ਨਿਆਂਈਆਂ 1
1 ੧ ਯਹੋਸ਼ੁਆ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਭਲਾ, ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਯੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੌਣ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ?”
And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?
And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
3 ੩ ਤਦ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਸ਼ਿਮਓਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਕਰੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਦੀ ਵੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ।” ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਿਮਓਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆ।
And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
4 ੪ ਤਦ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਨੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰਿੱਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਜ਼ਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਸ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
5 ੫ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਦੋਨੀ ਬਜ਼ਕ ਨੂੰ ਬਜ਼ਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਭਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰਿੱਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
6 ੬ ਪਰ ਅਦੋਨੀ ਬਜ਼ਕ ਭੱਜ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗੂਠੇ ਵੱਢ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
7 ੭ ਤਦ ਅਦੋਨੀ ਬਜ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਹੱਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਗੂਠੇ ਵੱਢੇ ਹੋਏ ਸੱਤਰ ਰਾਜੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਜ਼ ਦੇ ਹੇਠੋਂ ਟੁੱਕੜੇ ਚੁਗ-ਚੁਗ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਬਦਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।” ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ।
And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their meat] under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
8 ੮ ਤਦ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਸਾੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
9 ੯ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਯਹੂਦੀ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੇ, ਜੋ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਸਨ।
And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
10 ੧੦ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋ ਹਬਰੋਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ, ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆ। ਹਬਰੋਨ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਿਰਯਥ-ਅਰਬਾ ਸੀ। ਉੱਥੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਈ, ਅਹੀਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਮਈ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba: ) and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.)
12 ੧੨ ਤਦ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਰਯਥ-ਸੇਫ਼ਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਵੇ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਅਕਸਾਹ ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ।”
And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
13 ੧੩ ਤਦ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਦੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਭਰਾ ਕਨਜ਼ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਆਥਨੀਏਲ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੀ ਅਕਸਾਹ ਦਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
14 ੧੪ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਅਥਨੀਏਲ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਕਸਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਥੋੜੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਮੰਗੇ। ਫਿਰ ਉਹ ਛੇਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਧੇ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਰੀ, ਤਦ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈਂ?”
And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted down from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
15 ੧੫ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਸ ਦੇ, ਜਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਵੀ ਦਿਉ।” ਤਦ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਨੇ ਉੱਪਰਲੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਹੇਠਲੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ।
And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
16 ੧੬ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੇ ਸਹੁਰੇ ਕੇਨੀ ਦੀ ਸੰਤਾਨ, ਖ਼ਜੂਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਜੰਗਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੋ ਅਰਾਦ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ ਵੱਲ ਹੈ, ਉੱਪਰ ਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਵੱਸ ਗਈ।
And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
17 ੧੭ ਫਿਰ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾ ਸ਼ਿਮਓਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਫ਼ਾਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨਗਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਸ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨਗਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਰਮਾਹ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ।
And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
Also Judah took Gaza with the border thereof, and Ashkelon with the border thereof, and Ekron with the border thereof.
19 ੧੯ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਘਾਟੀ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢ ਸਕਿਆ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਰਥ ਸਨ।
And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out [the inhabitants of] the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
20 ੨੦ ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਾਲੇਬ ਨੂੰ ਹਬਰੋਨ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਨਾਕ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਥੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drave out thence the three sons of Anak.
21 ੨੧ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਯਬੂਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਤੱਕ ਯਬੂਸੀ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ।
And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem: but the Jebusites dwelt with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem, unto this day.
And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el: and the LORD was with them.
And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)
24 ੨੪ ਜਦ ਭੇਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਜੇਕਰ ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੜਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਵਿਖਾਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ।”
And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.
25 ੨੫ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੜਨ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਖਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
And he shewed them the entrance into the city, and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
26 ੨੬ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੂਜ਼ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਇਹੋ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ।
And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
27 ੨੭ ਮਨੱਸ਼ਹ ਨੇ ਬੈਤ ਸ਼ਾਨ, ਤਆਨਾਕ, ਦੋਰ, ਯਿਬਲਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਮਗਿੱਦੋ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਉਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਵੱਸੇ ਰਹੇ।
And Manasseh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beth-shean and her towns, nor [of] Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
28 ੨੮ ਪਰ ਜਦ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਤਕੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਗਾਰੀ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ।
And it came to pass, when Israel was waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.
29 ੨੯ ਇਫ਼ਰਾਈਮ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਗਜ਼ਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਗਜ਼ਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
And Ephraim drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
30 ੩੦ ਜ਼ਬੂਲੁਨ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਤਰੋਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਹਲੋਲ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੇਗਾਰੀ ਕਰਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
Zebulun drave not out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributary.
Asher drave not out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
32 ੩੨ ਸਗੋਂ ਆਸ਼ੇਰੀ ਉਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਵੱਸ ਗਏ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਸੀ।
but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
33 ੩੩ ਨਫ਼ਤਾਲੀ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਬੈਤ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤ ਅਨਾਥ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢਿਆ, ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ, ਜੋ ਉੱਥੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਜਾ ਵੱਸੇ, ਪਰ ਬੈਤ-ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਤ-ਅਨਾਥ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਗਾਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਰਹੇ।
Naphtali drave not out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributary unto them.
And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
35 ੩੫ ਅਮੋਰੀ ਹਰਸ ਦੇ ਪਰਬਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੱਯਾਲੋਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਲਬੀਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਪਰ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਦੇ ਘਰਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਤਕੜਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬਗਾਰ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ,
but the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributary.
And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
