ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ 14
The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
2 ੨ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਫਾਟਕ ਝੋਰਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਕਾਲਿਆਂ ਬਸਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭੋਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਬਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਹਾਂ ਉਤਾਹਾਂ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
Judah mourneth, and her gates languish; they lie grieved on the ground; and the distressed cry of Jerusalem ascendeth upward.
3 ੩ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰੀਫ ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਛੋਟਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਲਈ ਭੇਜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਚੁਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦਾ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਭਾਂਡਿਆਂ ਸਣੇ ਮੁੜ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਕਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਢੱਕ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
And their nobles have sent out their subordinates for water: they come to the pits, they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed and confounded, and cover their head.
4 ੪ ਭੋਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੋ ਤਿੜਕ ਗਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਰਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ, ਹਾਲ੍ਹੀ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਢੱਕ ਲਏ ਹਨ।
Because of the ground which is cracked open, since there hath been no rain in the land, are the ploughmen ashamed, they cover their head.
Yea, the hind also bringeth forth her young in the field, and forsaketh [them], because there is no grass.
6 ੬ ਜੰਗਲੀ ਗਧੇ ਨੰਗੇ ਟਿੱਬਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਹਵਾ ਲਈ ਗਿੱਦੜਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਘੁਰਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹਰਿਆਈ ਹੈ ਨਹੀਂ।
And the wild asses stand on the mountain-tops, they snuff up the wind like serpents: their eyes fail, because there are no herbs.
7 ੭ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਬੁਰਿਆਈਆਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਆਪਣੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਨਮਿੱਤ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੀਆਂ ਹੇਰੀਆਂ-ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਨ, ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ।
If our iniquities testify against us, O Lord, do thou act for the sake of thy name; for our backslidings are many; against thee have we sinned.
8 ੮ ਹੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੀ ਆਸਾ, ਅਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ? ਜਾਂ ਉਸ ਰਾਹੀ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਰਾਤ ਕੱਟਣ ਲਈ ਮੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ?
O thou hope of Israel, his saviour in time of trouble, why shouldst thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfarer that turneth aside to lodge for a night?
9 ੯ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਘਬਰਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਜਾਂ ਉਸ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜੋ ਬਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ? ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਹਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਛੱਡ।
Why shouldst thou be as a man that is surprised, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou art in the midst of us, O Lord, and we are called by thy name: abandon us not.
10 ੧੦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਸ ਪਰਜਾ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, - ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਵਾਰਾ ਫਿਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੋਕਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ, ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਦੀ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਲਵੇਗਾ।
Thus hath said the Lord unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander about, their feet have they not restrained: therefore the Lord doth not receive them in favor; now will he remember their iniquity, and will punish their sins.
Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not in behalf of this people for their good.
12 ੧੨ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਚਿੱਲਾਉਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾਂਗਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਹੋਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਲੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਦੇ ਦੀਆਂ ਭੇਟਾਂ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ, ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਨਾ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ, ਕਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਾ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ!।
When they fast, I will not hear their entreaty: and when they offer burnt-offering and meat-offering, I will not receive them in favor; but by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence, will I make an end of them.
13 ੧੩ ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਿਆ, ਹਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ! ਵੇਖ, ਨਬੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦੇ ਸਨ ਭਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾ ਵੇਖੋਗੇ, ਨਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਕਾਲ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਸਗੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ
Then said I, Ah, Lord Eternal! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but a permanent peace will I give you in this place.
14 ੧੪ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਨਬੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਗੰਮ ਵਾਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੋਲਿਆ। ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਝੂਠੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਣ, ਨਿਕੰਮੇ ਫ਼ਾਲ ਪਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਛਲ ਨਾਲ ਅਗੰਮ ਵਾਕ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ
Then said the Lord unto me, Falsehood do the prophets prophesy in my name; I have not sent them, neither have I commanded them, neither have I spoken unto them: a vision of falsehood, and divination, and idolatrous folly, and the deceit of their heart do they prophesy unto you.
15 ੧੫ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਬੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਗੰਮ ਵਾਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਉਹ ਆਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਵੇਗਾ। ਉਹ ਨਬੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ
Therefore thus hath said the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, when I have not sent them, while they say, Sword and famine shall not come in this land: By the sword and by the famine shall these prophets come to their end.
16 ੧੬ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਅਗੰਮ ਵਾਚਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ। ਉਹ ਕਬਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਨਾ ਜਾਣਗੇ, ਨਾ ਉਹ, ਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ, ਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਨਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ। ਮੈਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਦੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਡੋਲ੍ਹਾਂਗਾ।
And the people to whom they prophesy shall lie cast down in the streets of Jerusalem by means of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters; for I will pour out their wickedness over them.
17 ੧੭ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਆਖ, - ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਰਾਤ-ਦਿਨ ਹੰਝੂ ਵਹਾਉਣਗੀਆਂ, ਉਹ ਨਾ ਥੰਮਣਗੀਆਂ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਦੀ ਕੁਆਰੀ ਧੀ ਵੱਡੇ ਫੱਟ ਨਾਲ ਫੱਟੀ ਗਈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਕਰੜੀ ਮਾਰ ਨਾਲ।
But thou shalt say unto them this word. My eyes shall run down with tears night and day, and they shall not cease; for with a great breach is the virgin-daughter of my people broken, with a very painful blow.
18 ੧੮ ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਖੇਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖ, ਤਲਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਵੱਢੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ! ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੜਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖ, ਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ! ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਨਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਜਕ ਇੱਕ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਿਰਨਗੇ, ਜਿਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ।
If I go forth into the field, behold, there are the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, behold, there are those that are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest travel round into a land that they know not.
19 ੧੯ ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਰੱਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਜਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਸੀਯੋਨ ਤੋਂ ਘਿਣ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਕੁੱਟਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਇਲਾਜ ਨਹੀਂ? ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਡੀਕਿਆ ਪਰ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਹੈ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਰੋਗਤਾ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਪਰ ਵੇਖੋ, ਹੌਲ ਸੀ।
Hast thou entirely rejected Judah? or hath thy soul loathing on Zion? why hast thou smitten us, so that there is no healing for us? we hoped for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold, there is terror!
20 ੨੦ ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਪੁਣਾ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ।
We know, O Lord, our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.
21 ੨੧ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਨਮਿੱਤ ਸਾਡੀ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਨਾ ਕਰ, ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਤਾਪਵਾਨ ਸਿੰਘਾਸਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਰਾਦਰੀ ਨਾ ਕਰ, ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨੇਮ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਨਾ ਤੋੜ।
Do not cast us off, for the sake of thy name, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
22 ੨੨ ਕੀ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫੋਕਟਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਰ੍ਹਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ? ਜਾਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਫੁਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਹੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ, ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ? ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਡੀਕ ਲਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Are there any among the vanities of the nations those that bestow rain? or can the heavens give forth showers? Behold, thou art this, O Lord our God, and we will hope in thee; for thou hast done all these things.
