1 Yesuus guyyaa muraasa booddee Qifirnaahomitti deebiʼe; namoonnis akka inni mana jiru dhagaʼan.
A few days later Jesus returned home to Capernaum, and news spread that he was there.
2 Namoonni akka malee baayʼatan walitti qabamnaan iddoon dhabamee balballi durris dhiphate; innis dubbicha isaanitti lallabaa ture.
So many people crowded inside the house that it was packed, even outside the door, as Jesus told them the message.
3 Jarri tokko nama dhagni irratti duʼe kan namoota afuriin baatame tokko gara isaa fidan.
Four men had brought a man who was paralyzed,
4 Isaanis sababii baayʼina namaatiif namicha sana Yesuusitti dhiʼeessuu dadhabanii qixa Yesuus tureen bantii manaa saaqanii siree namichi dhagni irratti duʼe irra ciise sana gad buusan.
but they could not get near Jesus because of the crowds. So they went up on the roof and took it apart. After they had made an opening above Jesus, they lowered down the mat with the paralyzed man lying on it.
5 Yesuusis yommuu amantii isaanii argetti namicha dhagni irratti duʼe sanaan, “Gurbaa, cubbuun kee siif dhiifameera” jedhe.
When Jesus saw the trust these men had, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
6 Barsiistota seeraa keessaa tokko tokko achi tataaʼanii garaa isaanii keessatti,
Some of the religious teachers sitting there thought to themselves,
7 “Namichi kun maaliif akkana dubbata? Inni Waaqa arrabsa! Waaqa tokkicha malee eenyutu cubbuu namaaf dhiisuu dandaʼa?” jedhanii yaadan.
“Why is he talking like this? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins? Only God can do that!”
8 Yesuusis yeruma sana akka wanni isaan garaa isaanii keessatti yaadaa turan kana taʼe hafuuraan beekee akkana jedheen; “Isin maaliif waan kana yaaddu?
Jesus knew right away what they were thinking. He said to them, “Why are you thinking like this?
9 Namicha dhagni irratti duʼe kanaan, ‘Cubbuun kee siif dhiifameera’ jechuu moo ‘Kaʼii siree kee fudhadhuu deemi’ jechuutu salphaa dha?
What's easier: to say to the paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and walk’?
10 Ani garuu akka Ilmi Namaa cubbuu namaaf dhiisuudhaaf lafa irratti taayitaa qabu akka beektan nan barbaada.” Kanaafuu inni namicha sanaan,
But to convince you that the Son of man has the right to forgive sins,
11 “Ani sitti nan hima; kaʼi; siree kee fudhadhuutii mana keetti gali” jedhe.
I say to you (the paralyzed man), ‘Get up, pick up your mat, and go home.’”
12 Innis kaʼee, yommusuma siree isaa fudhatee utuma isaan hundinuu arganuu baʼe deeme. Kunis hunda isaanii dinqisiise; isaanis, “Nu takkumaa waan akkanaa arginee hin beeknu!” jedhanii Waaqa jajan.
He stood up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of everyone there. They were all amazed, and praised God, saying “We've never ever seen anything like this!”
13 Yesuus amma illee gara qarqara galaanichaatti gad baʼe. Namoonni baayʼeenis isa biratti walitti qabaman; innis isaan barsiisuu jalqabe.
Jesus went out beside the sea once more and taught the crowds that came to him.
14 Innis utuu achiin darbaa jiruu, Lewwii ilma Alfewoos utuu inni iddoo itti qaraxa walitti qaban taaʼuu argee, “Na duukaa buʼi” jedheen. Lewwiinis kaʼee isa duukaa buʼe.
As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax-collector's booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him. Levi got up and followed Jesus.
15 Yeroo Yesuus mana Lewwiitti irbaata nyaachaa turetti, qaraxxoonnii fi cubbamoonni baayʼeen isaa fi barattoota isaa wajjin nyaachaa turan; namoonni isa duukaa buʼan baayʼee turaniitii.
That evening Jesus ate dinner at Levi's house. Many tax collectors and “sinners” joined Jesus and his disciples for the meal, for there were many of these people that followed Jesus.
