1 Dhaʼicha sana booddee Waaqayyo Musee fi Eleʼaazaar ilma Aroon lubichaatiin akkana jedhe;
After the plague had ended, the LORD said to Moses and Eleazar son of Aaron the priest,
2 “Waldaa saba Israaʼel warra umuriin isaanii waggaa digdamaa fi hammasii ol taʼe kanneen loltoota Israaʼel keessa tajaajiluu dandaʼan hunda maatii maatiidhaan lakkaaʼaa.”
“Take a census of the whole congregation of Israel by the houses of their fathers—all those twenty years of age or older who can serve in the army of Israel.”
3 Musee fi Eleʼaazaar lubichi dirreewwan Moʼaab irratti, Yordaanos biratti, Yerikoo gamatti akkana jedhanii isaan wajjin dubbatan;
So on the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho, Moses and Eleazar the priest issued the instruction,
4 “Akkuma Waaqayyo Musee ajajetti namoota umuriin isaanii waggaa digdamaatii fi hammasii olii lakkaaʼaa.” Jarri kunneen Israaʼeloota biyya Gibxiitii baʼanii dha:
“Take a census of the men twenty years of age or older, as the LORD has commanded Moses.” And these were the Israelites who came out of the land of Egypt:
5 Ilmaan Ruubeen ilma Israaʼel hangaftichaa: karaa Henookiitiin, balbala Hanookotaa; karaa Faluutiin, balbala Faluuwotaa;
Reuben was the firstborn of Israel. These were the descendants of Reuben: The Hanochite clan from Hanoch, the Palluite clan from Pallu,
6 karaa Hezrooniitiin, balbala Asroonotaa; karaa Karmiitiin, balbala Karmootaa.
the Hezronite clan from Hezron, and the Carmite clan from Carmi.
7 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Ruubeen; baayʼinni isaaniis 43,730 ture.
These were the clans of Reuben, and their registration numbered 43,730.
8 Ilmi Faluus Eliiyaab;
Now the son of Pallu was Eliab,
9 ilmaan Eliiyaabis Nemuuʼeel, Daataanii fi Aberoon. Daataanii fi Abiiraam kunneen qondaaltota waldaa kanneen Musee fi Aroonitti fincilanii dha; isaan yeroo Qooraahii fi duukaa buutonni isaa Waaqayyotti fincilan sanas achi keessa turan.
and the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. It was Dathan and Abiram, chosen by the congregation, who fought against Moses and Aaron with the followers of Korah who rebelled against the LORD.
10 Laftis afaan banattee Qooraahii fi isaan illee liqimsite; warri garee Qooraahi immoo yeroo ibiddii namoota 250 fixe sana dhuman. Isaanis mallattoo namoonni ittiin of eeggatan taʼan.
And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them along with Korah, whose followers died when the fire consumed 250 men. They serve as a warning sign.
11 Ilmaan Qooraahi garuu hin duune.
However, the line of Korah did not die out.
12 Ilmaan Simiʼoon akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Nemuuʼeel, balbala Nemuuʼeelotaa; karaa Yaamiin, balbala Yaamiinotaa; karaa Yaakiin, balbala Yaakiinotaa;
These were the descendants of Simeon by their clans: The Nemuelite clan from Nemuel, the Jaminite clan from Jamin, the Jachinite clan from Jachin,
13 karaa Zeraan, balbala Zerootaa; karaa Shaawul, balbala Shaawulootaa ti.
the Zerahite clan from Zerah, and the Shaulite clan from Shaul.
14 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Simiʼoonii ti; isaanis namoota 22,200 turan.
These were the clans of Simeon, and there were 22,200 men.
15 Ilmaan Gaad akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Zefoon, balbala Zefoonotaa; karaa Hagii, balbala Hagootaa; karaa Shuunii, balbala Shuunotaa;
These were the descendants of Gad by their clans: The Zephonite clan from Zephon, the Haggite clan from Haggi, the Shunite clan from Shuni,
16 karaa Oznii, balbala Oznootaa; karaa Eerii, balbala Eerotaa;
the Oznite clan from Ozni, the Erite clan from Eri,
17 karaa Arood, balbala Aroodotaa; karaa Ariʼeel, balbala Ariʼeelotaa ti.
the Arodite clan from Arod, and the Arelite clan from Areli.
