1 Ganama barii luboonni hangafoonni, maanguddoota, barsiistota seeraatii fi guutummaa yaaʼii Yihuudootaa wajjin mariʼatanii Yesuusin hidhanii, geessanii Phiilaaxoositti dabarsanii kennan.
As soon as it was morning, the chief priests took counsel with the elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin. They bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilate.
2 Phiilaaxoosis, “Ati mootii Yihuudootaatii?” jedhee isa gaafate. Yesuus immoo, “Atuu jette kaa!” jedhee deebise.
So Pilate asked him, “Are yoʋ the king of the Jews?” Jesus answered him, “Yoʋ have said it yoʋrself.”
3 Luboonni hangafoonni waan baayʼeedhaan isa himatan.
Then the chief priests accused him of many things.
4 Phiilaaxoos amma illee, “Ati deebii hin kennituu? Isaan waan meeqaan akka si himatan mee ilaali” jedhee isa gaafate.
So Pilate asked him again, “Do yoʋ make no answer? See how many things they are testifying against yoʋ!”
5 Yesuus garuu amma illee deebii tokko iyyuu hin kennine; Phiilaaxoosis ni dinqisiifate.
But Jesus made no further answer, so Pilate was amazed.
6 Innis nama hidhame kan sabni gaafate tokko Guyyaa Ayyaanaa hunda gad dhiisa ture.
Now at the feast Pilate would release one prisoner for the people, whomever they requested.
7 Namichi Barabbaas jedhamu tokko finciltoota goolii kaasanii nama ajjeesan wajjin mana hidhaa keessa ture.
And there was a man named Barabbas who was in prison with his fellow insurrectionists who had committed murder in the insurrection.
8 Uummanni sunis Phiilaaxoos bira dhaqee akka inni waan duraan gochaafii ture sana isaanii godhu isa kadhate.
So the crowd cried out and began to ask Pilate to do what he had always done for them.
9 Phiilaaxoos garuu, “Akka ani mootii Yihuudootaa gad isinii dhiisu barbaadduu?” jedhee gaafate;
Pilate answered them, “Do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?”
10 inni akka luboonni hangafoonni hinaaffaadhaan Yesuusin dabarsanii isatti kennan ni beeka tureetii.
(For he knew that the chief priests had handed Jesus over out of envy.)
11 Luboonni hangafoonni garuu akka Phiilaaxoos qooda Yesuus Barabbaasin gad dhiisu akka isa kadhataniif namoota kakaasan.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release for them Barabbas instead.
12 Phiilaaxoosis, “Yoos namicha isin mootii Yihuudootaa jettaniin kana maal godhu ree?” jedhee amma illee isaan gaafate.
In response Pilate said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with the man you call King of the Jews?”
13 Isaan amma illee, “Isa fannisi!” jedhanii iyyan.
They cried out again, “Crucify him!”
14 Phiilaaxoos immoo, “Maaliif? Inni yakka maalii hojjete?” jedhee gaafate. Isaan garuu ittuma caalchisanii, “Isa fannisi!” jedhanii iyyan.
Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify him!”
15 Kanaafuu Phiilaaxoos namoota gammachiisuuf jedhee Barabbaasin gad isaaniif dhiise. Yesuusin garuu garafsiisee akka inni fannifamuuf dabarsee kenne.
Then Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas. But he scourged Jesus and handed him over to be crucified.
16 Ergasii loltoonni Yesuusin mana bulchaatti, jechuunis Piraayitooriyoonitti ol galchan; raayyaa loltootaa hundas walitti waaman.
So the soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters) and called together the entire cohort of soldiers.
17 Uffata dhiilgee itti uffisan; gonfoo qoraattiis micciiranii dhaʼanii isa irra kaaʼan.
They clothed him with a purple robe, and they twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on him.

Then they began to salute him: “Hail, King of the Jews!”
19 Uleedhaanis mataa isaa rukutan; isattis tufan. Jilbeenfataniis sagadaniif.
They kept beating him on the head with a reed, spitting on him, and bending down on their knees to pay homage to him.
20 Erga itti qoosanii booddee uffata diimaa dhiilgee sana irraa baasanii wayyaa isaa deebisanii isatti uffisan. Fannisuufis isa fuudhanii deeman.
When they had finished mocking him, they stripped him of the purple robe and put his own garments back on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
21 Isaanis namicha Qareenaa kan Simoon jedhamu tokko utuu inni baadiyyaadhaa dhufee achiin darbaa jiruu arganii akka inni fannoo Yesuus baatuuf isa dirqisiisan. Namichi kunis abbaa Iskindiroosii fi Ruufoosii ti.
Now a certain man from Cyrene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the countryside. The soldiers pressed him into service, forcing him to carry Jesus' cross,
22 Isaanis iddoo Golgootaa jedhamutti Yesuusin geessan; Golgootaa jechuun “Iddoo buqqee mataa” jechuu dha.
and they brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means, “Place of the Skull”).
23 Jarris akka inni daadhii wayinii kan qumbiin walitti makame dhuguuf kennaniif; inni garuu fudhachuu dide.
Then they gave him wine to drink, mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
24 Isaanis isa fannisan. Uffata isaas gargar qoodatanii tokkoon tokkoon namaa maal akka argatu murteessuuf ixaa buufatan.
And they crucified him. Then they divided his garments, casting lots for them to see who would take what.
25 Yeroon isaan itti isa fannisanis ganama saʼaatii sadii ture.
It was the third hour when they crucified him.
26 Katabbiin waan inni ittiin himatamee kan, Mooticha Yihuudootaa, jedhu mataa isaatiin ol ture.
The inscription of the charge against him was written as follows: “The King of the Jews.”
27 Hattoota lamas, isa tokko mirga isaatiin, kaan immoo bitaa isaatiin isa wajjin fannisan. [
With him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.
28 Kanaanis dubbiin kitaabni, “Inni akka seera cabsitootaatti lakkaaʼame” jedhu sun ni raawwatame.]
So the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “He was numbered with the lawless.”
29 Warri achiin darbanis isa arrabsan; mataa isaaniis raasanii, “Muu! Ati kan mana qulqullummaa diigdee guyyaa sadiitti ijaartu,

31 Akkasumas luboonni hangafoonnii fi barsiistonni seeraa wajjin itti qoosan. Akkanas jedhan; “Inni warra kaan oolcheera; ofii isaa garuu oolchuu hin dandaʼu!
In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes, were mocking him among themselves, saying, “He saved others, but he cannot save himself.
32 Akka nu arginee amannuuf Kiristoos mootichi Israaʼel kun mee amma fannoo irraa gad haa buʼu.” Warri isa wajjin fannifamanis isa arrabsan.
Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see it and believe him.” The men who were crucified with him were also insulting him.
33 Saʼaatii jaʼaa jalqabee, hamma saʼaatii sagaliitti dukkanni lafa hunda irra buʼe.
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour, there was darkness over the whole land.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lima sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have yoʋ forsaken me?”
35 Warra achi dhadhaabatan keessaa tokko tokko yommuu waan kana dhagaʼanitti, “Ilaa, inni Eeliyaasin waamaa” jedhan.
When some of those standing nearby heard this, they said, “Behold, he is calling for Elijah.”

Then a man ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Leave him alone. Let us see if Elijah comes to take him down.”
37 Yesuusis sagalee guddaadhaan iyyee hafuura dhumaa baafate.
But Jesus let out a loud cry and breathed his last breath.
38 Golgaan mana qulqullummaas olii hamma gadiitti iddoo lamatti tarsaʼe.

Now when the centurion who was standing in front of Jesus saw how he cried out and breathed his last breath, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God.”
