Fakkeenya 10
1 Fakkeenyawwan Solomoon: Ilmi ogeessi abbaa isaa gammachiisa; ilmi gowwaan garuu haadha isaa gaddisiisa.
Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son causes a father to rejoice, And a foolish son [is] an affliction to his mother.
2 Qabeenyi karaa hamaadhaan horatan gatii hin qabu; qajeelummaan garuu duʼa jalaa nama baasa.
Treasures of wickedness do not profit, And righteousness delivers from death.
3 Waaqayyo akka warri qajeelaan beelaʼan hin eeyyamu; hawwii jalʼootaa garuu ni busheessa.
YHWH does not cause the soul of the righteous to hunger, And He thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 Harki hojii hin hojjenne nama hiyyoomsa; harki jabaatee hojii hojjetu garuu nama sooromsa.
Poor [is] he who is working [with] a slothful hand, And the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 Namni yeroo bonaa midhaan walitti qabatu ilma ogeessa; kan yeroo midhaan galfamutti rafu immoo ilma nama qaanessuu dha.
Whoever is gathering in summer [is] a wise son, Whoever is sleeping in harvest [is] a son causing shame.
6 Eebbi mataa qajeeltotaatti gonfoo kaaʼa; afaan hamootaa irra garuu jeequmsatu lolaʼa.
Blessings [are] for the head of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
7 Yaadannoon nama qajeelaa eebba taʼa; maqaan nama hamaa garuu lafa irraa bada.
The remembrance of the righteous [is] for a blessing, And the name of the wicked rots.
8 Namni garaa isaatti ogeessa taʼe ajaja fudhata; gowwaan oduu baayʼisu garuu ni bada.
The wise in heart accepts commands, And a talkative fool kicks.
9 Namni amanamaan sodaa malee deema; kan karaa isaa jalʼisu garuu ni saaxilama.
Whoever is walking in integrity walks confidently, And whoever is perverting his ways is known.
10 Namni ija hamminaatiin waa namaan jedhu rakkoo uuma; gowwaan oduu baayʼisu garuu ni bada.
Whoever is winking the eye gives grief, And a talkative fool kicks.
11 Afaan nama qajeelaa burqaa jireenyaa ti; afaan hamootaa irra garuu jeequmsatu lolaʼa.
A fountain of life [is] the mouth of the righteous, And the mouth of the wicked covers violence.
12 Jibbi lola kakaasa; jaalalli garuu balleessaa hunda haguuga.
Hatred awakens contentions, And love covers over all transgressions.
13 Ogummaan hidhii nama waa hubatuu irratti argamti; uleen immoo dirra nama hubannaa hin qabnee irra buʼa.
Wisdom is found in the lips of the intelligent, And a rod [is] for the back of him who is lacking understanding.
14 Namoonni ogeeyyiin beekumsa kuufatu; afaan gowwaa garuu badiisa waama.
The wise lay up knowledge, and the mouth of a fool [is] near ruin.
15 Qabeenyi sooreyyii isaaniif magaalaa daʼoo qabduu dha; hiyyummaan garuu badiisa hiyyeeyyii ti.
The wealth of the rich [is] his strong city, The ruin of the poor [is] their poverty.
16 Mindaan qajeeltotaa jireenya; galiin hamootaa garuu cubbuu fi duʼa.
The wage of the righteous [is] for life, The increase of the wicked for sin.
17 Namni gorsa fudhatu karaa jireenyaa irra deema; namni adaba didu kam iyyuu garuu warra kaan karaa irraa jalʼisa.
A traveler to life [is] he who is keeping instruction, And whoever is forsaking rebuke is erring.
18 Namni hidhii sobuun jibba dhokfatu, kan maqaa namaa balleessus gowwaa dha.
Whoever is covering hatred with lying lips, And whoever is bringing out an evil report is a fool.
19 Yoo dubbiin baayʼatu, cubbuun keessaa hin dhabamu; namni arraba isaa eeggatu garuu ogeessa.
In the abundance of words transgression does not cease, And whoever is restraining his lips [is] wise.
20 Arrabni nama qajeelaa meetii filatamaa dha; garaan nama hamaa garuu faayidaa xinnoo qaba.
The tongue of the righteous [is] chosen silver, The heart of the wicked—as a little thing.
21 Arrabni nama qajeelaa nama hedduu soora; gowwoonni garuu hubannaa dhabiisaan duʼu.
The lips of the righteous delight many, And fools die for lack of heart.
22 Eebbi Waaqayyoo nama sooromsa; inni rakkina tokko illee itti hin dabalu.
The blessing of YHWH—it makes rich, And He adds no grief with it.
23 Gowwaan amala hamaadhaan gammachuu argata; namni waa hubatu garuu ogummaatti gammada.
To execute inventions [is] as play to a fool, And wisdom to a man of understanding.
24 Wanni namni hamaan sodaatu isumatti dhufa; hawwiin nama qajeelaa immoo ni guutamaaf.
The feared thing of the wicked meets him, And the desire of the righteous is given.
25 Yeroo bubbeen hamaan bubbisu namoonni hamoon ni badu; qajeeltonni garuu bara baraan jabaatanii jiraatu.
As the passing by of a windstorm, So the wicked is not, And the righteous is a perpetual foundation.
26 Akkuma wanni dhangaggaaʼaan ilkaan miidhee, aarris ija miidhu sana namni dhibaaʼaan warra isa ergatu miidha.
As vinegar to the teeth, And as smoke to the eyes, So [is] the slothful to those sending him.
27 Waaqayyoon sodaachuun bara jireenya namaa dheeressa; umuriin nama hamaa garuu ni gabaabbata.
The fear of YHWH adds days, And the years of the wicked are shortened.
28 Abdiin nama qajeelaa gammachuu taʼa; wanni namni hamaan eeggatu garuu ni bada.
The hope of the righteous [is] joyful, And the expectation of the wicked perishes.
29 Karaan Waaqayyoo nama qajeelaaf daʼoo dha; nama jalʼaaf garuu badiisa.
The way of YHWH [is] strength to the perfect, And ruin to workers of iniquity.
30 Qajeeltonni yoom iyyuu hin fonqolfaman; hamoonni garuu lafa irratti hin hafan.
The righteous is not moved for all time, And the wicked do not inhabit the earth.
31 Afaan nama qajeelaa ogummaa dubbata; arrabni jalʼaan garuu ni kutama.
The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And the tongue of contrariness is cut out.
32 Arrabni nama qajeelaa waan fudhatama qabu dubbata; afaan nama hamaa garuu waan jalʼaa qofa dubbata.
The lips of the righteous know a pleasing thing, And the mouth of the wicked perverseness!
