امثال 28

۱ 1 تعاقب کننده‌ای نیست، اما عادلان مثل شیر شجاعند.

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

۲ 2 از معصیت اهل زمین حاکمانش بسیارمی شوند، اما مرد فهیم و دانا استقامتش برقرارخواهد ماند.

For the transgression of a land many are its princes: but by a man of understanding and knowledge its state shall be prolonged.

۳ 3 مرد رئیس که بر مسکینان ظلم می‌کند مثل باران است که سیلان کرده، خوراک باقی نگذارد.

A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

۴ 4 هر‌که شریعت را ترک می‌کند شریران رامی ستاید، اما هر‌که شریعت را نگاه دارد از ایشان نفرت دارد.

They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

۵ 5 مردمان شریر انصاف را درک نمی نمایند، اماطالبان خداوند همه‌چیز را می‌فهمند.

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

۶ 6 فقیری که در کاملیت خود سلوک نماید بهتراست از کج رونده دو راه اگر‌چه دولتمند باشد.

Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

۷ 7 هر‌که شریعت را نگاه دارد پسری حکیم است، اما مصاحب مسرفان، پدر خویش را رسوامی سازد.

He who keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of gluttonous men shameth his father.

۸ 8 هر‌که مال خود را به ربا و سود بیفزاید، آن رابرای کسی‌که بر فقیران ترحم نماید، جمع می‌نماید.

He that by interest and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

۹ 9 هر‌که گوش خود را از شنیدن شریعت برگرداند، دعای او هم مکروه می‌شود.

He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

۱۰ 10 هر‌که راستان را به راه بد گمراه کند به حفره خود خواهد افتاد، اما صالحان نصیب نیکوخواهند یافت.

Whoever causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

۱۱ 11 مرد دولتمند در نظر خود حکیم است، امافقیر خردمند او را تفتیش خواهد نمود.

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

۱۲ 12 چون عادلان شادمان شوند فخر عظیم است، اما چون شریران برافراشته شوند مردمان خود را مخفی می‌سازند.

When righteous men rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

۱۳ 13 هر‌که گناه خود را بپوشاند برخوردارنخواهد شد، اما هر‌که آن را اعتراف کند و ترک نماید رحمت خواهد یافت.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but he who confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

۱۴ 14 خوشابحال کسی‌که دائم می‌ترسد، اما هرکه دل خود را سخت سازد به بلا گرفتار خواهدشد.

Happy is the man that feareth always: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

۱۵ 15 حاکم شریر بر قوم مسکین، مثل شیر غرنده و خرس گردنده است.

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

۱۶ 16 حاکم ناقص العقل بسیار ظلم می‌کند، اماهر‌که از رشوه نفرت کند عمر خود را درازخواهد ساخت.

The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

۱۷ 17 کسی‌که متحمل بار خون شخصی شود، به هاویه می‌شتابد. زنهار کسی او را باز ندارد.

A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man sustain him.

۱۸ 18 هر‌که به استقامت سلوک نماید رستگارخواهد شد، اما هر‌که در دو راه کج رو باشد دریکی از آنها خواهد افتاد.

He who walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

۱۹ 19 هر‌که زمین خود را زرع نماید از نان سیرخواهد شد، اما هر‌که پیروی باطلان کند از فقرسیر خواهد شد.

He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

۲۰ 20 مرد امین برکت بسیار خواهد یافت، اماآنکه در‌پی دولت می‌شتابد بی‌سزا نخواهد ماند.

A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

۲۱ 21 طرفداری نیکو نیست، و به جهت لقمه‌ای نان، آدمی خطاکار می‌شود.

To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

۲۲ 22 مرد تنگ نظر در‌پی دولت می‌شتابد ونمی داند که نیازمندی او را درخواهد یافت.

He that hasteneth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

۲۳ 23 کسی‌که آدمی را تنبیه نماید، آخر شکرخواهد یافت، بیشتر از آنکه به زبان خودچاپلوسی می‌کند.

He that rebuketh a man afterward shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

۲۴ 24 کسی‌که پدر و مادر خود را غارت نماید وگوید گناه نیست، مصاحب هلاک کنندگان خواهدشد.

He that robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

۲۵ 25 مرد حریص نزاع را برمی انگیزاند، اما هر‌که بر خداوند توکل نماید قوی خواهد شد.

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

۲۶ 26 آنکه بر دل خود توکل نماید احمق می‌باشد، اما کسی‌که به حکمت سلوک نمایدنجات خواهد یافت.

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoever walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

۲۷ 27 هر‌که به فقرا بذل نماید محتاج نخواهدشد، اما آنکه چشمان خود را بپوشاند لعنت بسیارخواهد یافت.

He that giveth to the poor shall not want: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

۲۸ 28 وقتی که شریران برافراشته شوند مردم خویشتن را پنهان می‌کنند، اما چون ایشان هلاک شوند عادلان افزوده خواهند شد.

When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
