کردند. | 8 |
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither; and they two went over on dry ground.
| وقتی به آن سوی رود اردن رسیدند، ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «پیش از آنکه به آسمان بروم بگو چه می‌خواهی تا برایت انجام دهم.» الیشع جواب داد: «دو برابر قدرت روح خود را به من بده!» | 9 |
And it came to pass when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
| ایلیا گفت: «چیز دشواری خواستی. اگر وقتی به آسمان می‌روم مرا ببینی، آنگاه آنچه خواستی به تو داده خواهد شد؛ در غیر این صورت خواسته‌ات برآورده نخواهد شد.» | 10 |
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so to thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].
| در حالی که آن دو با هم قدم می‌زدند و صحبت می‌کردند، ناگهان ارابه‌ای آتشین که اسبان آتشین آن را می‌کشیدند، ظاهر شد و آن دو را از هم جدا کرد و ایلیا در گردباد به آسمان بالا رفت. | 11 |
And it came to pass as they went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire; and they parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into the heavens.
| الیشع این را دید و فریاد زد: «ای پدرم! ای پدرم! ارابه‌ها و سواران اسرائیل را می‌بینم!» پس از آن الیشع دیگر او را ندید. سپس الیشع ردای خود را پاره کرد | 12 |
And Elisha saw [it], and he cried, My father, my father! the chariot of Israel and the horsemen thereof! And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own garments and rent them in two pieces.
| و ردای ایلیا را که افتاده بود، برداشت و به کنار رود اردن بازگشت و آن را به آب زد و با صدای بلند گفت: «کجاست خداوند، خدای ایلیا؟» آب دو قسمت شد و الیشع از راه خشک وسط آن عبور کرد. | 13 |
And he took up the mantle of Elijah which fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan;

and he took the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah? He also smote the waters, and they parted hither and thither, and Elisha went over.
| گروه انبیای اریحا چون این واقعه را دیدند گفتند: «قدرت روح ایلیا بر الیشع قرار گرفته است!» سپس به استقبالش رفتند و او را تعظیم کرده، گفتند: | 15 |
And the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho on the opposite side saw him, and they said, The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him,
| «اجازه بفرمایید پنجاه نفر از مردان قوی خود را به جستجوی مولای شما بفرستیم، شاید روح خداوند او را به کوهی یا دره‌ای برده باشد.» الیشع گفت: «نه، آنها را نفرستید.» | 16 |
and said to him, Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty valiant men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master, lest perhaps the Spirit of Jehovah have taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some ravine. And he said, Ye shall not send.
| ولی آنها آنقدر اصرار کردند که سرانجام الیشع با رفتن ایشان موافقت نمود. پس آن پنجاه نفر رفتند و سه روز جستجو کردند؛ ولی ایلیا را نیافتند. | 17 |
And they pressed him till he was ashamed, and he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men, and they sought three days, but did not find him.
| وقتی بازگشتند، الیشع هنوز در اریحا بود و به ایشان گفت: «مگر به شما نگفتم نروید؟» | 18 |
And they came again to him (now he was staying at Jericho); and he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not?
| در این هنگام، چند نفر از اهالی شهر اریحا نزد الیشع آمده، به او گفتند: «همان‌طور که می‌دانید شهر ما در جای خوبی قرار دارد، ولی آب آن سالم نیست و باعث بی‌حاصلی زمین ما می‌شود.» | 19 |
And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold now, the situation of the city is good, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is barren.
| الیشع گفت: «در یک تشت تازه نمک بریزید و نزد من بیاورید.» تشت را آوردند. | 20 |
And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt in it. And they brought it to him.
| الیشع به سر چشمهٔ شهر رفت و نمک را در آن ریخته، گفت: «خداوند این آب را سالم کرده است تا پس از این دیگر موجب بی‌حاصلی زمین و مرگ نشود.» | 21 |
And he went forth to the source of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith Jehovah: I have healed these waters: there shall not be from thence any more death or barrenness.
| آب آن شهر همان‌گونه که الیشع گفته بود از آن پس سالم شد. | 22 |
And the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.
| الیشع از اریحا عازم بیت‌ئیل شد. در بین راه عده‌ای پسر نوجوان از شهری بیرون آمدند و او را به باد مسخره گرفته، گفتند: «آی کچل، از اینجا برو. آی کچل، از اینجا برو.» | 23 |
And he went up from thence to Bethel, and as he went up by the way, there came forth little boys out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head; go up, bald head!
| او نیز برگشت و به نام خداوند آنها را نفرین کرد. آنگاه دو خرس از جنگل بیرون آمدند و چهل و دو نفر از آنان را پاره کردند. | 24 |
And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of Jehovah. And there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tore forty-two children of them.
| سپس الیشع به کوه کرمل رفت و از آنجا به سامره بازگشت. | 25 |
And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
