دوم تواریخ 8

1 بیست سال طول کشید تا سلیمان خانهٔ خداوند و قصر خود را ساخت.

And it came to pass after twenty years, in which Solomon built the house of the Lord, and his own house,

2 بعد از آن نیروی خود را صرف بازسازی شهرهایی نمود که حیرام، پادشاه صور به او بخشیده بود. سپس عده‌ای از بنی‌اسرائیل را به آن شهرها کوچ داد.

that Solomon rebuilt the cities which Chiram had given to Solomon, and caused the children of Israel to dwell in them.

3 سلیمان به حمات صوبه حمله برد و آن را گرفت.

And Solomon came to Baesoba, and fortified it.

4 او شهر تدمور را در بیابان و تمام شهرهای نواحی حمات را که مراکز مهمات و آذوقه بودند، بنا کرد.

And he built Thoedmor in the wilderness, and all the strong cities which he built in Emath.

5 سلیمان شهر بیت‌حورون بالا و بیت‌حورون پایین را به شکل قلعه بازسازی نموده و دیوارهای آنها را تعمیر کرد و دروازه‌های پشتبنددار برای آنها کار گذاشت.

And he built Baethoron the upper, and Baethoron the lower, strong cities, —they had walls, gates, and bars;

6 سلیمان علاوه بر آنها شهر بعلت و شهرهای دیگری برای انبار مهمات و آذوقه و نگهداری اسبها و ارابه‌ها ساخت. خلاصه هر چه می‌خواست در اورشلیم و لبنان و سراسر قلمرو سلطنت خود بنا کرد.

and Balaath, and all the strong cities which Solomon had, and all his chariot cities, and cities of horsemen, and all things that Solomon desired according to his desire of building, in Jerusalem, and in Libanus, and in all his kingdom.

7 سلیمان از بازماندگان قومهای کنعانی که اسرائیلی‌ها در زمان تصرف کنعان آنها را از بین نبرده بودند، برای بیگاری استفاده می‌کرد. این قومها عبارت بودند از: اموری‌ها، فرزی‌ها، حیتی‌ها، حوی‌ها و یبوسی‌ها. نسل این قومها تا زمان حاضر نیز برده هستند و به بیگاری گرفته می‌شوند.

[As for] all the people that was left of the Chettites, and the Amorites, and the Pherezites, and the Evites, and the Jebusites, who are not of Israel,

but were of the children of them whom the children Israel destroyed not, that were left after them in the land, even them did Solomon make tributaries to this day.

9 اما سلیمان از بنی‌اسرائیل کسی را به بیگاری نمی‌گرفت، بلکه ایشان به صورت سرباز، افسر، فرمانده و رئیس ارابه‌رانها خدمت می‌کردند.

But Solomon did not make any of the children of Israel servants in his kingdom; for, behold, [they were] warriors and rulers, and mighty [men], and captains of chariots and horsemen.

10 دویست و پنجاه نفر نیز به عنوان سرپرست کارگران سلیمان گمارده شده بودند.

And these are the chiefs of the officers of king Solomon, two hundred and fifty overseeing the work amongst the people.

11 سلیمان زن خود را که دختر فرعون بود از شهر داوود به قصر تازه‌ای که برایش ساخته بود، آورد. او نمی‌خواست زنش در کاخ سلطنتی داوود زندگی کند، زیرا می‌گفت: «هر جا که صندوق عهد خداوند به آن داخل شده، مکان مقدّسی است.»

And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharao from the city of David to the house which he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the city of David, the king of Israel, for [the place] is holy into which the ark of the Lord has entered.

12 آنگاه سلیمان بر مذبحی که جلوی ایوان خانهٔ خدا ساخته بود، قربانیهای سوختنی به خداوند تقدیم کرد.

Then Solomon offered up to the Lord whole burnt offerings on the altar which he had built to the Lord before the temple,

13 مطابق دستوری که موسی داده بود، او برای هر یک از این روزهای مقدّس قربانی تقدیم می‌کرد: روزهای شبّات، جشنهای ماه نو، سه عید سالیانهٔ پِسَح، هفته‌ها و خیمه‌ها.

according to the daily rate, to offer up [sacrifices] according to the commandments of Moses, on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts, three times in the year, at the feast of unleavened bread, and at the feast of weeks, and at the feast of tabernacles.

14 سلیمان طبق مقرراتی که پدرش داوود، مرد خدا برای کاهنان و لاویان وضع کرده بود، آنها را سر خدمتشان گماشت. لاویان در وصف خداوند سرود می‌خواندند و کاهنان را در انجام وظایف روزانه کمک می‌کردند. سلیمان نگهبانان را نیز به نگهبانی دروازه‌هایشان گماشت.

And he established, according to the order of his father David, the courses of the priests, and [that] according to their public ministrations: and the Levites [were appointed] over their charges, to praise and minister before the priests according to the daily order: and the porters were appointed according to their courses to the different gates: for thus [were] the commandments of David the man of God.

15 کاهنان و لاویان تمام این مقررات را که داوود پادشاه وضع کرده بود، با کمال دقت اجرا می‌کردند. در ضمن ایشان مسئول خزانه‌داری نیز بودند.

They transgressed not the commandments of the king concerning the priests and the Levites with regard to everything else, and with regard to the treasures.

16 در این هنگام، تمام طرحهای ساختمانی سلیمان تکمیل شده بود. از پایه‌ریزی خانهٔ خداوند تا تکمیل ساختمان آن، همهٔ کارها با موفقیت انجام شده بود.

Now all the work had been prepared from the day when the foundation was laid, until Solomon finished the house of the Lord.

17 سپس سلیمان به شهرهای عصیون جابر و ایلوت، واقع در خلیج عقبه در زمین ادوم رفت.

Then Solomon went to Gasion Gaber, and to Aelath near the sea in the land of Idumea.

18 حیرام پادشاه کشتی‌هایی به فرماندهی افسران با تجربهٔ خود نزد سلیمان فرستاد. آنها همراه ملوانان سلیمان به سرزمین اوفیر رفتند و از آنجا بیش از پانزده تن طلا برای سلیمان آوردند.

And Chiram sent by the hand of his servants ships, and servants skilled in naval affairs; and they went with the servants of Solomon to Sophira, and brought thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and they came to king Solomon.
