1 Namni ifannaa baayʼee booddee mataa jabaatu kam iyyuu akkuma tasaa caba; hin fayyus.
He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.
2 Yommuu namni qajeelaan aangoo qabatutti, sabni ni ililcha; yommuu namni hamaan bulchu garuu sabni ni guunguma.
When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
3 Namni ogummaa jaallatu abbaa isaa gammachiisa; miiltoon sagaagaltuu garuu qabeenya isaa barbadeessa.
Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.
4 Mootiin murtii qajeelaadhaan biyyaaf nagaa buusa; kan mattaʼaaf gaggabu immoo biyya gargar qoqqooda.
The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.
5 Namni ollaa isaa jaju, miilluma isaatiif kiyyoo kaaʼa.
A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.
6 Namni hamaan cubbuu ofii isaatiin qabama; qajeelaan garuu ni faarfata; ni ililchas.
An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.
7 Namni qajeelaan mirga hiyyeessaatiif dhaabata; namni hamaan garuu dhimma akkanaa hin qabu.
The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked are not concerned about knowledge.
8 Qoostonni magaalaa jeequ; ogeeyyiin garuu aarii qabbaneessu.
Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.
9 Yoo ogeessi gowwaa wajjin mana murtii dhaqe, gowwaan sun ni aara yookaan ni kolfa; nagaanis hin jiraatu.
If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.
10 Namoonni dhiiga dheebotan, nama amanamaa jibbu; nama tolaas ajjeesuu barbaadu.
The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.
11 Gowwaan guutumaan guutuutti aariitti of kenna; ogeessi garuu of qaba.
A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.
12 Yoo bulchaan tokko soba dhaggeeffate, qondaaltonni isaa hundi ni hammaatu.
If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.
13 Hiyyeessaa fi namni nama cunqursu waan kanaan wal fakkaatu: Waaqayyo ija lachan isaaniitiifuu agartuu kenna.
The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.
14 Yoo mootiin tokko wal qixxummaadhaan hiyyeeyyiif murtii kenne, teessoon isaa bara baraan jabaatee dhaabata.
The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.
15 Ulee fi ifannaan ogummaa kennu; daaʼimni akkasumatti gad dhiifame garuu haadha isaa salphisa.
The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.
16 Yommuu hamoonni aangoo qabatan, cubbuutu baayʼata; qajeeltonni garuu kufaatii jaraa argu.
When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.
17 Ilma kee adabadhu, inni nagaa siif kenna; lubbuu kees ni gammachiisa.
Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul.
18 Iddoo mulʼanni hin jirretti sabni gad dhiisii taʼa; namni seera eegu garuu eebbifamaa dha.
Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.
19 Garbichi dubbii afaanii qofaan hin sirreeffamu; inni yoo hubate illee deebii hin kennuutii.
A servant cannot be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond.
20 Ati nama jarjarsuun dubbatu argitee? Isa irra gowwaatu abdii caalu qaba.
Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
21 Nama garbicha ofii isaa ijoollummaa isaatii jalqabee qanansiisu, galgalli isaa rakkina.
He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.
22 Namni aaru lola kakaasa; kan dafee aarus cubbuu hedduu hojjeta.
An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin.
23 Of tuulummaan namaa isuma gad deebisa; namni hafuuraan gad of qabu garuu ulfina argata.
A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.
24 Namni hattuu wajjin qooddatu lubbuu ofii isaa jibba; inni ni kakata; garuu waan tokko illee hin himu.
Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify.
25 Nama sodaachuun kiyyoo namatti taʼa; kan Waaqayyoon amanatu garuu nagaadhaan jiraata.
The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the LORD is kept safe.
26 Namni hedduun bulchaa biratti surraa argachuu barbaada; murtiin qajeelaan garuu Waaqayyo biraa dhufa.
Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man’s justice comes from the LORD.
27 Qajeelaan sobduu xireeffata; hamaan immoo nama tolaa jibba.
A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.
