1 Jalqaba wangeela Yesuus Kiristoos Ilma Waaqaa.
The beginning of the Good News about Jesus Christ.
2 Kitaaba Isaayyaas raajichaa keessatti akkana jedhamee barreeffameera: “Kunoo, ani ergamaa koo isa karaa kee qopheessu, si dura nan erga;”
It is said in the Prophet Isaiah — ‘Behold! I send my Messenger before thy face; he shall prepare thy way.
3 “Sagalee nama, ‘Gooftaaf karaa qopheessaa; daandii qajeelaas isaaf hojjedhaa’ jedhee gammoojjii keessaa iyyu tokkoo.”
The voice of one crying aloud in the Wilderness: “Make ready the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.”’
4 Kanaafuu Yohannis gammoojjii keessatti nama cuuphaa, dhiifama cubbuutiif immoo cuuphaa qalbii jijjiirrannaa lallabaa dhufe.
And in fulfilment of this, John the Baptizer appeared in the Wilderness, proclaiming a baptism upon repentance, for the forgiveness of sins.
5 Biyyi Yihuudaa guutuunii fi namoonni Yerusaalem hundinuus gara isaa dhaqanii cubbuu isaanii himachaa, Laga Yordaanos keessatti isaan cuuphamaa turan.
The whole of Judea, as well as all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, went out to him; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
6 Yohannis uffata rifeensa gaalaa irraa hojjetame uffatee, mudhii isaas sabbata teephaatiin hidhata ture; inni hawwaannisaa fi damma bosonaa nyaata ture.
John was clad in clothing of camels’ hair, with a belt of leather round his waist, and lived on locusts and wild honey;
7 Innis akkana jedhee lallabaa ture; “Kan na caalaa jabaa taʼe, hidhaa kophee isaa illee gad jedhee hiikuun kan naaf hin malle tokko na duubaan ni dhufa.
and he proclaimed — “There is coming after me one more powerful than I, and I am not fit even to stoop down and unfasten his sandals.
8 Ani bishaaniinan isin cuupha; inni garuu Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan isin cuupha.”
I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 Yeroo sana Yesuus Naazreeti ishee Galiilaatii dhufee Laga Yordaanos keessatti Yohannisiin cuuphame.
Now about that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 Yesuus utuma bishaan keessaa ol baʼaa jiruu, samiin banamee utuu Hafuurri akkuma gugeetti isa irratti gad buʼuu arge.
And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent apart, and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him,
11 Sagaleen, “Ati Ilma koo isa ani jaalladhuu dha; ani baayʼee sitti nan gammada” jedhu tokkos samii irraa dhufe.
and from the heavens came a voice — “Thou art my Son, the Beloved; in thee I delight.”
12 Yeruma sana Hafuurri gammoojjiitti isa baase;
Immediately afterwards the Spirit drove Jesus out into the Wilderness;
13 inni guyyaa afurtama Seexanaan qoramaa gammoojjii keessa ture. Inni bineensota wajjin ture; ergamoonnis isa tajaajilan.
and he was there in the Wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and among the wild beasts, while the angels ministered to him.
14 Erga Yohannis mana hidhaatti galfamee booddee, Yesuus wangeela Waaqaa lallabaa Galiilaa seene.
After John had been committed to prison, Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God —
15 Innis, “Barri sun gaʼeera; mootummaan Waaqaas dhiʼaateera; qalbii jijjiirradhaatii wangeelatti amanaa!” jedhe.
“The time has come, and the Kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe the Good News.”
16 Yesuus utuu qarqara Galaana Galiilaa irra deemaa jiruu Simoonii fi obboleessa isaa Indiriiyaas utuu isaan kiyyoo galaanatti darbachaa jiranuu arge; isaan qurxummii qabdoota turaniitii.
As Jesus was going along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the Sea, for they were fishermen.
17 Yesuusis, “Kottaa, na duukaa buʼaa; anis akka isin qabduu namootaa taataniif isin nan erga” jedheen.
“Come and follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will set you to fish for men.”
18 Isaanis yommusuma kiyyoo isaanii dhiisanii isa duukaa buʼan.
They left their nets at once, and followed him.
19 Innis yommuu xinnoo achi hiiqetti Yaaqoob ilma Zabdewoosii fi obboleessa isaa Yohannis utuu isaan bidiruu keessatti kiyyoowwan isaanii qopheeffatanuu arge.
Going on a little further, he saw James, Zebediah’s son, and his brother John, who also were in their boat mending the nets.
20 Innis yommusuma isaan waame; isaanis abbaa isaanii Zabdewoosin hojjettoota qacaraman wajjin bidiruu sana keessatti dhiisanii isa duukaa buʼan.
Jesus at once called them, and they left their father Zebediah in the boat with the crew, and went after him.
21 Isaan gara Qifirnaahom dhaqan; innis yommusuma Sanbataan mana sagadaa seenee barsiise.
And they walked into Capernaum. On the next Sabbath Jesus went into the Synagogue and began to teach.
22 Inni akka barsiistota seeraatti utuu hin taʼin akka nama taayitaa qabu tokkootti waan barsiisaa tureef namoonni barsiisa isaa ni dinqisiifatan.
The people were amazed at his teaching, for he taught them like one who had authority, and not like the Teachers of the Law.
23 Yeruma sana namichi mana sagadaa isaanii keessaa kan hafuura xuraaʼaan qabame tokko iyyee
Now there was in their Synagogue at the time a man under the power of a foul spirit, who called out:
24 akkana jedhe; “Yaa Yesuus nama Naazreeti, ati maal nurraa qabda? Nu balleessuu dhufte moo? Ati eenyu akka taate ani nan beeka, yaa Qulqullicha Waaqaa!”