18 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Gaadii ti; baayʼinni isaaniis 40,500 ture.
These were the clans of Gad, and their registration numbered 40,500.
19 Eerii fi Oonaan ilmaan Yihuudaa ti; isaan garuu Kanaʼaan keessatti duʼan.
The sons of Judah were Er and Onan, but they died in the land of Canaan.
20 Ilmaan Yihuudaa akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Sheelaa, balbala Sheelaanotaa; karaa Faares, balbala Faaresotaa; karaa Zaaraa, balbala Zaarotaa ti.
These were the descendants of Judah by their clans: The Shelanite clan from Shelah, the Perezite clan from Perez, and the Zerahite clan from Zerah.
21 Ilmaan Faaresis kanneenii dha: karaa Hezroon, balbala Hezroonotaa; karaa Hamuul, balbala Hamuulotaa ti.
And these were the descendants of Perez: the Hezronite clan from Hezron and the Hamulite clan from Hamul.
22 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Yihuudaa ti; baayʼinni isaaniis 76,500 ture.
These were the clans of Judah, and their registration numbered 76,500.
23 Ilmaan Yisaakor akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Toolaa, balbala Toolotaa; karaa Fuwaa, balbala Fuuwotaa;
These were the descendants of Issachar by their clans: The Tolaite clan from Tola, the Punite clan from Puvah,
24 karaa Yaashuub, balbala Yaashuubotaa; karaa Shimroon, balbala Shimroonotaa ti.
the Jashubite clan from Jashub, and the Shimronite clan from Shimron.
25 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Yisaakor; baayʼinni isaaniis 64,300 ture.
These were the clans of Issachar, and their registration numbered 64,300.
26 Ilmaan Zebuuloon akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Sered, balbala Seredootaa; karaa Eeloon, balbala Eeloonotaa; karaa Yahiliʼeel, balbala Yahiliʼeelotaa ti.
These were the descendants of Zebulun by their clans: The Seredite clan from Sered, the Elonite clan from Elon, and the Jahleelite clan from Jahleel.
27 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Zebuuloon; baayʼinni isaaniis 60,500 ture.
These were the clans of Zebulun, and their registration numbered 60,500.
28 Ilmaan Yoosef akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti: Minaasee fi Efreem.
The descendants of Joseph included the clans of Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 Ilmaan Minaasee: karaa Maakiir, balbala Maakiirotaa; Maakiir kun abbaa Giliʼaad; karaa Giliʼaad, balbala Giliʼaadotaa ti.
These were the descendants of Manasseh: The Machirite clan from Machir, the father of Gilead, and the Gileadite clan from Gilead.
30 Ilmaan Giliʼaad isaan kanneenii dha: karaa Iiʼezer, balbala Iiʼezerootaa; karaa Heleq, balbala Heleqootaa;
These were the descendants of Gilead: the Iezerite clan from Iezer, the Helekite clan from Helek,
31 karaa Asriʼeel, balbala Asriiʼeelotaa, karaa Sheekem, balbala Sheekemotaa;
the Asrielite clan from Asriel, the Shechemite clan from Shechem,
32 karaa Shemiidaa, balbala Shemiidaa; karaa Heefer, balbala Heeferotaa ti.
the Shemidaite clan from Shemida, and the Hepherite clan from Hepher.
33 Zelofehaad ilmi Heefer ilmaan hin qabu ture; inni intallan qofa qaba ture; maqaan isaaniis Mahilaa, Nohii, Hoglaa, Miilkaa fi Tiirzaa dha.
Now Zelophehad son of Hepher had no sons but only daughters. The names of his daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
34 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Minaasee ti; baayʼinni isaaniis 52,700 ture.
These were the clans of Manasseh, and their registration numbered 52,700.
