1 Gaaf tokko Naaʼomiin haati dhirsa ishee akkana isheedhaan jette; “Yaa intala ko, ani akka ati itti boqottuuf mana mijaaʼaa siif barbaaduu hin qabuu?
One day, Naomi said to Ruth, “My daughter, should I not seek to secure a home for you where you will be happy and prosperous?
2 Boʼeez namichi ati tajaajiltoota isaa dubarran sana wajjin turte sun fira keenya mitii? Inni edana oobdiitti garbuu qulleeffata.
Is not Boaz, with whose girls you have been, a relative of ours?
3 Kanaafuu dhidhiqadhuutii shittoo dibadhu; uffata kee isa bareedaa illee uffadhu. Ergasiis gara oobdichaa dhaqi; inni garuu hamma nyaatee dhugee raawwatutti akka ati achi jirtu hin beekin.
Tonight he is going to winnow barley on the threshing-floor. So bathe and anoint yourself and put on your best clothes and go down to the threshing-floor. But do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.
4 Yeroo inni rafutti iddoo inni rafe hubadhu. Ergasii dhaqiitii wayyaa miilla isaa irraa saaqii ciisi. Innis waan ati gochuu qabdu sitti hima.”
Then when he lies down, mark the place where he lies. Go in, uncover his feet, lie down, and then he will tell you what to do.”
5 Ruutis, “Ani waan ati jettu hunda nan godha” jettee deebifte.
“I will do as you say.” Ruth said to her.
6 Kanaafuu Ruut gara oobdii sanaatti gad buutee waan haati dhirsa ishee godhi jetteen hundumaa goote.
So she went down to the threshing-floor and did just as her mother-in-law told her.
7 Boʼeezis erga nyaatee dhugee gammadee booddee achi fagaatee tuulaa midhaanii bira rafuu dhaqe. Ruutis suuta jettee dhaqxee miilla isaa irraa wayyaa saaqxee rafte.
When Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in a happy mood, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then Ruth came quietly and uncovered his feet and lay down.
8 Halkan walakkaatti wanni tokko namicha rifachiise; innis yommuu of irra garagalee ilaaletti dubartii miilla isaa jala ciiftu tokko arge.
At midnight the man was startled and turned over, and there was a woman lying at his feet!
9 Innis, “Ati eenyu?” jedhee gaafate. Isheenis, “Ana Ruut tajaajiltuu kee ti. Ati sababii na dhaaluuf fira dhiʼoo taateef handaara wayyaa keetii narra buusi” jetteen.
“Who are you?” he said. “I am Ruth your servant,” she answered, “Spread your cloak over your servant, for you are a near relative.”
10 Innis deebisee akkana jedheen; “Yaa intala too, Waaqayyo si haa eebbisu; arjummaan kun arjummaa ati kanaan dura goote sana caala; ati dargaggeessa yookaan sooressa yookaan hiyyeessa faana hin deemneetii.
He said, “May you be blest by the Lord, my daughter. You have shown me greater favor now than at first, for you have not followed young men, whether poor or rich.
11 Ammas yaa intala koo hin sodaatin. Ani waan ati gaafattu hunda siif nan godha. Sabni magaalaa koo keessa jiraatu hundi akka ati dubartii amala gaarii qabdu taate ni beeka.
My daughter, have no fear. I will do for you all that you ask, for the whole town knows that you are a virtuous woman.
12 Akka ani fira dhiʼoo taʼe beekamaa dha; taʼus namni dhaaluudhaaf ana caalaa fira dhiʼoo taʼe jira.
Now it is true that I am a near relative, but there is another man nearer than I.
13 Asuma buli; bori ganama namichi yoo si dhaaluu barbaade gaarii dha; inni si haa dhaalu. Yoo inni si dhaaluu hin barbaanne garuu dhugaa Waaqayyo jiraataa, ani sin dhaala. Hamma lafti bariitutti asuma ciisi.”
Stay here tonight, and then in the morning, if he will perform for you the duty of a kinsman, well, let him do it. But if he will not perform for you the duty of a kinsman, then as surely as the Lord lives, I will do it for you. Lie down until morning.”
14 Kanaafuu isheen hamma lafti bariitutti miilla isaa jala ciifte; garuu utuu namni tokko iyyuu hin beekin dursitee kaate; Boʼeez, “Dubartiin gara oobdii kanaa dhufuun ishee beekamuu hin qabu” jedheeraatii.
So she lay at his feet until morning, but rose before anyone could recognize her, for Boaz said, “No one must know that a woman came to the threshing-floor.”
15 Akkasumas, “Wayyaa irraan uffatte ofi irraa fuudhii diriirsii qabi” jedheen. Isheenis ni diriirsite; inni garbuu safartuu jaʼa safaree ishee baachise. Ergasiis gara magaalaatti deebite.
He also said, “Bring the cloak which you have on and hold it.” So she held it while he poured into it six measures of barley and laid it on her shoulders. Then he went into the city.
16 Yommuu Ruut gara haadha dhirsa isheetti deebitetti Naaʼomiin, “Yaa intala ko, wanni sun akkam taʼe?” jettee ishee gaafatte. Isheenis waan Boʼeez isheef godhe hunda itti himte;
When Ruth came to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked, “Is it you, my daughter?” Then Ruth told Naomi all that the man had done for her.
17 itti dabaltees, “‘Gara haadha dhirsa keetti harka duwwaa hin deebiʼin’ jedhee garbuu safartuu jaʼaa kana naa kenne” jetteen.
“He gave me these six measures of barley,” she said, “for he said I should not go to my mother-in-law empty-handed.”
18 Naaʼomiin immoo, “Yaa intala ko, hamma waan dhufu argitutti obsi. Namichi hamma dubbiin kun harʼa fala argatutti hin boqotu” isheedhaan jette.
“Wait quietly, my daughter.” Naomi said, “Until you know how the affair will turn out, for the man will not rest unless he settles it all today.”