“What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!”
25 Yesuus immoo, “Calʼisii isa keessaa baʼi!” jedhee ifate.
But Jesus rebuked the spirit: “Be silent! Come out from him.”
26 Hafuurri xuraaʼaan sunis namicha dhidhiitachiisee, sagalee guddaadhaan iyyee keessaa baʼe.
The foul spirit threw the man into a fit, and with a loud cry came out from him.
27 Namoonni hundinuu baayʼee dinqifatanii, “Kun maalii? Inni taayitaadhaan barsiisa haaraa barsiisa! Hafuurota xuraaʼoo illee ni ajaja; isaanis ni ajajamuuf” waliin jedhan.
And they were all so amazed that they kept asking: “What is this? Strange teaching indeed! He gives his commands with authority even to the foul spirits, and they obey him!”
28 Oduun waaʼee isaas dafee biyya Galiilaa guutuu keessa faffacaʼe.
And the fame of Jesus spread at once in all directions, through the whole neighbourhood of Galilee.
29 Isaanis akkuma mana sagadaatii baʼaniin Yaaqoobii fi Yohannis wajjin mana Simoonii fi Indiriiyaas dhaqan.
As soon as they had come out from the Synagogue, they went, with James and John, into the house of Simon and Andrew.
30 Haati niitii Simoonis dhukkuba dhagna gubaadhaan qabamtee ciifti turte; isaanis yommusuma waaʼee ishee Yesuusitti himan.
Now Simon’s mother-in-law was lying ill with fever, and they at once told Jesus about her.
31 Innis dhaqee harka qabee ishee kaase. Dhagna gubaan sunis ishee dhiise; isheenis isaan tajaajiluu jalqabde.
Jesus went up to her and, grasping her hand, raised her up; the fever left her, and she began to wait upon them.
32 Namoonnis galgala sana erga biiftuun lixxee booddee, dhukkubsattootaa fi warra hafuurota hamoon qabaman hunda Yesuusitti fidan.
In the evening, after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were ill or possessed by demons;
33 Magaalaan sun guutuunis balbala duratti walitti qabame.
and the whole city was gathered round the door.
34 Yesuusis namoota dhibee garaa garaa qaban hedduu fayyise; hafuurota hamoo baayʼees ni baase; garuu inni sababii hafuuronni hamoon sun eenyummaa isaa beekaniif akka isaan dubbatan hin eeyyamneef.
Jesus cured many who were ill with various diseases, and drove out many demons, and would not permit them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.
35 Yesuus ganama barii dimimmisaan kaʼee manaa baʼee iddoo namni hin jirre tokko dhaqee achitti kadhate.
In the morning, long before daylight, Jesus rose and went out, and, going to a lonely spot, there began to pray.
36 Simoonii fi warri isa wajjin turan isa barbaaduu deeman;
But Simon and his companions hastened after him;
37 isaanis yommuu isa argatanitti, “Namni hundinuu si barbaadaa jira!” jedhaniin.
and, when they found him, they exclaimed: “Every one is looking for you!”
38 Yesuus immoo deebisee, “Akka ani achittis lallabuuf kottaa gara magaalaawwan dhiʼoo jiran kaanii dhaqnaa. Sababiin ani dhufeefis kanuma” jedhe.
But Jesus said to them: “Let us go somewhere else, into the country towns near, that I may make my proclamation in them also; for that was why I came.”
39 Kanaafuu inni manneen sagadaa isaanii keessatti lallabaa, hafuurota hamoos baasaa, Galiilaa guutuu keessa deeme.
And he went about making his proclamation in their Synagogues all through Galilee, and driving out the demons.
40 Namichi lamxaaʼaan tokko gara isaa dhufee jilbeenfatee, “Yoo fedhii kee taʼe, ati na qulqulleessuu ni dandeessa” jedhee isa kadhate.
One day a leper came to Jesus and, falling on his knees, begged him for help. “If only you are willing,” he said, “you are able to make me clean.”
41 Yesuusis garaa laafeefii, harka isaa hiixatee namicha qaqqabee, “Fedhii koo ti; qulqullaaʼi!” jedheen.
Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying as he did so: “I am willing; become clean.”
42 Yeruma sana lamxiin sun namicha irraa bade; namichis ni qulqullaaʼe.
Instantly the leprosy left the man, and he became clean;
43 Yesuusis of eeggannoo jabaa kenneefii yommusuma gad isa dhiise.
and then Jesus, after sternly warning him, immediately sent him away, and said to him:
44 Akkanas jedheen; “Ati waan kana nama tokkotti illee akka hin himne beekkadhu; garuu dhaqiitii akka isaaniif ragaa taʼuuf lubatti of argisiisi; qulqullaaʼuu keetiifis aarsaawwan Museen ajaje sana dhiʼeessi.”
“Be careful not to say anything to any one; but go and show yourself to the Priest, and make the offerings for your cleansing directed by Moses, as evidence of your cure.”
45 Namichi garuu achii baʼee baayʼisee odeessuu jalqabe. Kanaafis Yesuus ergasii magaalaan ala, lafa namni hin jirre ture malee ifaan ifatti magaalattii seenuu hin dandeenye. Namoonni garuu iddoo hundatti isa bira dhufaa turan.
The man, however, went away, and began to speak about it publicly, and to spread the story so widely, that Jesus could no longer go openly into a town, but stayed outside in lonely places; and people came to him from every direction.
