امثال 21

۱ 1 دل پادشاه مثل نهرهای آب در دست خداوند است، آن را به هر سو که بخواهد برمی گرداند.

THE king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

۲ 2 هر راه انسان در نظر خودش راست است، اماخداوند دلها را می‌آزماید.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.

۳ 3 عدالت و انصاف را بجا آوردن، نزد خداونداز قربانی‌ها پسندیده تر است.

To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

۴ 4 چشمان بلند و دل متکبر و چراغ شریران، گناه است.

An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

۵ 5 فکرهای مرد زرنگ تمام به فراخی می‌انجامد، اما هر‌که عجول باشد برای احتیاج تعجیل می‌کند.

The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

۶ 6 تحصیل گنجها به زبان دروغگو، بخاری است بر هوا شده برای جویندگان موت.

The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

۷ 7 ظلم شریران ایشان را به هلاکت می‌اندازد، زیرا که از بجا آوردن انصاف ابا می‌نمایند.

The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.

۸ 8 طریق مردی که زیر بار (گناه ) باشد بسیار کج است، اما اعمال مرد طاهر، مستقیم است.

The way of man is froward and strange: but as for the pure, his work is right.

۹ 9 در زاویه پشت بام ساکن شدن بهتر است، ازساکن بودن با زن ستیزه گر در خانه مشترک.

It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

۱۰ 10 جان شریر مشتاق شرارت است، و برهمسایه خود ترحم نمی کند.

The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.

۱۱ 11 چون استهزاکننده سیاست یابد جاهلان حکمت می‌آموزند، و چون مرد حکیم تربیت یابد معرفت را تحصیل می‌نماید.

When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

۱۲ 12 مرد عادل در خانه شریر تامل می‌کند که چگونه اشرار به تباهی واژگون می‌شوند.

The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness.

۱۳ 13 هر‌که گوش خود را از فریاد فقیر می‌بندد، او نیز فریاد خواهد کرد و مستجاب نخواهد شد.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

۱۴ 14 هدیه‌ای در خفا خشم را فرو می‌نشاند، ورشوه‌ای در بغل، غضب سخت را.

A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

۱۵ 15 انصاف کردن خرمی عادلان است، اما باعث پریشانی بدکاران می‌باشد.

It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

۱۶ 16 هر‌که از طریق تعقل گمراه شود، درجماعت مردگان ساکن خواهد گشت.

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

۱۷ 17 هر‌که عیش را دوست دارد محتاج خواهدشد، و هر‌که شراب و روغن را دوست دارددولتمند نخواهد گردید.

He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

۱۸ 18 شریران فدیه عادلان می‌شوند وخیانتکاران به عوض راستان.

The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

۱۹ 19 در زمین بایر ساکن بودن بهتر است از بودن با زن ستیزه گر و جنگجوی.

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

۲۰ 20 در منزل حکیمان خزانه مرغوب و روغن است، اما مرد احمق آنها را تلف می‌کند.

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

۲۱ 21 هر‌که عدالت و رحمت را متابعت کند، حیات و عدالت و جلال خواهد یافت.

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

۲۲ 22 مرد حکیم به شهر جباران برخواهد آمد، وقلعه اعتماد ایشان را به زیر می‌اندازد.

A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

۲۳ 23 هر‌که دهان و زبان خویش را نگاه دارد، جان خود را از تنگیها محافظت می‌نماید.

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

۲۴ 24 مرد متکبر و مغرور مسمی به استهزاکننده می‌شود، و به افزونی تکبر عمل می‌کند.

Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

۲۵ 25 شهوت مرد کاهل او را می‌کشد، زیرا که دستهایش از کار کردن ابا می‌نماید.

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

۲۶ 26 هستند که همه اوقات به شدت حریص می‌باشند، اما مرد عادل بذل می‌کند و امساک نمی نماید.

He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.

۲۷ 27 قربانی های شریران مکروه است، پس چندمرتبه زیاده هنگامی که به عوض بدی آنها رامی گذرانند.

The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?

۲۸ 28 شاهد دروغگو هلاک می‌شود، اما کسی‌که استماع نماید به راستی تکلم خواهد کرد.

A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.

۲۹ 29 مرد شریر روی خود را بی‌حیا می‌سازد، ومرد راست، طریق خویش را مستحکم می‌کند.

A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

۳۰ 30 حکمتی نیست و نه فطانتی و نه مشورتی که به ضد خداوند به‌کار آید.

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.

۳۱ 31 اسب برای روز جنگ مهیا است، اما نصرت از جانب خداوند است.

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.
