Maatewos 2
1 Bara Heroodis Mootichaa keessa, erga Yesuus magaalaa Beetlihem Yihuudaatti argamtu keessatti dhalatee booddee, beektonni baʼa biiftuutii gara Yerusaalem dhufan;
Now when Yeshua was born in Beth-Lekhem of Yehuda in the days of Herod the king, look, Magushe from the east came to Urishlim, saying,
2 isaanis, “Mootiin Yihuudootaa inni dhalate sun eessa jira? Nu urjii isaa baʼa biiftuutti arginee isaaf sagaduu dhufneerra” jedhanii gaafatan.
"Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."
3 Heroodis Mootichi yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti ni jeeqame; Yerusaalemis guutummaatti isa wajjin jeeqamte.
And when King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Urishlim with him.
4 Innis luboota hangafootaa fi barsiistota seeraa hunda saba keessaa walitti qabee, Kiristoos eessatti akka dhalatu isaan gaafate.
And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Meshikha would be born.
5 Isaanis akkana jedhanii deebisaniif; “Beetlihem Yihuudaatti dhalata; kunis dubbii raajichi, “‘Yaa Beetlihem ishee biyya Yihuudaa, ati gonkumaa bulchitoota Yihuudaatii gad miti; bulchaan saba koo Israaʼelin tiksu si keessaa ni baʼaatii’ jedhee barreesse sanaa dha.”
And they said to him, "In Beth-Lekhem of Yehuda, for thus it is written through the prophet,
'And you, Beth-Lekhem, land of Yehuda, are in no way least among the rulers of Yehuda; for out of you will come forth a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israyel.'"
7 Ergasii Heroodis beektota sana dhoksaatti waamee yeroo itti urjiin sun mulʼate isaan irraa hubate.
Then Herod secretly called the Magushe, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
8 Innis, “Dhaqaatii jabeessaa mucicha barbaadaa. Yeroo argitanitti immoo akka anis dhufee isaaf sagaduuf natti himaa” jedhee Beetlihemitti isaan erge.
And he sent them to Beth-Lekhem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child, and when you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him."
9 Isaanis erga waan mootichi jedhe sana dhagaʼanii booddee karaa isaanii itti fufan; urjiin isaan baʼa biiftuutti argan sunis hamma iddoo mucichi ture gaʼee dhaabatutti isaan dura deeme.
And they, having heard the king, went their way; and look, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 Isaanis yeroo urjii sana arganitti akka malee gammadan.
And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 Akkuma mana ol seenaniinis mucicha, haadha isaa Maariyaam wajjin argan; kufaniis sagadaniif. Qorxii isaaniis bananii kennaa warqee, ixaanaa fi qumbii dhiʼeessaniif.
And they came into the house and saw the young child with Maryam, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12 Beektonnis akka gara Heroodisitti hin deebineef waan abjuudhaan of eeggachiisni isaaniif kennameef karaa biraatiin biyya isaaniitti deebiʼan.
Being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
13 Yommuu beektonni sun deemanitti, kunoo ergamaan Gooftaa abjuudhaan Yoosefitti mulʼatee, “Sababii Heroodis mucicha ajjeesuu barbaaduuf kaʼiitii mucichaa fi haadha isaa fudhadhuutii Gibxitti baqadhu. Hamma ani yeroo ati itti deebitu sitti himutti achuma turi” jedheen.
Now when they had departed, look, an angel of the Lord appeared to Yauseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
14 Kanaafuu Yoosef kaʼee mucichaa fi haadha isaa halkaniin fudhatee Gibxitti qajeele;
And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
15 hamma Heroodis duʼuttis achi jiraate. Kunis akka wanni Gooftaan karaa raajichaatiin, “Ani Gibxii ilma koo waameera” jedhe sun raawwatamuuf taʼe.
and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
16 Heroodis yommuu akka beektonni sun isa gowwoomsan hubatetti akka malee aare; innis akka yeroo beektota sana irraa bareetti, ijoollee dhiiraa warra umuriin isaanii waggaa lamaa fi hammasii gad taʼe kanneen Beetlihemii fi naannoo ishee keessa jiraatan hunda nama itti ergee ficcisiise.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the Magushe, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Beth-Lekhem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the Magushe.
17 Kanaanis wanni Ermiyaas raajichi dubbate ni raawwatame. Innis akkana jedha:
Then that which was spoken by Aramiyah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
18 “Sagaleen booʼichaatii fi wawwaannaa guddaan tokko Raamaa keessaa dhagaʼame; sababii isaan hin jirreef, Raahel ijoollee isheetiif booʼaa jirti; jajjabaachuus ni didde.”
"A voice was heard in Ramtha, lamentation and weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; and she would not be comforted, because they are no more."
19 Erga Heroodis duʼee booddee, ergamaan Gooftaa tokko Gibxitti abjuudhaan Yoosefitti mulʼatee,
But when Herod was dead, look, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Yauseph in Egypt, saying,
20 “Warri lubbuu mucichaa barbaadan waan duʼaniif kaʼiitii mucicha haadha isaa wajjin fudhadhuutii biyya Israaʼel dhaqi” jedheen.
"Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israyel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."
21 Kanaafuu Yoosef kaʼee mucichaa fi haadha isaa fudhatee biyya Israaʼel dhaqe.
And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and went to the land of Israyel.
22 Garuu yommuu akka Arkelaawoos iddoo abbaa isaa, iddoo Heroodis Yihuudaa irratti moʼe dhagaʼetti achi dhaquu sodaate; abjuudhaanis waan of eeggachiisni isaaf kennameef gara aanaa Galiilaa deeme;
But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Yehuda in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galila,
23 achis dhaqee magaalaa Naazreeti jedhamtu keessa jiraate. Kunis dubbiin, “Inni Naaziricha jedhamee ni waamama” jedhamee karaa raajotaatiin dubbatame sun akka raawwatamuuf taʼe.
and came and lived in a city called Natsrath; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he will be called a Natsraya.
