< Luqaas 7 >

1 Yesuus yeroo waan kana hundumaa namoota isa dhaggeeffachaa turanitti himee fixatetti, Qifirnaahom seene.
When Jesus had finished all he had to say to the people, he entered Capernaum.
2 Achis tajaajilaan ajajaa dhibbaa kan gooftaan isaa akka malee isa jaallatu tokko dhukkubsatee duʼuu gaʼee ture.
A centurion in the Roman army had a slave whom he valued, and who was seriously ill – almost at the point of death.
3 Ajajaan dhibbaa sunis waaʼee Yesuus dhagaʼee akka inni dhufee garbicha isaa fayyisuuf maanguddoota Yihuudootaa isatti ergee kadhate.
And, hearing about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him, with the request that he would come and save his slave’s life.
4 Isaanis yommuu gara Yesuus dhufanitti akkana jedhanii jabeessanii isa kadhatan; “Ati waan kana isaaf gochuun namicha kanaaf ni mala;
When they found Jesus, they earnestly implored him to help. “He deserves this favor from you.” they said,
5 inni saba keenya ni jaallataatii; mana sagadaas nuuf ijaareera.”
“He is devoted to our people, and even built our synagogue for us.”
6 Kanaafuu Yesuus isaan wajjin deeme. Yeroo inni manichatti dhiʼaatetti ajajaan dhibbaa sun akkana jedhee michoota isaa Yesuusitti erge; “Yaa gooftaa of hin rakkisin; ati bantii mana koo jala seenuun naaf hin maluutii.
So Jesus went with them. But, when he was no great distance from the house, the centurion sent some friends with the message – “Do not trouble yourself, Sir; for I am unworthy to receive you under my roof.
7 Sababiin ani ofii koo akka nama gara kee dhufuun maluufitti hin ilaaliniif iyyuu kanuma. Garuu dubbicha qofa dubbadhu; tajaajilaan koo ni fayyaatii.
That was why I did not even venture to come to you myself; but speak, and let my manservant be cured.
8 Ani mataan koo iyyuu nama taayitaa jala jiruu dha; loltootas of jalaa qaba. Isa tokkoon, ‘Deemi’ nan jedha; innis ni deema; isa kaaniin immoo, ‘Kottu’ nan jedha; innis ni dhufa. Tajaajilaa kootiinis, ‘Waan kana hojjedhu’ nan jedha; innis ni hojjeta.”
For I myself am a man under the orders of others, with soldiers under me; and if I say to one of them ‘Go,’ he goes, and to another ‘Come,’ he comes, and to my slave ‘Do this,’ he does it.”
9 Yesuus yommuu waan kana dhagaʼetti isa dinqifate; namoota isa duukaa buʼaa turanittis garagalee, “Ani isinittin hima; ani amantii guddaa akkanaa Israaʼel keessatti iyyuu hin arganne” jedhe.
Jesus was surprised to hear these words from him; and, turning to the crowd which was following him, he said, “I tell you, nowhere in Israel have I met with such faith as this!”
10 Yommuu namoonni ergamanii turan manatti deebiʼanitti garbichi sun fayyee isaan eege.
And, when the messengers returned to the house, they found the slave recovered.
11 Yesuus ergasii magaalaa Naayin jedhamtu tokko dhaqe; barattoonni isaatii fi namoonni baayʼeenis isa wajjin dhaqan.
Shortly after, Jesus went to a town called Nain, his disciples and a great crowd going with him.
12 Yommuu inni karra magaalattiitti dhiʼaatetti jarri tokko nama duʼe tokko baatanii isatti dhufan; namichi duʼe sunis haadha isaatiif ilma tokkicha ture; haati isaas haadha hiyyeessaa turte. Namoonni magaalattii baayʼeenis ishee wajjin turan.
Just as he approached the gate of the town, there was a dead man being carried out for burial – an only son, and his mother was a widow. A large number of the people of the town were with her.
13 Gooftaanis yommuu ishee argetti naʼeefii, “Hin booʼin” jedheen.
When he saw her, the Master was moved with compassion for her, and he said to her, “Do not weep.”
14 Innis itti dhiʼaatee wasaasaa reeffa sanaa tuqe; warri reeffa baatanis ni dhaabatan. Innis, “Gurbayyoo, ani siin nan jedhaa, kaʼi!” jedheen.
Then he went up and touched the bier, and the bearers stopped; and Jesus said, “Young man, I am speaking to you – Rise!”
15 Gurbaan duʼe sunis kaʼee taaʼee dubbachuu jalqabe; Yesuusis deebisee haadha isaatti isa kenne.
The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus restored him to his mother.
16 Hundi isaanii ni sodaatan; “Raajiin guddaan nu keessaa argameera. Waaqnis saba isaa gargaaruuf dhufeera” jedhanii Waaqaaf ulfina kennan.
Everyone was awe-struck and began praising God. “A great prophet has arisen among us,” they said. “God has visited his people.”
