امثال 14

۱ 1 هر زن حکیم خانه خود را بنا می‌کند، اما زن جاهل آن را با دست خود خراب می‌نماید.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

۲ 2 کسی‌که به راستی خود سلوک می‌نماید ازخداوند می‌ترسد، اما کسی‌که در طریق خودکج رفتار است او را تحقیر می‌نماید.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but [he that is] perverse in his ways despiseth him.

۳ 3 در دهان احمق چوب تکبر است، اما لبهای حکیمان ایشان را محافظت خواهد نمود.

In the mouth of the foolish [is] a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

۴ 4 جایی که گاو نیست، آخور پاک است، اما ازقوت گاو، محصول زیاد می‌شود.

Where no oxen [are], the crib [is] clean: but much increase [is] by the strength of the ox.

۵ 5 شاهد امین دروغ نمی گوید، اما شاهد دروغ به کذب تنطق می‌کند.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

۶ 6 استهزاکننده حکمت را می‌طلبد و نمی یابد. اما به جهت مرد فهیم علم آسان است.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not: but knowledge [is] easy to him that understandeth.

۷ 7 از حضور مرد احمق دور شو، زیرا لبهای معرفت را در او نخواهی یافت.

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not [in him] the lips of knowledge.

۸ 8 حکمت مرد زیرک این است که راه خود رادرک نماید، اما حماقت احمقان فریب است.

The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way: but the folly of fools [is] deceit.

۹ 9 احمقان به گناه استهزا می‌کنند، اما در میان راستان رضامندی است.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous [there is] favor.

۱۰ 10 دل شخص تلخی خویشتن را می‌داند، وغریب در خوشی آن مشارکت ندارد.

The heart knoweth its own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.

۱۱ 11 خانه شریران منهدم خواهد شد، اما خیمه راستان شکوفه خواهد آورد.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

۱۲ 12 راهی هست که به نظر آدمی مستقیم می‌نماید، اما عاقبت آن، طرق موت است.

There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [are] the ways of death.

۱۳ 13 هم در لهو و لعب دل غمگین می‌باشد، وعاقبت این خوشی حزن است.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth [is] heaviness.

۱۴ 14 کسی‌که در دل مرتد است از راههای خودسیر می‌شود، و مرد صالح به خود سیر است.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man [shall be satisfied] from himself.

۱۵ 15 مرد جاهل هر سخن را باور می‌کند، اما مردزیرک در رفتار خود تامل می‌نماید.

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

۱۶ 16 مرد حکیم می‌ترسد و از بدی اجتناب می‌نماید، اما احمق از غرور خود ایمن می‌باشد.

A wise [man] feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

۱۷ 17 مرد کج خلق، احمقانه رفتار می‌نماید، و(مردم ) از صاحب سوظن نفرت دارند.

[He that is] soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

۱۸ 18 نصیب جاهلان حماقت است، اما معرفت، تاج زیرکان خواهد بود.

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

۱۹ 19 بدکاران در حضور نیکان خم می‌شوند، وشریران نزد دروازه های عادلان می‌ایستند.

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

۲۰ 20 همسایه فقیر نیز از او نفرت دارد، امادوستان شخص دولتمند بسیارند.

The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich [hath] many friends.

۲۱ 21 هر‌که همسایه خود را حقیر شمارد گناه می‌ورزد، اما خوشابحال کسی‌که بر فقیران ترحم نماید.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy [is] he.

۲۲ 22 آیا صاحبان تدبیر فاسد گمراه نمی شوند، اما برای کسانی که تدبیر نیکو می‌نمایند، رحمت و راستی خواهد بود.

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth [shall be] to them that devise good.

۲۳ 23 از هر مشقتی منفعت است، اما کلام لبها به فقر محض می‌انجامد.

In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to penury.

۲۴ 24 تاج حکیمان دولت ایشان است، اماحماقت احمقان حماقت محض است.

The crown of the wise [is] their riches: [but] the foolishness of fools [is] folly.

۲۵ 25 شاهد امین جانها را نجات می‌بخشد، اما هرکه به دروغ تنطق می‌کند فریب محض است.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful [witness] speaketh lies.

۲۶ 26 در ترس خداوند اعتماد قوی است، وفرزندان او را ملجا خواهد بود.

In the fear of the LORD [is] strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

۲۷ 27 ترس خداوند چشمه حیات‌است، تا ازدامهای موت اجتناب نمایند.

The fear of the LORD [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

۲۸ 28 جلال پادشاه از کثرت مخلوق است، وشکستگی سلطان از کمی مردم است.

In the multitude of people [is] the king's honor: but in the want of people [is] the destruction of the prince.

۲۹ 29 کسی‌که دیرغضب باشد کثیرالفهم است، وکج خلق حماقت را به نصیب خود می‌برد.

[He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

۳۰ 30 دل آرام حیات بدن است، اما حسدپوسیدگی استخوانها است.

A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

۳۱ 31 هر‌که بر فقیر ظلم کند آفریننده خود راحقیر می‌شمارد، و هر‌که بر مسکین ترحم کند اورا تمجید می‌نماید.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.

۳۲ 32 شریر از شرارت خود به زیر افکنده می‌شود، اما مرد عادل چون بمیرد اعتماد دارد.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

۳۳ 33 حکمت در دل مرد فهیم ساکن می‌شود، امادر اندرون جاهلان آشکار می‌گردد.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but [that which is] in the midst of fools is made known.

۳۴ 34 عدالت قوم را رفیع می‌گرداند، اما گناه برای قوم، عار است.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.

۳۵ 35 رضامندی پادشاه بر خادم عاقل است، اماغضب او بر پست فطرتان.

The king's favor [is] towards a wise servant: but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
