دوم تواریخ 14

1 ابیا درگذشت و در شهر داوود در کنار اجدادش دفن شد و پسرش آسا به جای او بر تخت سلطنت نشست. در طول ده سال اول سلطنت آسا، در قلمرو او صلح برقرار بود،

And Abijah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city of David, and reign doth Asa his son in his stead: in his days was the land quiet ten years.

2 زیرا آسا اوامر خداوند، خدای خود را اطاعت می‌کرد و مطابق میل او رفتار می‌نمود.

And Asa doth that which is good, and that which is right, in the eyes of Jehovah his God,

3 او مذبحهای مردم بت‌پرست و بتخانه‌های ایشان را که روی تپه‌ها ساخته شده بودند خراب کرد، مجسمه‌ها و بتهای شرم‌آور اشیره را خرد نمود،

and turneth aside the altars of the stranger, and the high places, and breaketh the standing-pillars, and cutteth down the shrines,

4 و از تمام مردم یهودا خواست که اوامر و احکام خداوند، خدای اجدادشان را اطاعت کنند و از او پیروی نمایند.

and saith to Judah to seek Jehovah, God of their fathers, and to do the law and the command;

5 او تمام بتکده‌ها را از بالای تپه‌ها، و مذبحهای بخور را از همهٔ شهرهای یهودا برداشت. به همین علّت بود که خداوند به سرزمین او صلح و آرامش بخشید و او توانست در سراسر یهودا شهرهای حصاردار بسازد.

and he turneth aside out of all cities of Judah the high places and the images, and the kingdom is quiet before him.

And he buildeth cities of bulwarks in Judah, for the land hath quiet, and there is no war with him in these years, because Jehovah hath given rest to him.

7 آسا به مردم یهودا گفت: «چون از خداوند، خدای خود پیروی کردیم او به ما صلح و آرامی بخشیده است. پس، از این فرصت استفاده کنیم و شهرها را بسازیم، دور آنها را حصار بکشیم و در اطراف آنها برجها و دروازه‌های پشتبنددار درست کنیم.» بنابراین ایشان با موفقیت شهرها را بنا کردند.

And he saith to Judah, 'Let us build these cities, and compass [them] with wall, and towers, two-leaved doors, and bars, while the land [is] before us, because we have sought Jehovah our God, we have sought, and He giveth rest to us round about;' and they build and prosper.

8 سپاه آسای پادشاه تشکیل شده بود از ۳۰۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز از یهودا که مجهز به نیزه و سپر بودند، و ۲۸۰٬۰۰۰ سرباز از بنیامین که مسلح به تیر و کمان و سپر بودند. همهٔ اینها جنگاورانی شجاع بودند.

And there is to Asa a force bearing target and spear, out of Judah three hundred thousand, and out of Benjamin, bearing shield and treading bow, two hundred and eighty thousand: all these [are] mighty of valour.

9 در این هنگام زارح سردار حبشی با لشکری بزرگ و سیصد ارابهٔ جنگی به شهر مریشه آمد.

And come out unto them doth Zerah the Cushite with a force of a thousand thousand, and chariots three hundred, and he cometh in unto Mareshah,

10 آسای پادشاه هم سپاه خود را برای جنگ با لشکر بزرگ حبشه به آنجا فرستاد. دو لشکر در درهٔ صفاته که نزدیک مریشه بود روبروی هم صف‌آرایی کردند.

and Asa goeth out before him, and they set battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 آسا به حضور خداوند، خدای خود چنین دعا کرد: «خداوندا فقط تو هستی که از ضعفا در مقابل زورمندان حمایت می‌کنی. ای خداوند، خدای ما، ما را یاری کن، زیرا چشم امیدمان فقط به توست و به نام تو به قلب این لشکر عظیم حمله می‌کنیم. ای خداوند، تو خدای ما هستی، نگذار انسان بر تو غالب آید!»

And Asa calleth unto Jehovah his God, and saith, 'Jehovah! it is nothing with Thee to help, between the mighty and those who have no power; help us, O Jehovah, our God, for on Thee we have leant, and in Thy name we have come against this multitude; O Jehovah, our God thou [art]; let him not prevail with Thee — mortal man!

12 خداوند حبشی‌ها را شکست داد و آنها متواری شدند و آسا و سپاه یهودا به پیروزی رسیدند.

And Jehovah smiteth the Cushim before Asa, and before Judah, and the Cushim flee,

13 آسا و همراهانش ایشان را تا جرار تعقیب نمودند و عدهٔ بی‌شماری از حبشی‌ها را کشتند به طوری که لشکر آنان کاملاً متلاشی شد. به این ترتیب خداوند و نیروهای او آنها را از بین بردند و لشکر یهودا غنیمت فراوان به چنگ آورد.

and Asa and the people who [are] with him pursue them even to Gerar, and there fall of the Cushim, for they have no preserving, because they have been broken before Jehovah, and before His camp; and they bear away very much spoil,

14 لشکر یهودا تمام شهرهای اطراف جرار را تسخیر نمود، زیرا ترس خداوند تمام ساکنان آن شهرها را فرا گرفته بود. لشکر یهودا از آنجا نیز غنایم بسیار به چنگ آورد.

and smite all the cities round about Gerar, for a fear of Jehovah hath been upon them, and they spoil all the cities, for abundant spoil hath been in them;

15 آنها همچنین پیش از آنکه به اورشلیم بازگردند، آغلهای حیوانات را خراب نموده، گله‌های گوسفند و شتران فراوانی گرفتند و با خود بردند.

and also tents of cattle they have smitten, and they capture sheep in abundance, and camels, and turn back to Jerusalem.