17 Oduun waaʼee Yesuus kunis Yihuudaa guutuu fi biyya naannoo sana jiru hundumaa keessa faffacaʼe.
And this story about Jesus spread all through Judea, and in the neighboring countries as well.
18 Barattoonni Yohannis waaʼee waan kana hundaa isatti himan. Yohannisis isaan keessaa nama lama ofitti waamee,
All these events were reported to John by his disciples.
19 “Inni dhufuuf jiru siʼi moo yookaan kan biraa eegganna?” jedhee gaafachuudhaaf Gooftaatti isaan erge.
So he summoned two of them, and sent them to the Master to ask – “Are you ‘the coming one,’ or are we to look for someone else?”
20 Namoonni sunis yommuu gara Yesuus dhufanitti, “Yohannis cuuphaan, ‘Inni dhufuuf jiru sun siʼi moo yookaan kan biraa eegganna?’ jedhee gaafachuudhaaf sitti nu ergeera” jedhaniin.
When these men found Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask – Are you ‘the coming one,’ or are we to look for somebody else?”
21 Yesuusis yeruma sana namoota dhibee, dhukkubaa fi hafuura hamaa qaban hedduu fayyise; warra jaamaa turan baayʼeedhaafis agartuu deebise.
At that very time Jesus had cured many people of diseases, afflictions, and wicked spirits, and had given many blind people their sight.
22 Innis akkana jedhee ergamoota sanaaf deebii kenne; “Deebiʼaatii waan argitanii fi waan dhageessan Yohannisitti himaa; jaamonni ni argu; warri naafatan ni deemu; warri lamxaaʼan ni qulqullaaʼu; warri duudan ni dhagaʼu; warri duʼan ni kaʼu; hiyyeeyyiifis wangeelli ni lallabama.
So his answer to the question was, “Go and report to John what you have witnessed and heard – the blind recover their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are made clean, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, the good news is told to the poor.
23 Namni natti hin gufanne kam iyyuu eebbifamaa dha.”
And blessed is the person who finds no hindrance in me.”
24 Erga ergamoonni Yohannis baʼanii qajeelanii booddee Yesuus akkana jedhee waaʼee Yohannis namootatti himuu jalqabe; “Isin maal arguuf gammoojjiitti gad baatan? Shambaqqoo qilleensi raasu moo?
When John’s messengers had left, Jesus, speaking to the crowds, began to say with reference to John,
25 Yoos maal arguu baatan ree? Nama uffata miidhagaa uffate moo? Lakki, warri uffata miidhagaa uffatanii qananiidhaan jiraatan masaraawwan keessa jiru.
“What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed waving in the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in rich clothing? Why, those who are accustomed to fine clothes and luxury live in royal palaces.
26 Garuu isin maal arguu baatan? Raajii moo? Eeyyee; ani isinittin hima; kan raajii iyyuu caalu.
What then did you go to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
27 Kunis isa waaʼeen isaa akkana jedhamee barreeffamee dha: “‘Kunoo, ani ergamaa koo isa fuula kee duraan karaa kee qopheessu, fuula kee dura nan erga.’
This is the man of whom scripture says – ‘I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way before you.’
28 Ani isinittin hima; namoota dubartoota irraa dhalatan keessaa namni Yohannis cuuphaa caalu tokko iyyuu hin jiru; namni mootummaa Waaqaa keessatti nama hundumaa gad taʼe garuu isa ni caala.”
There is, I tell you, no one born of a woman who is greater than John; and yet the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
29 Namoonni hundi, qaraxxoonni iyyuu waan harka Yohannisitti cuuphamanii turaniif yommuu dubbii Yesuus dhagaʼanitti, karaan Waaqaa qajeelaa taʼuu isaa mirkaneessan.
(All the people, when they heard this, and even the tax collectors, having accepted John’s baptism, acknowledged the justice of God.
30 Fariisonnii fi beektonni seeraa garuu sababii harka Yohannisitti hin cuuphaminiif kaayyoo Waaqni isaaniif qabu fudhachuu didan.
But the Pharisees and the students of the Law, having rejected John’s baptism, frustrated God’s purpose in regard to them.)
31 Yesuus itti fufee akkana jedhe; “Yoos ani namoota dhaloota kanaa maaliinan wal fakkeessuu dandaʼa ree? Isaan maal fakkaatu?
“To what then,” Jesus continued, “should I compare the people of the present generation? What are they like?
32 Isaan akkuma ijoollee iddoo gabaa taaʼanii wal waamanii akkana jedhanii ti: “‘Nu ulullee isinii afuufne; isin garuu hin sirbine; faaruu booʼichaas faarsine; isin garuu hin boonye.’
They are like some little children who are sitting in the marketplace and calling out to one another – ‘We have played the flute for you, but you have not danced; We have wailed, but you have not wept!’
33 Yohannis cuuphaan yeroo dhufetti buddeena hin nyaatu, daadhii wayiniis hin dhugu tureetii; isin immoo, ‘Inni hafuura hamaa qaba’ jettu.
