دوم تواریخ 17

1 بعد از آسا، پسر او یهوشافاط به سلطنت رسید و لشکر خود را برای جنگ با اسرائیل بسیج نمود.

And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

2 یهوشافاط در تمام شهرهای حصاردار یهودا و شهرهای افرایم که پدرش آسا تصرف کرده بود، قرارگاههای نظامی مستقر نمود.

And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had taken.

3 خداوند با یهوشافاط بود، زیرا در سالهای اول سلطنتش مثل جدش داوود رفتار می‌کرد و از پرستش بتهای بعل اجتناب می‌ورزید.

And Jehovah was with Jehoshaphat, for he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baals;

4 برخلاف مردمانی که در اسرائیل زندگی می‌کردند، او کاملاً مطیع دستورهای خدای اجدادش بود و از او پیروی می‌نمود.

but he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

5 پس خداوند موقعیت سلطنت یهوشافاط را تحکیم نمود. تمام قوم یهودا به او هدایا تقدیم می‌کردند؛ در نتیجه او بسیار ثروتمند و معروف شد.

And Jehovah established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

6 یهوشافاط با دل و جان خداوند را خدمت می‌کرد. او بتکده‌های روی تپه‌ها را خراب کرد و بتهای شرم‌آور اشیره را از یهودا دور ساخت.

And he took courage in the ways of Jehovah; moreover, he removed the high places and Asherahs out of Judah.

7 او در سال سوم سلطنت خود این افراد را که از بزرگان قوم بودند برای تعلیم مردم به تمام شهرهای یهودا فرستاد: بنحایل، عوبدیا، زکریا، نتن‌ئیل و میکایا.

And in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethaneel, and Micah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

8 در ضمن نُه لاوی و دو کاهن نیز آنها را همراهی می‌کردند. لاویان عبارت بودند از: شمعیا، نتنیا، زبدیا، عسائیل، شمیراموت، یهوناتان، ادونیا، طوبیا و توب ادونیا. کاهنان نیز الیشمع و یهورام بودند.

and with them the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-Adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

9 آنها نسخه‌های کتاب تورات را به تمام شهرهای یهودا بردند و آن را به مردم تعلیم دادند.

And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Jehovah with them; and they went about through all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

10 ترس خداوند تمام قومهای همسایه را فرا گرفت، به طوری که هیچ‌کدام جرأت نمی‌کردند با یهوشافاط، پادشاه یهودا وارد جنگ شوند،

And the terror of Jehovah was upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, and they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

11 حتی بعضی از فلسطینی‌ها هدایا و باج و خراج برایش آوردند و عربها ۷٬۷۰۰ قوچ و ۷٬۷۰۰ بز نر به او هدیه کردند.

And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and tribute-silver. The Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand seven hundred rams, and seven thousand seven hundred he-goats.

12 به این ترتیب، یهوشافاط بسیار قدرتمند شد و در سراسر مملکت یهودا قلعه‌ها و شهرها برای ذخیرهٔ آذوقه و مهمات بنا کرد

And Jehoshaphat waxed exceeding great; and he built in Judah castles and store-cities.

13 و آذوقهٔ بسیار در شهرهای یهودا اندوخت. او در اورشلیم، پایتخت خود، سپاه نیرومندی به وجود آورد.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah; and men of war, strong and valiant, in Jerusalem.

14 فرماندهان این سپاه بزرگ و تعداد افرادی که آنها تحت فرمان خود داشتند عبارت بودند از: ادنه (فرماندهٔ سپاه یهودا)، با ۳۰۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز؛ پس از او، یهوحانان با ۲۸۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز؛ عمسیا (پسر زکری که خود را برای خدمت خداوند نذر کرده بود)، با ۲۰۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز؛ الیاداع (فرماندهٔ شجاع سپاه بنیامین) با ۲۰۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز مجهز به کمان و سپر و پس از او، یهوزاباد با ۱۸۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز تعلیم دیده.

And these are the numbers of them according to their fathers' houses. Of Judah the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour;

and next to him was Johanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;

16

and next to him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Jehovah; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

17

And of Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand, armed with bow and shield;

18

and next to him was Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand ready prepared for war.

19 اینها غیر از سربازانی بودند که پادشاه آنها را در شهرهای حصاردار سراسر مملکت یهودا گذاشته بود.

These were they that waited on the king, besides those that the king had put in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