16 Barsiistonni seeraa warri Fariisota turan yommuu isaa cubbamootaa fi qaraxxoota wajjin nyaatu arganitti, “Inni maaliif qaraxxootaa fi cubbamoota wajjin nyaata?” jedhanii barattoota isaa gaafatan.
When the religious leaders of the Pharisees saw Jesus eating with such people, they asked Jesus' disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 Yesuus immoo waan kana dhageenyaan, “Ogeessi fayyaa tokko warra dhukkubsataniif malee warra fayyaa qabaniif hin barbaachisu. Ani cubbamoota waamuufin dhufe malee qajeeltota waamuuf hin dhufne” jedheen.
When Jesus heard this, he told them, “It's not healthy people who need a doctor, but those who are sick. I haven't come to invite those who live right, but those who don't—the sinners.”
18 Barattoonni Yohannisii fi Fariisonni ni soomu turan. Namoonni tokko tokko dhufanii, “Barattoonni Yohannisii fi barattoonni Fariisotaa ni soomu; barattoonni kee garuu maaliif hin soomne?” jedhanii Yesuusin gaafatan.
Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some of them came to Jesus, and asked him, “Why is it that John's disciples and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples don't?”
19 Yesuus immoo akkana jedhee deebise; “Keessummoonni misirrichaa akkamiin utuu inni isaan wajjin jiruu soomuu dandaʼu? Isaan hamma isa of biraa qabanitti soomuu hin dandaʼan.
“Do wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?” Jesus asked them. “No. While the bridegroom's with them, they can't fast.
20 Garuu yeroon itti misirrichi isaan biraa fudhatamu ni dhufa; isaanis gaafas ni soomu.
But the day is coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they'll fast.
21 “Namni uffata moofaa irratti erbee haaraa erbu tokko iyyuu hin jiru. Yoo kun godhame, erbeen haaraan sun uffata sana irraa tarsaasa; tarsaʼaan sunis isa duraa ni caala.
No one puts a patch that's not shrunk on old clothes. Otherwise the new piece will shrink away from the old, and make the tear worse.
22 Namni daadhii wayinii haaraa qalqalloo moofaatti naqu tokko iyyuu hin jiru. Yoo itti naqe immoo daadhiin sun qalqalloo sana dhoosa; daadhichii fi qalqallichi horoomaa baʼu. Qooda kanaa daadhiin wayinii haaraan qalqalloo haaraatti naqamuu qaba.”
No one puts new wine in old wineskins. Otherwise the wine will burst the wineskins, and both the wine and wineskins will be wasted. No. You put new wine in new wineskins.”
23 Guyyaa Sanbataa tokko Yesuus lafa qotiisaa midhaanii keessa darbaa ture; barattoonni isaas utuu isa wajjin deemaa jiranuu asheetii midhaanii cirachuu jalqaban.
One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through the grain fields, his disciples started picking heads of grain as they walked along.
24 Fariisonnis, “Ilaa, isaan maaliif waan Sanbataan hojjechuun hin eeyyamamne hojjetu?” jedhaniin.
The Pharisees asked Jesus, “Look, why are they doing what is not permitted on the Sabbath?”
25 Innis akkana jedhee deebise; “Isin waan Daawit yeroo innii fi miiltonni isaa beelaʼanii fi rakkatanitti godhe sana takkumaa hin dubbifnee?
“Haven't you ever read what David did when he and his men were hungry and in need?” Jesus asked them.
26 Bara Abiyaataar luba ol aanaa ture keessa, inni mana Waaqaa seenee buddeena qulqulleeffame kan akka luboonni qofti nyaataniif eeyyamame sana nyaate. Warra isa wajjin jiraniifis ni kenne.”
“He went into God's house when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the consecrated bread which no one except the priests are permitted to eat, and gave it to his men too.”
27 Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Sanbatatu namaaf uumame malee namni Sanbataaf hin uumamne.
“The Sabbath was made for your benefit, not for you to benefit the Sabbath,” he told them.
28 Kanaafuu Ilmi Namaa Sanbataaf illee Gooftaa dha.”
“So the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
