1 Ogummaan hin iyyuu? Hubannaanis sagalee isaa ol hin fudhatuu?
Isn't wisdom calling? Isn't understanding raising her voice?
2 Isheen qarqara karaa, lafa ol kaʼaa irra, iddoo daandiin itti wal gaʼu dhaabatti;
On the top of the hill by the road, she stands up at the crossroads.
3 karra magaalaatti nama galchu bira, balbala dura dhaabattee akkana jettee iyyiti:
Beside the gates of the town, right there at the entrance, she cries out:
4 “Yaa namoota, ani iyyeen isin waama; ani ilmaan namaa hundatti sagalee koo ol nan fudhadha.
“I'm calling out to you, everyone! My call is to everyone in the whole world!
5 Isin warri homaa hin beekne, qalbii horadhaa; isin warri gowwaan hubannaa argadhaa.
If you're immature, learn how to grow up. If you're stupid, learn what makes good sense.
6 Ani waan faayidaa qabu nan dubbadhaatii, dhagaʼaa; waan qajeelaa dubbachuufis afaan koo nan banadha.
Listen to me because I have valuable things to explain to you.
7 Afaan koo dhugaa dubbata; arrabni koo hammina jibbaatii.
I say what's right, because I tell the truth and I hate wickedness in all its forms.
8 Dubbiin afaan koo hundinuu qajeelaa dha; dubbii koo keessaa tokko iyyuu jalʼaa yookaan micciiramaa miti.
All the words I say are true; none are false or misleading.
9 Nama waa hubatuuf dubbiin koo hundinuu qajeelaa dha; warra beekumsa qabuufis hirʼina hin qabu.
My words are straightforward to anyone with understanding; they are correct to those who have knowledge.
10 Qooda meetii gorsa koo, warqee qulqulluu caalaas beekumsa filadhu;
Choose my instruction over silver; choose knowledge over pure gold.
11 ogummaan lula diimaa caalaa gatii guddaa qabdii; wanni ati hawwitu tokko iyyuu isheedhaan wal hin madaalu.
For wisdom is more valuable than rubies; everything you could ever want just doesn't compare!
12 “Ani ogummaan, qalbii wajjin nan jiraadha; ani beekumsaa fi hubannaa qaba.
I, wisdom, am at home with good decisions. I know how to find knowledge and discernment.
13 Waaqayyoon sodaachuun jibbuu dha; hammina ani of tuulummaa fi of guddisuu, amala hamaa fi haasaa jalʼaa nan jibba.
Honoring the Lord means hating evil. So I hate pride and arrogance, wicked behavior and telling lies.
14 Gorsaa fi murtiin dhugaa kan koo ti; ani hubannaa fi humna qaba.
I have advice and good judgment; I know what makes sense, and I have power.
15 Mootonni anaan moʼu; bulchitoonnis anaan seera qajeelaa baasu.
It's because of me that kings reign, and rulers issue fair decrees.
16 Ilmaan moototaa anaan bulchu; namoonni bebeekamoon hundis anaan biyya bulchu.
It's because of me that leaders and nobles govern—all who rule justly.
17 Ani warra na jaallatan nan jaalladha; warri na barbaadanis na argatu.
I love those who love me, and those who really look for me will find me.
18 Soorumnii fi ulfinni, qabeenyii fi badhaadhummaan dhuma hin qabne harkuma koo jiru.
With me go riches and honor, lasting wealth and prosperity.
19 Iji koo warqee qulqulluu caala; buʼaan narraa argamus meetii filatamaa caala.
The fruit I produce is better than gold, even pure gold, and my harvest is better than even the best silver.
20 Ani karaa qajeelummaa irra, daandii qajeelaa irras nan deema;
I live in a way that's right; I follow the paths of justice.
21 warra na jaallatutti qabeenya nan dhangalaasa; mankuusa qabeenya isaanii illee nan guuta.
I grant wealth to those who love me; I fill their treasure storehouses.
22 “Waaqayyo waan bara durii hojjeteen dura, hojii isaa kan jalqabaatiin dura na aanfate;
The Lord created me first of all; I was made before anything else.
23 ani utuu addunyaan hin uumamin dura, jalqabumatti, bara hamma hin qabneen dura nan muudame.
I was formed a long time ago, at the first, before the world began.
24 Ani utuu tuujubni hin jiraatin, utuu burqaawwan bishaaniin hin guutamin dhaladhe;
I was born when there were no ocean depths, when there were no springs pouring out water.
25 utuu tulluuwwan iddoo isaanii hin dhaabamin dura, ani gaarraniin dura nan dhaladhe;
I was born before the mountains or the hills had been formed,
26 utuu inni lafa yookaan dirree ishee yookaan biyyoo addunyaa tokko iyyuu hin uumin dura nan dhaladhe.
when he hadn't made the earth and its fields or any of the earth's dust.
27 Yeroo inni samiiwwan hundeessetti, yeroo inni dhidhima irra muummee kaaʼetti ani achin ture;
I was there when he placed the heavens in position, when he drew the horizon over the ocean,
28 yeroo inni gubbaatti duumessa jabeessee dhaabee madda tuujubaa illee hundeessetti ani achin ture;
when he made the clouds in the sky above, when he created the springs of the oceans,
29 yeroo inni akka bishaanonni ajaja isaa hin cabsineef jedhee, galaanaaf daangaa dhaabetti, yeroo inni lafa hundeessetti ani achin ture.
when he set limits on the sea so that the waters would not go farther than he ordered, and when he laid out the foundations of the earth.
30 Yeroo sanatti ani ogeessa hojii harkaa taʼee isa biran ture. Ani yeroo hunda fuula isaa dura burraaqaa, guyyuma guyyaadhaan gammachuudhaan guutamaan ture;
Then I was beside him as a master craftsman. I made him happy every day, and I was always full of joy in his presence.
31 ani guutummaa addunyaa isaa keessatti ililchaa, ilmaan namaatti illee gammadaan ture.
I was so happy in the world he created, celebrating together with human beings.
32 “Eegaa yaa ilmaan ko, mee na dhagaʼaa; warri karaa koo eegan eebbifamoo dha.
And now, my sons, listen to me, for happy are those who follow my ways.
33 Gorsa koo dhaggeeffadhaatii ogeeyyii taʼaa; isa hin tuffatinaa.
Listen to my instruction and be wise—do not reject it.
34 Namni na dhagaʼu, kan guyyaa hunda balbala koo eegu, kan karra koo dura turu eebbifamaa dha.
Happy are those who listen to me, watching for me every day at my doors, waiting at my entrance way.
35 Namni na argatu kam iyyuu jireenya argata; Waaqayyo biratti illee fudhatama argata.
For those who find me, find life, and are accepted by the Lord.
36 Namni na hin arganne garuu ofuma miidha; namni na jibbu hundinuu duʼa jaallata.”
But those who don't find me hurt themselves; everyone who hates me loves death.”
