< Fakkeenya 24 >

1 Hamootatti hin hinaafin; garee isaanii taʼuus hin hawwin;
Do not imitate evil men, nor desire to be among them.
2 garaan isaanii hammina malataatii; hidhiin isaaniis rakkina odeessa.
For their mind meditates on robberies, and their lips speak deceptions.
3 Manni ogummaadhaan ijaarama; hubannaadhaanis jabeeffamee dhaabama;
By wisdom shall a house be built, and by prudence shall it be strengthened.
4 kutaawwan isaas, beekumsaan, qabeenya gatii guddaatii fi miidhagaadhaan guutamu.
By doctrine, the storerooms shall be filled with every substance that is precious and most beautiful.
5 Ogeessi humna guddaa qaba; beekaan namaa immoo jabina itti dabalata;
A wise man is strong, and a well-taught man is robust and valiant.
6 waraana banuuf qajeelfama, moʼannaa argachuudhaaf immoo gorsitoota hedduu si barbaachisa.
For war is undertaken in an orderly manner, and safety shall be where there are many counsels.
7 Gowwaa irraa ogummaan akka malee ol fagoo dha; inni karra duratti afaan isaa hin saaqqatu.
Wisdom is beyond the foolish; at the gate he will not open his mouth.
8 Namni hammina malu, “Maltee” jedhama.
Whoever intends to do evil shall be called foolish.
9 Malli gowwummaa cubbuu dha; namoonnis qoostuu ni balfu.
The intention of the foolish is sin. And the detractor is an abomination among men.
10 Ati yoo gaafa rakkinaa laafte, jabinni kee dhugumaanuu xinnaa dha!
If you despair, being weary in the day of anguish, your strength will be diminished.
11 Warra gara duʼaatti geeffamaa jiran duʼa jalaa baasi; warra ajjeefamuuf qopheeffamanis oolchi.
Rescue those who are led away to death. And do not cease from delivering those who are dragged away to a violent death.
12 Yoo ati, “Nu waan kana homaa hin beekne” jette, inni yaada namaa madaalu sun hin hubatuu? Kan lubbuu kee eegu sun waan kana hin beekuu? Inni nama hundaaf akkuma hojii isaatti gatii hin kennuu?
If you would say: “I do not have sufficient strength.” He who inspects the heart, the same one understands, and nothing slips past the one who preserves your soul. And he shall repay a man according to his works.
13 Yaa ilma ko, dammi waan gaarii taʼeef nyaadhu; nadhiin dammaa sitti ni miʼaawa.
My son, eat honey, because it is good, and the honeycomb, because it is so sweet to your throat.
14 Akka ogummaan lubbuu keetti miʼaawu illee beeki; ati yoo isa argatte fuul duratti abdii qabda; abdiin kees hin citu.
So, too, is the doctrine of wisdom to your soul. When you have found it, you will have hope in the end, and your hope shall not perish.
15 Akka nama seeraan hin bulleetti mana nama qajeelaa riphxee hin eeggatin; mana jireenya isaas hin saamin.
Do not lie in wait, and do not seek impiety in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.
16 Namni qajeelaan yeroo torba kufu iyyuu, deebiʼee ni kaʼaatii; namni hamaan garuu yeroo balaan itti dhufutti ni gufata.
For the just one will fall seven times, and he shall rise again. But the impious will fall into evil.
17 Yeroo diinni kee kufutti hin ililchin; yeroo inni gufatuttis garaan kee hin gammadin;
When your enemy will fall, do not be glad, and do not let your heart exult in his ruin,
18 yoo kanaa achii Waaqayyo waan kanatti ni gaddaatii; dheekkamsa isaas isa irraa deebisa.
lest perhaps the Lord see, and it displease him, and he may take away his wrath from him.
19 Ati sababii jalʼootaatiif aariidhaan hin gubatin; hamootattis hin hinaafin.
Do not contend with the most wicked, and do not be a rival to the impious.
20 Namni jalʼaan fuul duratti abdii hin qabuutii; ibsaan hamootaas ni dhaama.
For the evil hold no hope in the future, and the lamp of the impious will be extinguished.
21 Yaa ilma ko, Waaqayyoo fi mootii sodaadhu; finciltootattis hin makamin;
My son, fear the Lord, as well as the king. And do not mingle with detractors.
22 badiisni akkuma tasaa isaanitti dhufaatii; balaa isaan lachuu fidan eenyutu beeka?
For their perdition shall rise up suddenly. And who knows what ruin will be for each of them?
23 Kunneenis jechoota ogeessaa ti: Murtii kennuu irratti nama wal caalchisuun gaarii miti:
Likewise, these things are for the wise. It is not good to base judgment on knowledge of character.
24 Kan nama yakka qabuun, “Ati balleessaa hin qabdu” jedhu kam iyyuu namni isa abaara; sabnis isa balaaleffata.
Those who say to the impious, “You are just,” shall be cursed by the people, and the tribes shall detest them.
25 Warri nama yakka hojjetu ifatan garuu ni gammadu; eebbi guddaanis ni dhufaaf.
Those who argue against the impious shall be praised, and a blessing shall come upon them.
26 Deebiin qajeelaan, akkuma hidhii dhungachuu ti.
He shall kiss the lips, who responds with upright words.
27 Hojii kee kan diidaa raawwadhuutii lafa qotiisaa kees qopheeffadhu; ergasii mana kee ijaarradhu.
Prepare your outdoor work, and diligently cultivate your field, so that afterward, you may build your house.
28 Sababii tokko malee ollaa keetti dhugaa hin baʼin yookaan hidhii keetiin hin gowwoomsin.
Do not be a witness without cause against your neighbor. And do not mislead anyone with your lips.
29 Ati, “Waanuma inni na godhe anis isa nan godha; waan inni hojjeteefis gatii isaa nan deebisa” hin jedhin.
Do not say, “I will do to him as he has done to me.” I will repay each one according to his work.
30 Ani lafa qotiisaa nama dhibaaʼaa keessa baʼee, iddoo dhaabaa wayinii nama qalbii hin qabnee keessas darbe;
I passed by the field of a lazy man, and by the vineyard of a foolish man,
31 qoraattiin lafa hunda guuteera; laftis aramaadhaan fudhatameera; dallaan dhagaas diigameera.
and behold, it was entirely filled with nettles, and thorns had covered its surface, and the stonewall was destroyed.
32 Ani argeen waan sana qalbeeffadhe; waanan arge sana irraas barumsa nan argadhe:
When I had seen this, I laid it up in my heart, and by this example, I received discipline.
33 hirriba xinnaa; mugaatii xinnaa; xinnoo harka walitti marachuu;
You will sleep a little,” I said. “You will slumber briefly. You will fold your hands a little, so as to rest.
34 hiyyummaanis akkuma hattuutti, deegummaanis akkuma loltuu hidhateetti sitti dhufa.
And destitution will overtake you like a runner, and begging will overtake you like an armed man.”