35 Ilmaan Efreem akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Shuutelaa, balbala Shuutelootaa; karaa Beker, balbala Bekerotaa; karaa Taahan, balbala Taahanotaa ti.
These were the descendants of Ephraim by their clans: The Shuthelahite clan from Shuthelah, the Becherite clan from Becher, and the Tahanite clan from Tahan.
36 Ilmaan Shuutelaa isaan kanneenii dha: karaa Eeraan, balbala Eeraanotaa ti.
And the descendants of Shuthelah were the Eranite clan from Eran.
37 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Efreem; baayʼinni isaaniis 32,500 ture. Isaan kunneen ilmaan Yoosef warra akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti lakkaaʼamanii dha.
These were the clans of Ephraim, and their registration numbered 32,500. These clans were the descendants of Joseph.
38 Ilmaan Beniyaam akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Belaa, balbala Belaaʼotaa; karaa Ashbeel, balbala Asbeelotaa; karaa Ahiiraam, balbala Ahiiraamotaa;
These were the descendants of Benjamin by their clans: The Belaite clan from Bela, the Ashbelite clan from Ashbel, the Ahiramite clan from Ahiram,
39 karaa Shefuufaami, balbala Shefuufaamotaa; karaa Huufaam, balbala Huufaamotaa ti.
the Shuphamite clan from Shupham, and the Huphamite clan from Hupham.
40 Ilmaan Belaa, karaa Ardii fi Naʼamaan: karaa Ardii, balbala Ardootaa; karaa Naʼamaan, balbala Naʼamaanotaa ti.
And the descendants of Bela from Ard and Naaman were the Ardite clan from Ard and the Naamite clan from Naaman.
41 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Beniyaam; baayʼinni isaaniis 45,600 ture.
These were the clans of Benjamin, and their registration numbered 45,600.
42 Ilmaan Daan akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Shuuhaam, balbala Shuuhaamotaa ti. Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Daan:
These were the descendants of Dan by their clans: The Shuhamite clan from Shuham. These were the clans of Dan.
43 Isaan hundinuu balbalawwan Shuuhaamotaa ti; baayʼinni isaaniis 64,400 ture.
All of them were Shuhamite clans, and their registration numbered 64,400.
44 Ilmaan Aasheer akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Yimnaa, balbala Yuumnootaa; karaa Yishwii, balbala Yishwiiyotaa; karaa Beriiyaa, balbala Beriiyootaa;
These were the descendants of Asher by their clans: The Imnite clan from Imnah, the Ishvite clan from Ishvi, and the Beriite clan from Beriah.
45 karaa ilmaan Beriiyaa immoo: karaa Hebeer, balbala Hebeerotaa; karaa Malkiiʼeel, balbala Malkiiʼeelotaa ti.
And these were the descendants of Beriah: the Heberite clan from Heber and the Malchielite clan from Malchiel.
46 Aasheer intala Seraa jedhamtu tokko qaba ture.
And the name of Asher’s daughter was Serah.
47 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Aasheer; baayʼinni isaaniis 53,400 ture.
These were the clans of Asher, and their registration numbered 53,400.
48 Ilmaan Niftaalem akkuma balbala balbala isaaniitti kanneenii dha: karaa Yahizeel, balbala Yahizeelotaa, karaa Guunii, balbala Guunotaa;
These were the descendants of Naphtali by their clans: The Jahzeelite clan from Jahzeel, the Gunite clan from Guni,
49 karaa Yeexer, balbala Yeexirotaa; karaa Shiileem, balbala Shiileemotaa ti.
the Jezerite clan from Jezer, and the Shillemite clan from Shillem.
50 Jarri kunneen balbalawwan Niftaalem; baayʼinni isaaniis 45,400 ture.
These were the clans of Naphtali, and their registration numbered 45,400.
51 Walumaa galatti baayʼinni dhiira Israaʼel 601,730 ture.
These men of Israel numbered 601,730 in all.
