Maatewos 4
1 Ergasii Yesuus akka diiyaabiloosiin qoramuuf Hafuuraan gammoojjiitti geeffame.
Then Jesus was led up into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil.
2 Innis erga guyyaa afurtamaa fi halkan afurtama soomee booddee ni beelaʼe.
After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
3 Inni nama qoru sun gara isaa dhufee, “Ati yoo Ilma Waaqaa taate, akka dhagoonni kunneen buddeena taʼan ajaji” jedheen.
Then the tempter came up to him and said, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.”
4 Yesuus immoo deebisee, “‘Namni dubbii afaan Waaqayyootii baʼu hundaan malee buddeena qofaan hin jiraatu’jedhamee barreeffameera” jedheen.
But Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
5 Ergasii diiyaabiloos gara magaalaa qulqulluutti isa geessee fiixee mana qulqullummaa irra dhaabachiise.
Then the devil took him to the holy city, set him on the pinnacle of the temple,
6 Akkanas jedheen; “Ati yoo Ilma Waaqaa taate, gad of darbadhu. Akkana jedhamee barreeffameeraatii: “‘Inni ergamoota isaa siif ni ajaja; isaanis akka ati miilla keetiin dhagaatti hin buuneef, harka isaaniitiin ol si fuudhu.’”
and said to him, “If yoʋ are the Son of God, throw yoʋrself down, for it is written, ‘He will command his angels concerning yoʋ,’ and, ‘In their hands they will lift yoʋ up, so that yoʋ do not strike yoʋr foot against a stone.’”
7 Yesuus immoo deebisee, “‘Waaqa kee Goofticha hin qorin’jedhamee barreeffameera” jedheen.
Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall not put the Lord yoʋr God to the test.’”
8 Ammas diiyaabiloos tulluu akka malee ol dheeraa tokkotti ol isa baasee mootummoota addunyaa hundaa fi ulfina isaanii isatti argisiise.
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 Akkanas jedheen; “Yoo ati gad jettee naaf sagadde, waan kana hundumaa siifin kenna.”
And he said to him, “All these things I will give yoʋ, if yoʋ will fall down and worship me.”
10 Yesuusis, “Seexana nana, narraa fagaadhu! ‘Waaqa kee Gooftichaaf sagadi; isuma qofa tajaajili’jedhamee barreeffameeraatii” jedheen.
Then Jesus said to him, “Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘Yoʋ shall worship the Lord yoʋr God, and him only shall yoʋ serve.’”
11 Diiyaabiloosis isa dhiisee deeme; ergamoonni immoo dhufanii isa tajaajilan.
Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.
12 Yesuus yommuu akka Yohannis mana hidhaatti galfame dhagaʼetti Galiilaatti deebiʼe.
Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.
13 Innis Naazreetii baʼee gara Qifirnaahom ishee biyya Zebuuloonii fi Niftaalem keessatti qarqara galaanaatti argamtu sanaa dhaqee achi jiraate;
And leaving Nazareth, he went and dwelt at Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,
14 kunis akka dubbiin karaa Isaayyaas raajichaatiin dubbatame sun raawwatamuuf taʼe; dubbichis akkana jedha:
so that what had been spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
15 “Biyyi Zebuuloonii fi biyyi Niftaalem kanneen Yordaanos gama, qarqara Daandii Galaanaa irra jiran, Galiilaan Namoota Ormaas,
“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
16 sabni dukkana keessa jiraatu, ifa guddaa argeera; warra biyya gaaddidduu duʼaa keessa jiraataniifis, ifni baʼeera.”
the people sitting in darkness have seen a great light, and on those sitting in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.”
17 Yesuus yeroo sanaa jalqabee, “Mootummaan samii dhiʼaateeraatii qalbii jijjiirradhaa” jedhee lallabuutti kaʼe.
From that time Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.”
18 Yesuus utuu qarqara Galaana Galiilaa irra deemaa jiruu, obboloota lama jechuunis Simoon isa Phexros jedhamuu fi obboleessa isaa Indiriiyaasin arge. Isaanis qurxummii qabdoota waan taʼaniif kiyyoo galaanatti darbachaa turan.
As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
19 Yesuusis, “Kottaa, na duukaa buʼaa; anis akka isin qabduu namootaa taataniif isin nan erga” jedheen.
Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
20 Isaanis yommusuma kiyyoo isaanii dhiisanii isa duukaa buʼan.
So they immediately left their nets and followed him.
21 Innis utuu achii kaʼee deemuu obboloota gara biraa lama jechuunis Yaaqoob ilma Zabdewoosii fi obboleessa isaa Yohannisin arge. Isaanis abbaa isaanii Zabdewoos wajjin kiyyoo isaanii qopheeffachaa bidiruu keessa turan. Yesuusis isaan waame;
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.
22 isaanis yommusuma bidiruu sanaa fi abbaa isaanii dhiisanii isa duukaa buʼan.
So they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
23 Yesuus manneen sagadaa isaanii keessatti barsiisaa, wangeela mootummaa lallabaa, dhibee fi dhukkuba saba keessa jiru hunda fayyisaa Galiilaa guutuu keessa deeme.
Then Jesus went throughout all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people.
24 Oduun waaʼee isaas Sooriyaa hunda keessatti dhagaʼame; namoonnis warra dhukkuba garaa garaatiin qabaman, warra dhukkuba hamaan dhiphatan, warra hafuura hamaan qabaman, warra dhukkuba gaggabdootiin dhiphatanii fi warra dhagni irratti duʼe isatti fidan; innis isaan fayyise.
So the news about him went out into all of Syria, and the people brought to him all who were sick with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics. And he healed them.
25 Tuunni namoota baayʼees Galiilaadhaa, Magaalaa Kurnanii, Yerusaalemii, Yihuudaa fi biyya Yordaanos gamaatii isa duukaa buʼe.
And large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.
