امثال 2

۱ 1 ای پسر من اگر سخنان مرا قبول می‌نمودی و اوامر مرا نزد خود نگاه می‌داشتی،

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and wilt hide my commandments with thee,

۲ 2 تاگوش خود را به حکمت فرا گیری و دل خود را به فطانت مایل گردانی،

That thy ear may hearken to wisdom: Incline thy heart to know prudence:

۳ 3 اگر فهم را دعوت می‌کردی و آواز خود را به فطانت بلندمی نمودی،

For if thou shalt call for wisdom, and incline thy heart to prudence:

۴ 4 اگر آن را مثل نقره می‌طلبیدی ومانند خزانه های مخفی جستجو می‌کردی،

If thou shalt seek her as money, and shalt dig for her as for a treasure:

۵ 5 آنگاه ترس خداوند را می‌فهمیدی، و معرفت خدا را حاصل می‌نمودی.

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and shalt find the knowledge of God.

۶ 6 زیرا خداوندحکمت را می‌بخشد، و از دهان وی معرفت وفطانت صادر می‌شود.

Because the Lord giveth wisdom: and out of his mouth cometh prudence and knowledge.

۷ 7 به جهت مستقیمان، حکمت کامل را ذخیره می‌کند و برای آنانی که درکاملیت سلوک می‌نمایند، سپر می‌باشد،

He will keep the salvation of the righteous, and protect them that walk in simplicity.

۸ 8 تاطریقهای انصاف را محافظت نماید و طریق مقدسان خویش را نگاه دارد.

Keeping the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of saints.

۹ 9 پس آنگاه عدالت و انصاف را می‌فهمیدی، و استقامت و هر طریق نیکو را.

Then shalt thou understand justice, and judgment, and equity, and every good path.

۱۰ 10 زیرا که حکمت به دل تو داخل می‌شد و معرفت نزد جان تو عزیزمی گشت.

If wisdom shall enter into thy heart, and knowledge please thy soul:

۱۱ 11 تمیز، تو را محافظت می‌نمود، وفطانت، تو را نگاه می‌داشت،

Counsel shall keep thee, and prudence shall preserve thee,

۱۲ 12 تا تو را از راه شریر رهایی بخشد، و از کسانی که به سخنان کج متکلم می‌شوند.

That thou mayst be delivered from the evil way, and from the man that speaketh perverse things:

۱۳ 13 که راههای راستی را ترک می‌کنند، و به طریقهای تاریکی سالک می‌شوند.

Who leave the right way, and walk by dark ways:

۱۴ 14 از عمل بد خشنودند، و از دروغهای شریرخرسندند.

Who are glad when they have done evil, and rejoice in most wicked things:

۱۵ 15 که در راههای خود معوجند، و درطریقهای خویش کج رو می‌باشند.

Whose ways are perverse, and their steps infamous.

۱۶ 16 تا تو را اززن اجنبی رهایی بخشد، و از زن بیگانه‌ای که سخنان تملق‌آمیز می‌گوید؛

That thou mayst be delivered from the strange women, and from the stranger, who softeneth her words:

۱۷ 17 که مصاحب جوانی خود را ترک کرده، و عهد خدای خویش را فراموش نموده است.

And forsaketh the guide of her youth,

۱۸ 18 زیرا خانه او به موت فرو می‌رود و طریقهای او به مردگان.

And hath forgotten the covenant of her God: for her house inclineth unto death, and her paths to hell. (questioned)

۱۹ 19 کسانی که نزد وی روند برنخواهند گشت، و به طریقهای حیات نخواهند رسید.

None that go in unto her shall return again, neither shall they take hold of the paths of life,

۲۰ 20 تا به راه صالحان سلوک نمایی و طریقهای عادلان را نگاه داری.

That thou mayst walk in a good way: and mayst keep the paths of the just.

۲۱ 21 زیراکه راستان در زمین ساکن خواهند شد، و کاملان در آن باقی خواهند ماند.

For they that are upright shall dwell in the earth, and the simple shall continue in it.

۲۲ 22 لیکن شریران از زمین منقطع خواهند شد، و ریشه خیانتکاران از آن کنده خواهد گشت.

But the wicked shall be destroyed from the earth: and they that do unjustly shall be taken away from it.
