| وقتی یهوشافاط مرد، او را در آرامگاه سلطنتی در اورشلیم، شهر داوود، دفن کردند و پسر او یهورام به جای او به سلطنت رسید. | 1 |
And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son became king in his stead.
| برادران او، یعنی سایر پسران یهوشافاط، اینها بودند: عزریا، یحی‌ئیل، زکریا، عزریاهو، میکائیل و شفطیا. | 2 |
And he had brothers the sons of Jehoshaphat: 'Azaryah, and Jechiel, and Zecharyahu, and 'Azaryahu, and Michael, and Shephatyahu, all these being sons of Jehoshaphat the king of Israel.
| پدرشان به هر یک از آنها هدایایی گرانبها از قبیل نقره و طلا و جواهرات و نیز شهرهای حصاردار در یهودا بخشیده بود. اما سلطنت را به یهورام داد چون پسر ارشدش بود. ولی یهورام وقتی زمام امور را به دست گرفت و بر اوضاع مسلط شد، تمام برادران خود و عدهٔ زیادی از بزرگان اسرائیل را کشت. | 3 |
And their father gave them many gifts [consisting] of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the first-born.

Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he slew all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.
| یهورام در سن سی و دو سالگی پادشاه شد و هشت سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد، | 5 |
Thirty and two years was Jehoram old when he became king, and eight years did he reign in Jerusalem.
| دختر اَخاب زن او بود و او مانند اَخاب و سایر پادشاهان اسرائیل نسبت به خداوند گناه می‌ورزید. | 6 |
And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as had done the house of Achab; for the daughter of Achab had he for wife: and he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord.
| اما خداوند نخواست دودمان سلطنت داوود را براندازد، زیرا با داوود عهد بسته بود که همیشه یکی از پسرانش پادشاه باشد. | 7 |
Yet would the Lord not destroy the house of David, on account of the covenant which he had made with David, and as he had said to give to him a government and to his sons at all times.
| در دورهٔ سلطنت یهورام، مردم ادوم از فرمان یهودا سرپیچی کردند و پادشاهی برای خود تعیین نمودند. | 8 |
In his days Edom revolted from under the power of Judah, and they appointed a king over themselves.
| یهورام و فرماندهان سپاه او با تمام ارابه‌های جنگی عازم ادوم شدند. اما ادومی‌ها آنها را محاصره کردند و یهورام شبانه از دست ادومی‌ها گریخت. | 9 |
Then did Jehoram go over with his princes, and all the chariots were with him; and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites who compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots.
| به این ترتیب ادوم تا به امروز استقلال خود را از یهودا حفظ کرده است. در این هنگام اهالی شهر لبنه نیز شورش نمودند، زیرا یهورام از خداوند، خدای اجدادش برگشته بود. | 10 |
Yet Edom revolted from under the power of Judah even until this day: then did Libnah revolt at the same time from under his power; because he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers.
| او همچنین بر بلندیهای یهودا بتخانه‌ها ساخت و اهالی اورشلیم را به بت‌پرستی کشاند و باعث شد مردم یهودا از خدا دور شوند. | 11 |
He also made high-places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go astray, and misled Judah.
| یهورام نامه‌ای از ایلیای نبی با این مضمون دریافت کرد: «خداوند، خدای جد تو داوود، می‌فرماید که چون مثل پدرت یهوشافاط و مانند آسا پادشاه یهودا رفتار نکردی، | 12 |
And there came unto him a writing from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus hath said the Lord the God of David thy father, Inasmuch as thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, and in the ways of Assa the king of Judah,
| بلکه مثل پادشاهان اسرائیل شرور بوده‌ای و مانند زمان اَخاب پادشاه، مردم یهودا و اورشلیم را به بت‌پرستی کشانده‌ای، و چون برادرانت را که از خودت بهتر بودند به قتل رساندی، | 13 |
But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go astray, as the house of Achab hath caused [others] to go astray, and hast also slain thy brothers of thy father's house, who were better than thyself:
| پس خداوند بلای سختی دامنگیر قوم تو و زنان و فرزندانت خواهد کرد؛ و تو هر چه داری از دست خواهی داد. | 14 |
Behold, the Lord will inflict a great plague on thy people, and on thy children, and on thy wives, and on all thy possessions;
| خودت نیز به مرض روده‌ای سختی مبتلا خواهی شد و این مرض آنقدر طول خواهد کشید تا روده‌هایت از بین برود.» | 15 |
And thou shalt be [afflicted] with great diseases by a disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels pass out [from thee] by reason of the disease days upon days.
| بنابراین خداوند فلسطینی‌ها و عرب‌هایی را که همسایهٔ حبشی‌ها بودند بر ضد یهورام برانگیخت. | 16 |
And the Lord stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that are alongside of the Cushim:
| آنها به یهودا حمله کرده، آن را گرفتند و تمام اموال کاخ سلطنتی و پسران و زنان یهورام را برداشته، با خود بردند. فقط پسر کوچک او اخزیا جان به در برد. | 17 |
And they went up against Judah, and made an incursion into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and also his sons, and his wives; and there was not left unto him any son, save Jehoachaz, the youngest of his sons.
| پس از آن، خداوند یهورام را به یک مرض علاج‌ناپذیر روده‌ای مبتلا کرد. | 18 |
And after all this did the Lord afflict him in his bowels with a disease which was incurable.
| به مرور زمان، بعد از دو سال، روده‌هایش بیرون آمد و او با دردی جانکاه مرد. قومش مراسم مخصوص دفن پادشاهان را برای او انجام ندادند. | 19 |
And it came to pass, from days to days, and when the [fixed] time was expired, after two years, that his bowels passed out [from him] by reason of his disease: so he died of evil diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning for his fathers.
| یهورام سی و دو سال داشت که پادشاه شد و هشت سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد و هنگامی که مرد، کسی برایش عزا نگرفت. یهورام در شهر داوود دفن شد، اما نه در آرامگاه سلطنتی. | 20 |
Thirty and two years old was he when he became king, and eight years did he reign in Jerusalem, and departed without joy: and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.
