ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ 11
Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 ੩ ਜਦੋਂ ਬੱਦਲ ਮੀਂਹ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤਾਂ ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਰ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੇ ਕਦੀ ਰੁੱਖ ਦੱਖਣ ਜਾਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਵੱਲ ਡਿੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਰੁੱਖ ਡਿੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
If the clouds be full of rain, they empty [themselves] upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5 ੫ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਹਵਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੱਡੀਆਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਵਧਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
As thou knowest not what [is] the way of the spirit, [nor] how the bones [do grow] in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6 ੬ ਸਵੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬੀ ਬੀਜ, ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਢਿੱਲਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਫਲੇਗਾ, ਇਹ ਜਾਂ ਉਹ, ਜਾਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both [shall be] alike good.
Truly the light [is] sweet, and a pleasant [thing it is] for the eyes to behold the sun:
8 ੮ ਹਾਂ, ਜੇ ਕਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਹੇ, ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਉਹ ਹਨ੍ਹੇਰੇ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੇ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੋਣਗੇ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ!
But if a man live many years, [and] rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh [is] vanity.
9 ੯ ਹੇ ਜੁਆਨ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਜ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਚਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਲੈ ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these [things] God will bring thee into judgment.
10 ੧੦ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਸੁੱਟ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਬਚਪਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹਨ!
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth [are] vanity.
