اول سموئیل 12

1 سموئیل به مردم اسرائیل گفت: «هر چه از من خواستید برای شما انجام دادم. پادشاهی برای شما تعیین نمودم.

And Samuel said unto all Israel, Lo! I have hearkened unto your voice, in all that ye said to me, —and have set over you a king.

2 حال، او شما را رهبری می‌کند. پسرانم نیز در خدمت شما هستند. ولی من پیر و سفید مو شده‌ام و از روزهای جوانی‌ام تا به امروز در میان شما زندگی کرده‌ام.

Now, therefore, lo! the king going to and fro before you, But, I, am old and grey-headed, and, my sons, lo! they are with you, —But, I, have gone to and fro before you from my youth until this day.

3 اینک که در حضور خداوند و پادشاه برگزیدهٔ او ایستاده‌ام، به من بگویید گاو و الاغ چه کسی را به زور گرفته‌ام؟ چه کسی را فریب داده‌ام و به که ظلم کرده‌ام؟ از دست چه کسی رشوه گرفته‌ام تا حق را نادیده بگیرم؟ اگر چنین کرده‌ام حاضرم جبران کنم.»

Behold me! testify against me, before Yahweh, and before his Anointed—Whose, ox, have I taken? or whose, ass, have I taken? or whom have I oppressed? Whom have I crushed? or at whose, hands, have I taken a bribe, to cover up mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it unto you.

4 همه در جواب وی گفتند: «تو هرگز کسی را فریب نداده‌ای، بر هیچ‌کس ظلم نکرده‌ای و رشوه نگرفته‌ای.»

And they said, Thou hast not oppressed us, neither hast thou crushed us, —neither hast thou taken, at the hand of any man, any thing.

5 سموئیل گفت: «خداوند و پادشاه برگزیدهٔ او، امروز شاهدند که شما عیبی در من نیافتید.» مردم گفتند: «بله، همین‌طور است.»

And he said unto them—Witness, is Yahweh against you, and, witness, is his Anointed, this day, that ye have not found in my hand, any thing! And they said: Witness!

6 سموئیل گفت: «این خداوند بود که موسی و هارون را برگزید و اجداد شما را از مصر بیرون آورد.

And Samuel said unto the people: Witness, is Yahweh, who wrought with Moses and with Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt.

7 حال، در حضور خداوند بایستید تا کارهای شگفت‌انگیز خداوند را که در حق شما و اجدادتان انجام داده است به یاد شما آورم:

Now, therefore, take your stand and let me plead with you, before Yahweh, —and tell you all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he wrought with you, and with your fathers:

8 «وقتی بنی‌اسرائیل در مصر بودند و برای رهایی خود به حضور خداوند فریاد برآوردند، خداوند موسی و هارون را فرستاد و ایشان بنی‌اسرائیل را به این سرزمین آوردند.

How that, when Jacob had come into Egypt, —and your fathers had made outcry unto Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and he caused them to dwell in this place;

9 اما بنی‌اسرائیل خداوند، خدای خود را از یاد بردند. پس خدا هم ایشان را به دست سیسرا سردار سپاه حاصور، فلسطینی‌ها و پادشاه موآب سپرد و آنها با ایشان جنگیدند.

And, when they forgat Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, prince of the host of Jabin, king of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them;

10 آنها نزد خداوند فریاد برآورده، گفتند: ما گناه کرده‌ایم، زیرا از پیروی تو برگشته‌ایم و بعل و عشتاروت را پرستیده‌ایم. حال، ما را از چنگ دشمنانمان برهان و ما فقط تو را پرستش خواهیم کرد.

But, when they made outcry unto Yahweh and said—We have sinned, in that we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, —now, therefore, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve thee,

11 پس خداوند جدعون، باراق، یفتاح و سرانجام مرا فرستاد و شما را از دست دشمنان نجات داد تا شما در امنیت زندگی کنید.

then Yahweh sent Jerubbaal and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, —and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies, on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.

12 اما وقتی ناحاش، پادشاه بنی‌عمون را دیدید که قصد حمله به شما را دارد، نزد من آمدید و پادشاهی خواستید تا بر شما سلطنت کند و حال آنکه خداوند، خدایتان پادشاه شما بود.

