< Maatewos 14 >
1 Bara sana Heroodis bulchaan oduu waaʼee Yesuus dhagaʼe;
In that time, Herod the Tetrarch heard the news about Jesus.
2 innis tajaajiltoota isaatiin, “Kun Yohannis Cuuphaa dha; inni warra duʼan keessaa kaafameera! Sababiin hojiin dinqii isaan hojjetamuufis kanuma” jedhe.
And he said to his servants: “This is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead, and that is why miracles are at work in him.”
3 Heroodis sababii niitii obboleessa isaa Fiiliphoos, sababii Heroodiyaasiitiif jedhee Yohannisin qabee, hidhee mana hidhaatti galchee tureetii.
For Herod had apprehended John, and bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother.
4 Kunis sababii Yohannis Heroodisiin, “Ati ishee fuudhuun kee seera miti” jechaa tureef.
For John was telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.”
5 Inni immoo Yohannisin ajjeesuu barbaade; garuu sababii namoonni Yohannisin akka raajiitti ilaalaa turaniif isaan sodaate.
And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.
6 Intalli Heroodiyaas guyyaa dhaloota Heroodisitti keessummoota duratti sirbitee Heroodisin gammachiifte;
Then, on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst, and it pleased Herod.
7 kanaafuu inni waan isheen gaafatte kam iyyuu isheef kennuuf kakuudhaan waadaa gale.
And so he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask of him.
8 Isheenis haadha isheetiin gorfamtee, “Mataa Yohannis Cuuphaa gabatee irra kaaʼii naa kenni” jette.
But, having been advised by her mother, she said, “Give me here, on a platter, the head of John the Baptist.”
9 Mootichis ni gadde; garuu sababii kakuu isaatii fi sababii warra isa wajjin maaddiitti dhiʼaataniitiif jedhee akka wanni isheen barbaadde sun isheef kennamu ajaje;
And the king was greatly saddened. But because of his oath, and because of those who sat at table with him, he ordered it to be given.
10 innis nama ergee mana hidhaa keessatti mataa Yohannis isa irraa kute.
And he sent and beheaded John in prison.
11 Mataan isaas gabatee irra kaaʼamee fidamee intalattiitti kenname; isheenis haadha isheetti geessite.
And his head was brought on a platter, and it was given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother.
12 Barattoonni Yohannisis dhufanii reeffa isaa fuudhanii awwaalan. Isaanis dhaqanii Yesuusitti himan.
And his disciples approached and took the body, and they buried it. And arriving, they reported it to Jesus.
13 Yesuus yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti achii kaʼee kophaa isaa bidiruudhaan iddoo namni hin jirre tokko dhaqe. Namoonnis yommuu waan kana dhagaʼanitti magaalaawwanii baʼanii miillaan isa duukaa buʼan.
When Jesus had heard it, he withdrew from there by boat, to a deserted place by himself. And when the crowds had heard of it, they followed him on foot from the cities.
14 Yesuus yommuu bidiruu irraa buʼetti tuuta guddaa tokko arge; innis garaa laafeefii dhukkubsattoota isaanii fayyiseef.
And going out, he saw a great multitude, and he took pity on them, and he cured their sick.
15 Yommuu galgalaaʼetti barattoonni gara isaa dhufanii, “Iddoon kun gammoojjii dha; aduunis dhiiteerti. Namoonni kunneen gara gandootaa dhaqanii akka nyaata bitataniif isaan gad dhiisi” jedhaniin.
And when evening had arrived, his disciples approached him, saying: “This is a deserted place, and the hour has now passed. Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the towns, they may buy food for themselves.”
16 Yesuus garuu, “Deemuun isaan hin barbaachisu. Isinuu waan isaan nyaatan kennaafii” jedhee deebise.
But Jesus said to them: “They have no need to go. Give them something to eat yourselves.”
17 Isaanis, “Nu buddeena shanii fi qurxummii lama qofa asii qabna” jedhanii deebisan.
They answered him, “We have nothing here, except five loaves and two fish.”
18 Yesuusis, “Isuma natti fidaa” jedhe.
He said to them, “Bring them here to me.”
19 Innis akka namoonni marga irra tataaʼan ajajee buddeena shananii fi qurxummii lamaan sana fuudhee, gara samii ol ilaalee galata galchee buddeena sana caccabsees barattootatti kenne; barattoonni immoo namootaaf kennan.
