نحمیا 1

۱ 1 کلام نحمیا ابن حکلیا: در ماه کسلو در سال بیستم هنگامی که من در دارالسلطنه شوشان بودم، واقع شد

The words of Nehemiah the son of Chachalyah. And it came to pass in the month Kislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan, the capital,

۲ 2 که حنانی، یکی ازبرادرانم با کسانی چند از یهودا آمدند و از ایشان درباره بقیه یهودی که از اسیری باقی‌مانده بودندو درباره اورشلیم سوال نمودم.

That there came Chanani, one of my brethren, himself with certain men of Judah: and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

۳ 3 ایشان مراجواب دادند: «آنانی که آنجا در بلوک از اسیری باقی‌مانده‌اند در مصیبت سخت و افتضاح می‌باشند و حصار اورشلیم خراب ودروازه هایش به آتش سوخته شده است.»

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great misery and in disgrace; and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and her gates are burnt with fire.

۴ 4 و چون این سخنان را شنیدم، نشستم و گریه کرده، ایامی چند ماتم داشتم و به حضور خدای آسمانها روزه گرفته، دعا نمودم.

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned some days, and I was fasting, and praying before the God of heaven.

۵ 5 و گفتم: «آه‌ای یهوه، خدای آسمانها، ای خدای عظیم و مهیب که عهد و رحمت را بر آنانی که تو را دوست می‌دارند و اوامر تو را حفظ می‌نمایند، نگاه می‌داری،

And I said, I beseech thee, O Lord the God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth the covenant and kindness for those that love him and for those that keep his commandments:

۶ 6 گوشهای تو متوجه و چشمانت گشاده شود و دعای بنده خود را که من در این وقت نزد تو روز و شب درباره بندگانت بنی‌اسرائیل می‌نمایم، اجابت فرمایی و به گناهان بنی‌اسرائیل که به تو ورزیده‌ایم، اعتراف می‌نمایم، زیرا که هم من و هم خاندان پدرم گناه کرده‌ایم.

Let thy ear now be attentive, and thy eyes be open, I entreat thee, to hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, which I am praying this day before thee, by day and by night, in behalf of the children of Israel thy servants, and [as] I confess for the sins of the children of Israel, [with] which we have sinned against thee: yea, I also and my father's house have sinned.

۷ 7 به درستی که به تو مخالفت عظیمی ورزیده‌ایم و اوامر و فرایض و احکامی را که به بنده خود موسی فرموده بودی، نگاه نداشته‌ایم.

We have dealt very corruptly toward thee: and we have not kept the commandments, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou didst command Moses thy servant.

۸ 8 پس حال، کلامی را که به بنده خود موسی‌امرفرمودی، بیاد آور که گفتی شما خیانت خواهیدورزید و من شما را در میان امت‌ها پراکنده خواهم ساخت.

Remember, I beseech thee, the word with which thou didst charge Moses thy servant, saying, If ye become truly unfaithful, I will indeed scatter you among the nations.

۹ 9 اما چون بسوی من بازگشت نمایید واوامر مرا نگاه داشته، به آنها عمل نمایید، اگر‌چه پراکندگان شما در اقصای آسمانها باشند، من ایشان را از آنجا جمع خواهم کرد و به مکانی که آن را برگزیده‌ام تا نام خود را در آن ساکن سازم درخواهم آورد.

But if ye return unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them: [then] though your outcasts should be at the utmost parts of heaven, from there will I gather them, and I will bring them unto the place which I have chosen to let my name dwell there.

۱۰ 10 و ایشان بندگان و قوم تومی باشند که ایشان را به قوت عظیم خود و به‌دست قوی خویش فدیه داده‌ای.

And they are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

۱۱ 11 ‌ای خداوند، گوش تو بسوی دعای بنده ات و دعای بندگانت که به رغبت تمام از اسم تو ترسان می‌باشند، متوجه بشود و بنده خود را امروز کامیاب فرمایی و او را به حضور این مرد مرحمت عطا کنی.» زیراکه من ساقی پادشاه بودم.

I beseech thee, O Lord, do let thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who are desirous to fear thy name; and grant success, I pray thee, to thy servant this day, and let him find mercy in the sight of this man —But I was butler by the king.