But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!

13 پس این است پادشاهی که شما برگزیده‌اید. خود شما او را خواسته‌اید و خداوند هم خواست شما را اجابت نموده است.

Now, therefore, lo! the king whom ye have chosen, for whom ye have asked, —lo! therefore, Yahweh hath set over you a king.

14 «حال اگر از خداوند بترسید و او را عبادت کرده، به کلامش گوش دهید و از فرمانش سرپیچی نکنید، و اگر شما و پادشاه شما خداوند، خدای خود را پیروی نمایید، همه چیز به خوبی پیش خواهد رفت؛

If ye will revere Yahweh, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then shall, both ye and your king that reigneth over you, continue to follow after Yahweh your God.

15 اما اگر برخلاف دستورهای خداوند، خدایتان رفتار کنید و به سخنان او گوش ندهید، آنگاه شما را مثل اجدادتان مجازات خواهد کرد.

But, if ye hearken not unto the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then will the hand of Yahweh continue to be against you, and against your fathers.

16 «حال، بایستید و این کار عظیم خداوند را مشاهده کنید.

Even now, stand still and see this great thing, —which Yahweh is about to do before your eyes:

17 مگر نه اینکه در این فصل که گندم را درو می‌کنند از باران خبری نیست؟ ولی من دعا می‌کنم خداوند رعد و برق ایجاد کند و باران بباراند تا بدانید که کار خوبی نکردید که پادشاه خواستید چون با این کار، گناه بزرگی نسبت به خدا مرتکب شدید.»

Is it not wheat harvest, to-day? I will cry unto Yahweh, that he may give forth thunderings and rain, —know ye then and see, that, your wrong, is great which ye have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking for yourselves, a king.

18 سپس، سموئیل در حضور خداوند دعا کرد و خداوند در همان روز رعد و برق و باران فرستاد و مردم از خداوند و از سموئیل بسیار ترسیدند.

So Samuel cried unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gave forth thunderings and rain, on that day, —and all the people greatly feared Yahweh, and Samuel.

19 آنها به سموئیل گفتند: «در حضور خداوند، خدای خود برای ما دعا کن تا نمیریم؛ زیرا با خواستن پادشاه بار گناهان خود را سنگین‌تر کردیم.»

And all the people said unto Samuel—Pray for thy servants, unto Yahweh thy God, and let it not be that we die, —For we have added, to all our sins, a wrong, in asking for ourselves a king.

20 سموئیل به آنها گفت: «نترسید! درست است که کار بدی کرده‌اید، ولی سعی کنید بعد از این با تمام وجود، خداوند را پرستش نمایید و به هیچ وجه از او روگردان نشوید.

Then said Samuel unto the people—Do not fear, ye, have done all this wrong, —nevertheless, do not turn aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh, with all your heart;

21 بتها را عبادت نکنید چون باطل و بی‌فایده‌اند و نمی‌توانند به داد شما برسند.

and turn not aside after vanities, that can neither profit nor deliver, because, vanities, they are.

22 خداوند به خاطر حرمت نام عظیم خود، هرگز قوم خود را ترک نخواهد کرد، زیرا خواست او این بوده است که شما را قوم خاص خود سازد.

For Yahweh will not give up his people, because of his great name, for Yahweh was minded to make you his people.

23 و اما من، محال است که از دعا کردن برای شما دست بکشم، و چنین گناهی نسبت به خداوند مرتکب شوم. من هر چه را که راست و نیکوست به شما تعلیم می‌دهم.

As for me also, far be it from me, that I should sin against Yahweh, by ceasing to pray for you, —but I will direct you, in the good and right way.

24 شما باید تنها ترس خداوند را در دل داشته باشید و با وفاداری و از صمیم قلب او را عبادت نمایید و در کارهای شگفت‌انگیزی که برای شما انجام داده است تفکر کنید.

Only, revere Yahweh, and serve him in truth, with all your heart, —for see, what great things he hath done with you.

25 اما اگر به گناه ادامه دهید، هم شما و هم پادشاهتان هلاک خواهید شد.»

But, if ye, will do wrong, both ye and your king shall be swept away.
