1 ੧ ਫੇਰ ਤਿਬਿਰਿਯਾਸ ਕੈਸਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਪੰਦਰਵੇਂ ਸਾਲ ਜਦ ਪੁੰਤਿਯੁਸ ਪਿਲਾਤੁਸ ਯਹੂਦਿਯਾ ਦਾ ਹਾਕਮ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਗਲੀਲ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਭਰਾ ਫ਼ਿਲਿਪੁੱਸ ਇਤੂਰਿਯਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਰਖੋਨੀਤਿਸ ਦੇਸ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੁਸਾਨਿਯੁਸ ਅਬਿਲੇਨੇ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ।

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being Governor of Judaea, Herod Tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip Tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias Tetrarch of Abilene,

2 ੨ ਹੱਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਇਫਾ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਜਾਜਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਕਰਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ।

during the High-priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, a message from God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the Desert.

3 ੩ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਫ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਤੋਬਾ ਦੇ ਬਪਤਿਸਮੇ ਦਾ ਪਰਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।

John went into all the district about the Jordan proclaiming a baptism of the penitent for the forgiveness of sins;

4 ੪ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਨਬੀ ਦੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਕਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼, “ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੋ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਕਰੋ”।

as it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one crying aloud! 'In the Desert prepare ye a road for the Lord: make His highway straight.

5 ੫ ਹਰੇਕ ਘਾਟੀ ਭਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਅਤੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਪਰਬਤ ਅਤੇ ਟਿੱਬਾ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਟੇਡੇ ਮੇਢੇ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਰਦਲੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਧਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ,

Every ravine shall be filled up, and every mountain and hill levelled down, the crooked places shall be turned into straight roads, and the rugged ways into smooth;

6 ੬ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਵੇਖਣਗੇ।

and then shall all mankind see God's salvation.'"

7 ੭ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਭੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਸੱਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਓ! ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਭੱਜਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਸ ਨੇ ਚਿਤਾਵਨੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ?”

Accordingly John used to say to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "O vipers' brood, who has warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

8 ੮ ਸੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤੋਬਾ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਫਲ ਲਿਆਓ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਨਾ ਸੋਚੋ ਕਿ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਸਾਡਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਵੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

Live lives which shall prove your change of heart; and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our forefather,' for I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones.

9 ੯ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਹਾੜਾ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਰੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਉਹ ਵੱਢਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

And even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees, so that every tree which fails to yield good fruit will quickly be hewn down and thrown into the fire."

10 ੧੦ ਤਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਫੇਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਰੀਏ?

The crowds repeatedly asked him, "What then are we to do?"

11 ੧੧ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਦੋ ਕੁੜਤੇ ਹੋਣ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਖਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰੇ।

"Let the man who has two coats," he answered, "give one to the man who has none; and let the man who has food share it with others."

12 ੧੨ ਤਦ ਚੂੰਗੀ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਰੀਏ?

There came also a party of tax-gatherers to be baptized, and they asked him, "Rabbi, what are we to do?"

13 ੧੩ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਸੂਲ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ।

"Do not exact more than the legal amount," he replied.

14 ੧੪ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਕਿ “ਅਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਰੀਏ”? ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਨਾ ਕਰੋ, ਨਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਝੂਠਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਓ ਪਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਨਖਾਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਰੋ।

The soldiers also once and again inquired of him, "And we, what are we to do?" His answer was, "Neither intimidate any one nor lay false charges; and be content with your pay."

15 ੧੫ ਜਦ ਲੋਕ ਮਸੀਹ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਦੀ ਉਡੀਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਮਸੀਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ?

And while the people were in suspense and all were debating in their minds whether John might possibly be the Anointed One,

16 ੧੬ ਤਦ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਇੱਕ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਦਾ ਤਸਮਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਣ ਦੇ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।

he answered the question by saying to them all, "As for me, I am baptizing you with water, but One mightier than I is coming, whose very sandal-strap I am not worthy to unfasten: He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and with fire.

17 ੧੭ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਤੰਗੁਲੀ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੜ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਣਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੋਦਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਮਾਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਤੂੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਅੱਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾੜੇਗਾ ਜਿਹੜੀ ਕਦੇ ਬੁਝਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ।

His winnowing-shovel is in His hand to clear out His threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into His storehouse; but the chaff He will burn up in fire unquenchable."

18 ੧੮ ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਬਥੇਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਸੁਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।

With many exhortations besides these he declared the Good News to the people.

19 ੧੯ ਪਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਹੇਰੋਦਿਯਾਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਬੁਰਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਹੇਰੋਦੇਸ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ

But Herod the Tetrarch, being repeatedly rebuked by him about Herodias his brother's wife, and about all the wicked deeds that he had done,

20 ੨੦ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਜੋ ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੈਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

now added this to crown all the rest, that he threw John into prison.

21 ੨੧ ਜਦ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈ ਹਟੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਵੀ ਬਪਤਿਸਮਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਗਿਆ

Now when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the sky opened,

22 ੨੨ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੇਹ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰ ਕੇ ਘੁੱਗੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਉੱਤਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਵਰਗੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਈ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਖੁਸ਼ ਹਾਂ।

and the Holy Spirit came down in bodily shape, like a dove, upon Him, and a voice came from Heaven, which said, "Thou art My Son, dearly loved: in Thee is My delight."

23 ੨੩ ਯਿਸੂ ਆਪ ਜਦ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੀਹਾਂ ਕੁ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਲੋਕ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਸਨ ਉਹ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਏਲੀ ਦਾ ਸੀ।

And He--Jesus--when He began His ministry, was about thirty years old. He was the son (it was supposed) of Joseph, son of Heli,

24 ੨੪ ਉਹ ਮੱਥਾਤ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਲੇਵੀ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮਲਕੀ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਯੰਨਾਈ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦਾ,

son of Matthat, son of Levi, son of Melchi, son of Jannai, son of Joseph,

25 ੨੫ ਉਹ ਮੱਤਿਥਯਾਹ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਮੋਸ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਨਹੂਮ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਹਸਲੀ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਨੱਗਈ ਦਾ,

son of Mattathias, son of Amos, son of Nahum, son of Esli, son of Naggai,

26 ੨੬ ਉਹ ਮਾਹਥ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਮੱਤਿਥਯਾਹ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਿਮਈ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਯੋਸੇਕ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦਾ,

son of Mahath, son of Mattathias, son of Semein, son of Josech, son of Joda,

27 ੨੭ ਉਹ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਰੇਸਹ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਜ਼ਰੁੱਬਾਬਲ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਅਲਤੀਏਲ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਨੇਰੀ ਦਾ,

son of Johanan, son of Resa, son of Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, son of Neri,

28 ੨੮ ਉਹ ਮਲਕੀ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਅੱਦੀ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਕੋਸਾਮ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਅਲਮੋਦਾਮ ਦਾ, ਉਹ ਏਰ ਦਾ,

son of Melchi, son of Addi, son of Cosam, son of Elmadam, son of Er,