For now that John the Baptist has come, not eating bread or drinking wine, you are saying ‘He has a demon in him’;
34 Ilmi Namaa nyaachaa, dhugaas dhufe; isin immoo, ‘Kunoo albaadhessaa fi machaaʼaa, michuu qaraxxootaatii fi cubbamootaa’ jettu.
and now that the Son of Man has come, eating and drinking, you are saying ‘Here is a glutton and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax collectors and outcasts.’
35 Ogummaan garuu ijoollee ishee hundumaan mirkaneeffamti.”
And yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
36 Fariisota keessaa namichi tokko akka inni isa wajjin nyaatuuf Yesuusin affeere; innis mana Fariisichaa dhaqee maaddiitti dhiʼaate.
One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to dine with him, so Jesus went to his house and took his place at the table.
37 Dubartiin cubbamtuun magaalaa sanaa tokkos yommuu akka Yesuus mana Fariisichaatti waa nyaachaa jiru bartetti bilqaaxxii albaasxiroositti shittoo qabattee dhufte.
Just then a woman, who was an outcast in the town, having heard that Jesus was eating in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster jar of perfume,
38 Isheenis booʼaa dugda isaa duubaan miilla isaa bira dhaabattee imimmaan isheetiin miilla isaa jiisuu jalqabde. Rifeensa mataa isheetiinis miilla isaa haqxee, dhungattees miilla isaa shittoo dibde.
and placed herself behind Jesus, near his feet, weeping. Then she began to make his feet wet with her tears, and she dried them with the hair of her head, repeatedly kissing his feet and anointing them with the perfume.
39 Fariisichi isa affeere sunis waan kana argee, “Namichi kun utuu raajii taʼee, dubartiin isa tuqxu kun eenyu akka taate, nama akkamiis akka taate ni beeka ture; isheen cubbamtuudhaatii” jedhee garaa isaa keessatti yaade.
When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself, “Had this man been ‘the prophet,’ he would have known who, and what sort of woman, this is who is touching him, and that she is an outcast.”
40 Yesuus immoo, “Yaa Simoon, ani waanan sitti himu tokko qaba” jedheen. Innis, “Yaa barsiisaa natti himi” jedhe.
But, addressing him, Jesus said, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” “Pray do so, teacher,” Simon answered; and Jesus began,
41 Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Namoonni lama nama maallaqa liqeessu tokko irraa maallaqa liqeeffatan. Inni tokko diinaarii dhibba shan liqeeffate; kaan immoo diinaarii shantama liqeeffate.
“There were two people who were in debt to a moneylender; one owed five hundred silver coins, and the other fifty.
42 Jarri lachuu waan isaaf kaffalan dhabnaan dhiiseef. Egaa jara lamaan keessaa kamtu caalaa isa jaallata?”
As they were unable to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them, do you think, will love him the more?”
43 Simoonis deebisee, “Isa liqiin guddaan dhiifameef sana natti fakkaata” jedheen. Yesuusis, “Ati dhugaa dubbatte” isaan jedhe.
“I suppose,” answered Simon, “it will be the man to whom he forgave the greater debt.” “You are right,” said Jesus,
44 Innis gara dubartittiitti garagalee Simooniin akkana jedhe; “Dubartii kana argitaa? Ani mana kee nan dhufe. Ati bishaan miillaa illee naaf hin kennine; isheen garuu imimmaan isheetiin miilla koo dhiqxee rifeensa mataa isheetiin haqxe.
and then, turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house – you gave me no water for my feet, but she has made my feet wet with her tears and dried them with her hair.
45 Ati na hin dhunganne; dubartiin kun garuu yeroo ani ol seenee jalqabdee miilla koo dhungachuu hin dhiifne.
You did not give me one kiss, but she, from the moment I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 Ati Zayitii iyyuu mataa koo hin dibne; isheen garuu miilla koo shittoo dibde.
You did not anoint even my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfume.
47 Kanaafuu ani sittin hima; sababii jaalalli ishee guddaa taʼeef cubbuun ishee baayʼeen sun isheef dhiifameera. Kan xinnoon dhiifameef garuu jaalalli isaa xinnoo dha.”
So I tell you, her great love shows that her sins, many as they are, have been pardoned. One who is pardoned little loves little.”
48 Yesuusis dubartittiidhaan, “Cubbuun kee siif dhiifameera” jedhe.
Then he said to the woman, “Your sins have been pardoned.”
49 Warri isa wajjin maaddiitti dhiʼaatanii turanis, “Namni cubbuu iyyuu namaa dhiisu kun eenyu?” jedhanii garaa isaaniitti yaaduu jalqaban.
The other guests began to say to one another, “Who is this man who even pardons sins?”
50 Yesuusis dubartittiidhaan, “Amantiin kee si fayyiseera; nagaan deemi” jedhe.
But Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has delivered you; go, and peace be with you.”