52 Waaqayyo Museedhaan akkana jedhe;
Then the LORD said to Moses,
53 “Biyyi sun akkuma baayʼina maqaa namaatti dhaala taʼee isaan kanneeniif haa qoodamu.
“The land is to be divided among the tribes as an inheritance, according to the number of names.
54 Balbala guddaadhaaf dhaala guddaa, balbala xinnaadhaaf immoo dhaala xinnaa kenni; tokkoon tokkoon balbalaa akkuma baayʼina namoota galmeeffamaniitti dhaala isaa haa argatu.
Increase the inheritance for a large tribe and decrease it for a small one; each tribe is to receive its inheritance according to the number of those registered.
55 Garuu biyyi sun ixaadhaan haa qoqoodamtu. Isaanis akkuma maqaawwan gosoota abbootii isaaniitti ni dhaalu.
Indeed, the land must be divided by lot; they shall receive their inheritance according to the names of the tribes of their fathers.
56 Tokkoon tokkoon dhaala sanaa garee guddaa fi garee xinnaa gidduutti ixaadhaan haa qoodamu.”
Each inheritance is to be divided by lot among the larger and smaller tribes.”
57 Lewwonni balbala balbalaan lakkaaʼaman kanneenii dha: karaa Geershoon, balbala Geershoonotaa; karaa Qohaati, balbala Qohaatotaa; karaa Meraarii, balbala Meraarotaa ti.
Now these were the Levites numbered by their clans: The Gershonite clan from Gershon, the Kohathite clan from Kohath, and the Merarite clan from Merari.
58 Jarri kunneenis balbalawwan Lewwotaa ti: balbala Liibnotaa, balbala Kebroonotaa, balbala Mahelootaa, balbala Muusotaa, balbala Qooraahotaa. Qohaati abbaa Amraam;
These were the families of the Levites: The Libnite clan, the Hebronite clan, the Mahlite clan, the Mushite clan, and the Korahite clan. Now Kohath was the father of Amram,
59 maqaan niitii Amraam Yookebeed. Isheen intala Lewwii kan biyya Gibxitti Lewwiif dhalattee dha. Amraamiifis Aroon, Musee fi obboleettii isaanii Miiriyaam deesse.
and Amram’s wife was named Jochebed. She was also a daughter of Levi, born to Levi in Egypt. To Amram she bore Aaron, Moses, and their sister Miriam.
60 Aroon abbaa Naadaab, Abiihuu, Eleʼaazaarii fi Iitaamaar.
Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar were born to Aaron,
61 Naadaabii fi Abiihuu garuu yeroo ibidda hin eeyyamamin fuula Waaqayyoo duratti dhiʼeessan sana duʼan.
but Nadab and Abihu died when they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD.
62 Dhiironni umuriin isaanii jiʼa tokkoo fi hammasii ol taʼe kanneen lakkaaʼaman hundi 23,000 turan. Isaanis sababii gidduu isaaniitti dhaala hin argatiniif Israaʼeloota kaan wajjin hin lakkaaʼamne.
The registration of the Levites totaled 23,000, every male a month old or more; they were not numbered among the other Israelites, because no inheritance was given to them among the Israelites.
63 Isaan kunneen warra yeroo Musee fi Eleʼaazaar lubichi dirreewwan Moʼaab irratti, Yordaanos biratti, Yerikoo gamatti Israaʼeloota lakkaaʼan sana lakkaaʼamanii dha.
These were the ones numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest when they counted the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho.
64 Namoota karaa Museetii fi Aroon lubichaan Gammoojjii Siinaa keessatti lakkaaʼaman keessaa namni tokko iyyuu isaan gidduu hin turre.
Among all these, however, there was not one who had been numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the Wilderness of Sinai.
65 Sababii Waaqayyo waaʼee isaanii, “Isaan Gammoojjii keessatti ni dhumu” jedhee dubbatee tureef, Kaaleb ilma Yefunee fi Iyyaasuu ilma Nuuni malee isaan keessaa namni tokko iyyuu hin hafne.
For the LORD had told them that they would surely die in the wilderness. Not one was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
