< Zakkaariyaas 1 >

1 Bara Daariyoos keessa, jiʼa saddeettaffaa waggaa lammaffaatti dubbiin Waaqayyoo akkana jedhee gara Zakkaariyaas raajicha ilma Berekiyaa, ilma Iddoo dhufe:
The Lord sent a message to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berekiah, son of Iddo, in the eighth month of the second year of king Darius' reign, saying:
2 “Waaqayyo akka malee abbootii keessanitti aaree ture.
The Lord was very angry with your forefathers.
3 Kanaafuu akkana jedhii sabatti himi; Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkana jedha; ‘Gara kootti deebiʼaa’ jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu; ‘Anis gara keessanitti nan deebiʼaa’ jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
So tell the people this: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord Almighty.
4 Isin akka abbootii keessan kanneen raajonni durii, Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu, ‘Karaa keessan hamaa fi gochawwan keessan hamaa sana irraa deebiʼaa’ jedha, jedhanii itti lallaban sanaa hin taʼinaa. Isaan garuu hin dhaggeeffatan yookaan na hin qalbeeffatan, jedha Waaqayyo.
You must not be like your forefathers. They were told by previous prophets: Give up your evil ways, and the evil things you do. But they would not listen or pay any attention to me, says the Lord.
5 Abbootiin keessan amma eessa jiru? Raajonnis bara baraan jiraatuu?
Where are your forefathers now? And the prophets, did they live forever?
6 Garuu dubbiin koo fi seerri koo kan ani tajaajiltoota koo raajota ajaje sun abbootii keessan irra hin geenyee? “Ergasii isaan qalbii jijjiirratanii, ‘Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkuma gochuuf murteesse sanatti waan karaa keenyaa fi gochawwan keenyaaf malu nutti godhe’ jedhan.”
But didn't all my instructions and warnings that I ordered my servants the prophets to communicate, didn't all that I said happen to your forefathers? So they repented and said, “What the Lord Almighty planned to do to us was what we deserved because of our ways and our actions. He did what he said he would.”
7 Bara Daariyoos keessa, waggaa lammaffaatti, bultii afuraffaa jiʼa kudha tokkoffaa, jiʼa Shebaaxi jedhamu keessa dubbiin Waaqayyoo gara Zakkaariyaas raajichaa ilma Berekiyaa, ilma Iddoo dhufe.
The Lord sent a message to Zechariah the prophet, son of Berekiah, son of Iddo, on the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month (the month of Shebat) of the second year of king Darius' reign:
8 Ani halkan keessa mulʼataan namicha farda diimaa yaabbatu tokko fuula koo duratti nan arge! Innis mukkeen kusaayee kanneen laga keessaa gidduu dhaabatee ture. Dugda isaa duubaan fardeen diddiimoo, mammagaallanii fi adaadiitu ture.
During the night I saw a man sitting on a red horse that stood among some myrtle trees in a narrow valley. Behind him were red, brown, and white horses with their riders.
9 Anis, “Yaa gooftaa ko, wantoonni kunneen maali!” jedheen gaafadhe. Ergamaan Waaqayyoo kan natti dubbachaa tures, “Isaan maal akka taʼan ani sin argisiisa” naan jedhe.
I asked him, “My lord, what are these?” The angel I was talking to replied, “I will show you.”
10 Kana irratti namichi mukkeen kusaayee gidduu dhaabatee jiru sun, “Kunneen warra akka isaan guutummaa lafaa keessa deemaniif Waaqayyo ergee dha” jedhee naa ibse.
The man who was there among the myrtle trees said, “These are the ones the Lord has sent out to patrol the earth.”
11 Isaanis, “Nu lafa guutuu irra naannofnee akka lafti guutuun boqonnaa fi nagaa qabdu argine” jedhanii ergamaa Waaqayyoo kan mukkeen kusaayee gidduu dhaabate sanatti himan.
The riders reported to the angel of the Lord who was among the myrtle trees, “We have been patrolling the earth and saw that the whole earth has been pacified.”
12 Ergamaan Waaqayyoos, “Yaa Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandeessu, ati Yerusaalemii fi magaalaawwan Yihuudaa kanneen waggoota torbaatama itti aarteef hamma yoomiitti hin araaramtu?” jedhe.
Then the angel of the Lord said, “Lord Almighty, how long will it be before you have mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah which you have been angry with for the past seventy years?”
13 Waaqayyos dubbii gaarii fi dubbii jajjabeessuun ergamaa Waaqayyoo kan na wajjin dubbachaa ture sanatti dubbate.
So the Lord replied to the angel I was talking to with kind and comforting words.
14 Ergasii ergamaan Waaqayyoo kan natti dubbachaa ture sun akkana jedhe; “Dubbii kana labsi: Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkana jedha; ‘Ani Yerusaalemii fi Xiyooniif akka malee nan hinaafa;
Then the angel I was talking with told me, This is what you are to announce. The Lord Almighty says this: I am jealously protective of Jerusalem and Mount Zion,
15 ani garuu saboota waan nagaa qaban of seʼanitti akka malee aareera. Ani xinnuma aareen ture; isaan garuu ittuma fufanii hamaa hojjetan.’
and I am extremely angry with the arrogant nations who think they are secure. I was only a little angry with my people, but they made the punishment far worse.
16 “Kanaafuu Waaqayyo akkana jedha: ‘Ani araaraan Yerusaalemitti nan deebiʼa; manni koos deebifamee ni ijaarama. Funyoon ittiin safaranis Yerusaalem irra ni diriirfama’ jedha Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu.
Therefore this is what the Lord says: I have returned to be merciful to Jerusalem. My Temple shall be rebuilt there, as well as the city, declares the Lord Almighty.
17 “Ammas ittuma fufiitii Waaqayyo Waan Hunda Dandaʼu akkana jedha, jedhii labsi: ‘Magaalaawwan koo deebiʼanii badhaadhummaadhaan ni guutamu; Waaqayyos Xiyoonin ni jajjabeessa; Yerusaalemis ni filata.’”
Announce this as well, says the Lord Almighty: Prosperity will flood out of my cities. I the Lord will comfort Zion, and Jerusalem will be my chosen city.
18 Ammas ol nan milʼadhe; kunoo, fuula koo dura gaanfa afurtu ture!
Then I looked and saw four animal horns.
19 Anis, “Kun maali?” jedheen ergamaa Waaqayyoo kan natti dubbachaa ture sana gaafadhe. Innis, “Kunneen gaanfawwan Yihuudaa, Israaʼelii fi Yerusaalemin gargar bittinneessanii dha” jedhee naaf deebise.
“What are these?” I asked the angel I was talking to. “These are the horns that scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem,” he replied.
20 Waaqayyos ergasii ogeeyyii hojii harkaa afur na argisiise.
Then the Lord showed me four craftsmen.
21 Anis, “Isaan kunneen maal hojjechuuf dhufan?” jedheen gaafadhe. Innis akkana jedhee deebise; “Isaan kunneen gaanfawwan akka namni tokko mataa isaa ol hin qabanneef Yihuudaa bittinneessanii dha; ogeeyyiin hojii harkaa kunneen garuu isaan rifachiisuu fi gaanfawwan saboota uummata ishee bittinneessuuf gaanfawwan isaanii biyya Yihuudaatti ol fudhatan kanneenii balleessuuf dhufan.”
“What are these men coming to do?” I asked. The angel replied, “The four horns—these nations—scattered Judah, humbling the people so that they could not lift up their heads. These craftsmen have to come to terrify these nations, and to destroy them—those who used their power against the land of Judah, scattering the people.”
