< Maatewos 7 >
1 “Akka isinitti hin muramneef namoota kaanitti hin murinaa.
‘Do not judge and you will not be judged.
2 Murtiidhuma isin namatti murtaniin isinitti muramaatii; safartuu ittiin safartaniinis isiniif safarama.
For, just as you judge others, you will yourselves be judged, and the standard that you use will be used for you.
3 “Ati maaliif jirma ija kee keessa jiru arguu dhiiftee huuba ija obboleessa keetii keessa jiru ilaalta?
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your friend’s eye, while you pay no attention at all to the plank of wood in yours?
4 Ati utuu jirmi ija kee keessa jiruu akkamitti obboleessa keetiin, ‘Kottu mee ani huuba ija kee keessa jiru siif nan baasa’ jechuu dandeessa?
How will you say to your friend “Let me take out the speck from your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own?
5 Fakkeessituu nana; duraan dursiitii jirma ija kee keessa jiru baafadhu; ergasiis huuba ija obboleessa keetii keessa jiru baasuudhaaf sirriitti argita.
Hypocrite! Take out the plank from your own eye first, and then you will see clearly how to take out the speck from your friend’s.
6 “Waan qulqulluu sarootaaf hin kenninaa; lula keessanis booyyee dura hin buusinaa. Yoo kana gootan isaan miilla isaaniitiin dhidhiitu; gara galanis isin cicciru.
‘Do not give what is sacred to dogs; they will turn and maul you. Do not throw your pearls before pigs; they will trample them underfoot.
7 “Kadhadhaa, isiniif ni kennamaa; barbaadaa, ni argattuu; rurrukutaa, balballi isiniif ni banamaa.
Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
8 Namni kadhatu hundi ni argataatii; namni barbaadu ni argata; nama rurrukutuufis balballi ni banama.
For the person who asks receives, the person who searches finds, and the door will be opened to the person who knocks.
9 “Isin keessaa namni yoo ilmi isaa buddeena isa kadhate, dhagaa kennuuf eenyu?
Who among you, when their child asks them for bread, will give them a stone,
10 Yookaan yoo inni qurxummii isa kadhate, bofa kennuuf eenyu?
or when they ask for a fish, will give them a snake?
11 Erga isin warri hamoon iyyuu kennaa gaarii ijoollee keessaniif kennuu beektanii, abbaan keessan inni samii irraa immoo hammam caalchisee warra isa kadhataniif kennaa gaarii haa kennuu ree!
If you, then, wicked though you are, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask him!
12 Kanaafuu waan akka namoonni isiniif godhan barbaaddan hundumaa isinis akkasuma isaaniif godhaa; Seerris Raajonnis kanumaatii.
‘Do to others whatever you would wish them to do to you; for that is the teaching of both the Law and the prophets.
13 “Karra dhiphaadhaan seenaa. Karaan badiisatti geessu balʼaadhaatii; karri isaas balʼaa dha; namoonni ittiin seenanis baayʼee dha.
Go in by the small gate. The road that leads to destruction is broad and spacious, and many go in by it.
14 Garuu karri isaa dhiphaa dha; karaan jireenyatti nama geessu qalʼaa dha; warri isa argatanis muraasa.
For the gate is small, and the road narrow, that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15 “Raajota sobaa warra kalʼee hoolaa uffatanii gara keessan dhufan, kanneen keessi isaanii garuu yeeyyii akka malee beelaʼee waa cicciratu taʼe irraa of eeggadhaa.
‘Beware of false teachers – people who come to you in the guise of sheep, but at heart they are ravenous wolves.
16 Isin ija isaaniitiin isaan beektu. Namoonni qoraattii irraa wayinii yookaan sokorruu irraa harbuu ni ciruu?
By the fruit of their lives you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Akkasumas mukni gaariin hundumtuu ija gaarii naqata; mukni gadheen immoo ija gadhee naqata.
So, too, every sound tree bears good fruit, while a worthless tree bears bad fruit.
18 Mukni gaariin ija gadhee naqachuu hin dandaʼu; mukni gadheenis ija gaarii naqachuu hin dandaʼu.
A sound tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a worthless tree bear good fruit.
19 Mukni ija gaarii hin naqanne hundi muramee ibiddatti naqama.
Every tree that fails to bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Kanaaf isin ija isaaniitiin isaan beektu.
So it is by the fruit of their lives that you will know such people.
21 “Nama fedhii Abbaa koo isa samii irraa raawwatu malee namni, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, yaa Gooftaa’ naan jedhu hundi mootummaa samiitti hin galu.
Not everyone who says to me “Master! Master!” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Guyyaa sana namoonni hedduun, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, yaa Gooftaa, nu maqaa keetiin raajii dubbanneerra mitii? Maqaa keetiin hafuurota hamoo baafneerra mitii? Maqaa keetiin dinqii hedduu hojjenneerra mitii?’ naan jedhu.
On that day many will say to me “Master, Master, was not it in your name that we taught, and in your name that we drove out demons, and in your name that we did many miracles?”
23 Ani immoo, ‘Narraa fagaadhaa! Isin warra hammina hojjettan, ani gonkumaa isin hin beekne’ jedhee ifaan ifatti isaanitti nan hima.
And then I will say to them plainly “I never knew you. Go from my presence, you who live in sin.”
24 “Kanaafuu namni dubbii koo kana dhagaʼee hojiidhaan argisiisu hundi, nama ogeessa mana isaa kattaa irratti ijaarrate fakkaata.
‘Everyone, therefore, who listens to this teaching of mine and acts on it may be compared to a prudent person, who built their house on the rock.
25 Bokkaan roobee, lolaan lolaʼee, bubbeenis bubbisee mana sana dhaʼe; manichi garuu waan kattaa irratti hundeeffameef hin jigne.
The rain poured down, the rivers rose, the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, for its foundations were on the rock.
26 Namni dubbii koo kana dhagaʼee hojiidhaan hin argisiifne hundi garuu nama gowwaa mana isaa cirracha irratti ijaarrate fakkaata.
Everyone who listens to this teaching of mine and does not act on it may be compared to a foolish person, who built their house on the sand.
27 Bokkaan roobee, lolaan lolaʼee, bubbeenis bubbisee manicha dhaʼe; manni sunis ni jige; jiguun isaas akka malee hamaa ture.”
The rain poured down, the rivers rose, the winds blew and struck against that house, and it fell with a great crash.’
28 Yommuu Yesuus dubbii kana dubbatee raawwatetti namoonni barsiisa isaa ni dinqisiifatan;
By the time that Jesus had finished speaking, the crowd was filled with amazement at his teaching.
29 inni akka barsiistota seeraatti utuu hin taʼin, akka nama taayitaa qabu tokkootti isaan barsiisa tureetii.
For he taught them like one who had authority, and not like their teachers of the Law.
