عزرا 5

۱ 1 آنگاه دو نبی، یعنی حجی نبی و زکریا ابن عدو، برای یهودیانی که در یهودا واورشلیم بودند، به نام خدای اسرائیل که با ایشان می‌بود نبوت کردند.

Now Aggeus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo, prophesied to the Jews that were in Judea and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel.

۲ 2 و در آن زمان زربابل بن شالتیئیل و یشوع بن یوصاداق برخاسته، به بنانمودن خانه خدا که در اورشلیم است شروع کردند و انبیای خدا همراه ایشان بوده، ایشان رامساعدت می‌نمودند.

Then rose up Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Josue the son of Josedec, and began to build the temple of God in Jerusalem, and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

۳ 3 در آن وقت تتنائی، والی ماورای نهر و شتربوزنای و رفقای ایشان آمده، به ایشان چنین گفتند: «کیست که شما را امر فرموده است که این خانه را بنا نمایید و این حصار را برپاکنید؟»

And at the same time came to them Thathanai, who was governor beyond the river, and Stharbuzanai, and their counsellors: and said thus to them: Who hath given you counsel to build this house, and to repair the walls thereof?

۴ 4 پس ایشان را بدین منوال از نامهای کسانی که این عمارت را بنا می‌کردند اطلاع دادیم.

In answer to which we gave them the names of the men who were the promoters of that building.

۵ 5 اما چشم خدای ایشان بر مشایخ یهودا بودکه ایشان را نتوانستند از کار بازدارند تا این امر به سمع داریوش برسد و جواب مکتوب درباره‌اش داده شود.

But the eye of their God was upon the ancients of the Jews, and they could not hinder them. And it was agreed that the matter should be referred to Darius, and then they should give satisfaction concerning that accusation.

۶ 6 سواد مکتوبی که تتنای، والی ماورای نهر و شتربوزنای و رفقای او افرسکیان که درماورای نهر ساکن بودند، نزد داریوش پادشاه فرستادند.

The copy of the letter that Thathanai governor of the country beyond the river, and Stharbuzanai, and his counsellors the Arphasachites, who dwelt beyond the river, sent to Darius the king.

۷ 7 مکتوب را نزد او فرستادند و در آن بدین مضمون مرقوم بود که «بر داریوش پادشاه سلامتی تمام باد.

The letter which they sent him, was written thus: To Darius the king all peace.

۸ 8 بر پادشاه معلوم باد که ما به بلاد یهودیان، به خانه خدای عظیم رفتیم و آن رااز سنگهای بزرگ بنا می‌کنند و چوبها در دیوارش می‌گذارند و این کار در دست ایشان به تعجیل، معمول و به انجام رسانیده می‌شود.

Be it known to the king, that we went to the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which they are building with unpolished stones, and timber is laid in the walls: and this work is carried on diligently, and advanceth in their hands.

۹ 9 آنگاه ازمشایخ ایشان پرسیده، چنین به ایشان گفتیم: کیست که شما را امر فرموده است که این خانه رابنا کنید و دیوارهایش را برپا نمایید؟

And we asked those ancients, and said to them thus: Who hath given you authority to build this house, and to repair these walls?

۱۰ 10 و نیزنامهای ایشان را از ایشان پرسیدیم تا تو را اعلام نماییم و نامهای کسانی که روسای ایشانندنوشته‌ایم.

We asked also of them their names, that we might give thee notice: and we have written the names of the men that are the chief among them.

۱۱ 11 و ایشان در جواب ما چنین گفتند که ما بندگان خدای آسمان و زمین هستیم و خانه‌ای را تعمیر می‌نماییم که چندین سال قبل از این بناشده و پادشاه بزرگ اسرائیل آن را ساخته و به انجام رسانیده بود.

And they answered us in these words, saying: We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are building a temple that was built these many years ago, and which a great king of Israel built and set up.

۱۲ 12 لیکن بعد از آن، پدران ماخشم خدای آسمان را به هیجان آوردند. پس اوایشان را به‌دست نبوکدنصر کلدانی، پادشاه بابل تسلیم نمود که این خانه را خراب کرد و قوم را به بابل به اسیری برد.

But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, he delivered them into the hands of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon the Chaldean: and he destroyed this house, and carried away the people to Babylon.

۱۳ 13 اما در سال اول کورش پادشاه بابل، همین کورش پادشاه امر فرمود که این خانه خدا را بنا نمایند.

But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon, king Cyrus set forth a decree, that this house of God should be built.

۱۴ 14 و نیز ظروف طلا و نقره خانه خدا که نبوکدنصر آنها را از هیکل اورشلیم گرفته وبه هیکل بابل آورده بود، کورش پادشاه آنها را از هیکل بابل بیرون آورد و به شیشبصرنامی که او را والی ساخته بود، تسلیم نمود.

And the vessels also of gold and silver of the temple of God, which Nabuchodonosor had taken out of the temple, that was in Jerusalem, and had brought them to the temple of Babylon, king Cyrus brought out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered to one Sassabasar, whom also he appointed governor,

۱۵ 15 واو را گفت که این ظروف را برداشته، برو و آنها را به هیکلی که در اورشلیم است ببر و خانه خدا درجایش بنا کرده شود.

And said to him: Take these vessels, and go, and put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be built in its place.

۱۶ 16 آنگاه این شیشبصر آمد وبنیاد خانه خدا را که در اورشلیم است نهاد و از آن زمان تا بحال بنا می‌شود و هنوز تمام نشده است.

Then came this same Sassabasar, and laid the foundations of the temple of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it is in building, and is not yet finished.

۱۷ 17 پس الان اگر پادشاه مصلحت داند، در خزانه پادشاه که در بابل است تفحص کنند که آیا چنین است یا نه که فرمانی از کورش پادشاه صادر شده بود که این خانه خدا در اورشلیم بنا شود و پادشاه مرضی خود را در این امر نزد ما بفرستد.»

Now therefore if it seem good to the king, let him search in the king’s library, which is in Babylon, whether it hath been decreed by Cyrus the king, that the house of God in Jerusalem should be built, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
