1 ਸਮੂਏਲ 12
1 ੧ ਫਿਰ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਠਹਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Samuel said to all Israel, "Look, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.
2 ੨ ਹੁਣ ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਹ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ-ਅੱਗੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ਼ ਚਿੱਟੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
Now, look, the king walks before you; and I am old and gray-headed; and look, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth to this day.
3 ੩ ਵੇਖੋ, ਮੈਂ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਹਾਂ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਭਰੋ। ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਬਲ਼ਦ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਦਾ ਗਧਾ ਲਿਆ? ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਧਰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂ ਕਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਮਾਰਿਆ? ਅਤੇ ਕਿਸ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਰਿਸ਼ਵਤ ਲਈ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਣਦੇਖਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ ਦੱਸੋ? ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੋੜ ਦਿਆਂਗਾ।
Here I am. Testify against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, or a shoe? Testify against me, and I will restore it to you."
4 ੪ ਤਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਧਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਨਾ ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਅਨ੍ਹੇਰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
They said, "You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man's hand."
5 ੫ ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਗਵਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਗਵਾਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਿਆ। ਉਹ ਬੋਲੇ, ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਗਵਾਹ ਹੈ।
He said to them, "Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand." They said, "He is witness."
6 ੬ ਫੇਰ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੂਸਾ ਤੇ ਹਾਰੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਓ ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ।
Samuel said to the people, "It is Jehovah who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of Egypt.
7 ੭ ਹੁਣ ਚੁੱਪ ਕਰਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਓ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਭਲਿਆਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ, ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ।
Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers.
8 ੮ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਤਦ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੂਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਰੂਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲਿਆਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਵਸਾਇਆ।
"When Jacob went into Egypt, and the Egyptians oppressed them, and your fathers cried to Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place.
9 ੯ ਫੇਰ ਜਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਸੋਰ ਦੇ ਸੈਨਾਪਤੀ ਸੀਸਰਾ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ, ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜੇ।
"But they forgot Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them.
10 ੧੦ ਫੇਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਅਸੀਂ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਆਲੀਮ ਤੇ ਅਸ਼ਤਾਰੋਥ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪਰ ਜੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਛੁਡਾਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ।
And they cried to Jehovah, and they said, 'We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.'
11 ੧੧ ਫੇਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਯਰੁੱਬਆਲ ਅਤੇ ਬਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਯਿਫ਼ਤਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚੁਫ਼ੇਰੇ ਸਨ, ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸ ਗਏ।
Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Barak, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you lived in safety.
12 ੧੨ ਜਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਨਾਹਾਸ਼ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰੇ, ਜਦ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ
"When you saw that Nahash the king of the people of Ammon came against you, you said to me, 'No, but a king shall reign over us;' when Jehovah your God was your king.
13 ੧੩ ਹੁਣ ਵੇਖੋ, ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚੁਣ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਠਹਿਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।
Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have asked for: and look, Jehovah has set a king over you.
14 ੧੪ ਜੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਡਰਦੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ, ਉਹ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰੋਗੇ, ਉਹ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਮੰਨੋਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਨਾ ਕਰੋਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਚੱਲਦੇ ਜਾਓਗੇ।
If you will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of Jehovah your God, then he will rescue you.
15 ੧੫ ਪਰ ਜੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਬਚਨ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੋਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਕਰੋਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ।
But if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then the hand of Jehovah will be against you, and against your king to destroy you.
"Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes.
17 ੧੭ ਕੀ, ਅੱਜ ਕਣਕ ਵੱਢਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ? ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਕਾਰਾਂਗਾ ਜੋ ਬੱਦਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਘੱਲੇ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣੋ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ, ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਮੰਗਣ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਪਾਪ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
Isn't it wheat harvest today? I will call to Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and you shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking for a king."
18 ੧੮ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਗਰਜਣ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਮੀਂਹ ਭੇਜਿਆ। ਤਦ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਡਰ ਗਏ।
So Samuel called to Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel.
19 ੧੯ ਤਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਰ ਨਾ ਜਾਈਏ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਇਹ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਰਾਜਾ ਮੰਗਿਆ!
All the people said to Samuel, "Pray for your servants to Jehovah your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask us a king."
20 ੨੦ ਤਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਡਰੋ ਨਹੀਂ! ਇਹ ਸਭ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਚੱਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਫਿਰ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਾ ਮੁੜਿਓ, ਸਗੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰੋ।
Samuel said to the people, "Do not be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet do not turn aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart.
21 ੨੧ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਗਰ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਾ ਹਟੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਲਾਭ ਜਾਂ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਭ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ,
Do not turn aside to go after vain things which can't profit nor deliver, for they are vain.
22 ੨੨ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਦਾ ਤਿਆਗ ਨਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name's sake, because it has pleased Jehovah to make you a people to himself.
23 ੨੩ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਾਂ। ਸਗੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਰਾਹ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਰਹਾਂਗਾ ਜੋ ਭਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਹੈ।
Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.
24 ੨੪ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਮੰਨੋ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੱਚੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕਰੋ। ਧਿਆਨ ਕਰੋ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿੰਨੇ ਵੱਡੇ-ਵੱਡੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ।
Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
But if you shall still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king."