And when he had ordered the multitude to sit down upon the grass, he took the five loaves and the two fish, and gazing up to heaven, he blessed and broke and gave the bread to the disciples, and then the disciples to the multitudes.
20 Isaan hundi nyaatanii quufan; barattoonnis hurraaʼaa hambifame gundoo kudha lama guutuu walitti qaban.
And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up the remnants: twelve baskets full of fragments.
21 Warri nyaatanis dubartootaa fi ijoollee malee gara dhiira kuma shanii turan.
Now the number of those who ate was five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 Yesuus yommusuma akka barattoonni bidiruu yaabbatanii hamma inni tuuta sana of irraa geggeessutti isa dura gamatti darbaniif isaan dirqisiise.
And Jesus promptly compelled his disciples to climb into the boat, and to precede him in crossing the sea, while he dismissed the crowds.
23 Innis erga namoota of irraa geggeessee booddee kadhachuuf kophaa isaa gaaratti ol baʼe. Yommuu galgalaaʼettis kophaa isaa achi ture;
And having dismissed the multitude, he ascended alone onto a mountain to pray. And when evening arrived, he was alone there.
24 yeroo kanatti immoo bidiruun sun lafa irraa xinnoo achi hiiqxee turte; sababii bubbeen fuula duraan itti bubbiseef bidiruun sun dambaliidhaan asii fi achi raafamaa turte.
But in the midst of the sea, the boat was being tossed about by the waves. For the wind was against them.
25 Yesuusis halkan keessaa kutaa afuraffaatti galaana irra deemaa gara isaanii dhufe.
Then, in the fourth watch of the night, he came to them, walking upon the sea.
26 Barattoonnis yommuu galaana irra deemuu isaa arganitti akka malee rifatan. Sodaataniis, “Kun ekeraa dha” jedhanii iyyan.
And seeing him walking upon the sea, they were disturbed, saying: “It must be an apparition.” And they cried out, because of fear.
27 Yesuus garuu yommusuma, “Jabaadhaa! Anumaatii hin sodaatinaa” jedhee isaanitti dubbate.
And immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying: “Have faith. It is I. Do not be afraid.”
28 Phexros immoo, “Yaa Gooftaa! Egaa si taanaan, akka ani bishaan irra deemee gara kee dhufu na ajaji” jedhee deebiseef.
Then Peter responded by saying, “Lord, if it is you, order me to come to you over the waters.”
29 Yesuusis, “Kottu” jedheen. Phexros immoo bidiruu sana irraa buʼee bishaan irra deemaa gara Yesuus dhufe.
And he said, “Come.” And Peter, descending from the boat, walked over the water, so as to go to Jesus.
30 Yommuu bubbee jabaa sana argetti garuu ni sodaate; liqimfamuu jalqabnaanis, “Yaa Gooftaa na oolchi!” jedhee iyye.
Yet truly, seeing that the wind was strong, he was afraid. And as he began to sink, he cried out, saying: “Lord, save me.”
31 Yesuus yommusuma harka isaa hiixatee isa qabee, “Yaa namicha amantii xinnoo nana, ati maaliif mamte?” jedheen.
And immediately Jesus extended his hand and took hold of him. And he said to him, “O little in faith, why did you doubt?”
32 Yommuu isaan bidiruu yaabbatanittis bubbeen sun gab jedhe.
And when they had ascended into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Warri bidiruu sana keessa turanis, “Ati dhuguma Ilma Waaqaa ti!” jedhanii isaaf sagadan.
Then those who were in the boat drew near and adored him, saying: “Truly, you are the Son of God.”
34 Isaanis yommuu gama ceʼanitti Geensereexitti bidiruu irraa buʼan.
And having crossed the sea, they arrived in the land of Genesaret.
35 Namoonni iddoo sanaas yommuu Yesuusin beekanitti biyya naannoo sanaa hundatti dhaamsa ergan. Namoonnis dhukkubsattoota isaanii hunda isatti fidan;
And when the men of that place had recognized him, they sent into all that region, and they brought to him all who had maladies.
36 akka dhukkubsattoonni sun handaara wayyaa isaa illee tuqaniif isa kadhatan; warri handaara wayyaa isaa tuqan hundinuus ni fayyan.
And they petitioned him, so that they might touch even the hem of his garment. And as many as touched it were made whole.
