1 Yesuus Yerikoo seenee achi keessa darbaa ture.
Jesus entered Jericho and walked through the town.
2 Namichi Zakkewoos jedhamu tokkos achi ture; innis hangafa warra qaraxa walitti qabaniitii fi sooressa ture.
A man was there named Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector. He was very rich.
3 Innis Yesuus nama akkamii akka taʼe arguu barbaade; garuu gabaabaa waan tureef, sababii baayʼina namootaatiif isa arguu hin dandeenye.
He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he couldn't see over the crowd.
4 Yesuus waan karaa sana irra darbaa tureef, Zakkewoos isa arguuf jedhee fiigee dura darbee muka qilxuu tokko yaabe.
So he ran ahead, and climbed up a sycamore tree to see Jesus as he passed by.
5 Yesuus yommuu iddoo sana gaʼetti ol milʼatee, “Yaa Zakkewoos, harʼa mana kee ooluun narra jiraatii dafii gad buʼi” jedheen.
When Jesus got there, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly! I need to stay at your house today.”
6 Innis yommusuma gad buʼee gammachuudhaan isa simate.
Zacchaeus climbed down quickly and was so happy to welcome Jesus to his home.
7 Namoonni hundinuu yommuu waan kana arganitti, “Inni keessummaa ‘Nama cubbamaa’ taʼuu dhaqe!” jedhanii guungumuu jalqaban.
When the people saw this they all complained, “He's gone to stay with such a sinner!”
8 Zakkewoos garuu kaʼee dhaabatee Gooftaadhaan, “Yaa Gooftaa kunoo, ani walakkaa qabeenya koo hiyyeeyyiif nan kenna; ani yoon nama tokko illee gowwoomsee saamee jiraadhe, waanan fudhadhe sana harka afur godhee nan deebisa” jedhe.
But Zacchaeus stood up and said before the Lord, “Look, I'm giving half of everything I own to the poor, and if I've cheated anybody, I'll pay them back four times as much!”
9 Yesuus deebisee akkana jedheen; “Namichi kunis waan ilma Abrahaam taʼeef, harʼa fayyinni mana kanaaf dhufeera.
In response Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man has shown he is a son of Abraham too.
10 Ilmi Namaa isa bade barbaaduu fi fayyisuudhaaf dhufeetii.”
For the Son of man came to search for and save those who are lost.”
11 Yesuusis utuma isaan waan kana dhagaʼaa jiranuu itti fufee, fakkeenya tokko isaanitti hime; kanas sababii inni Yerusaalemitti dhiʼaatee fi sababii namoonni waan mootummaan Waaqaa yeruma sana mulʼatu seʼaniif dubbate.
While they were still paying attention, Jesus told them a story for they were close to Jerusalem and the people thought that God's kingdom was going to become a reality right away.
12 Innis akkana jedhe; “Namichi sanyii mootii tokko muudamee mootii taʼee deebiʼuuf biyya fagoo dhaqe.
“Once there was a nobleman who left home to go to a distant country to be crowned king there, and then to return.
13 Namichi sunis garboota isaa keessaa nama kudhan waamee, ‘Hamma ani deebiʼutti maallaqa kanaan daldalaa’ jedhee minnaanii kudhan isaanitti kenne.
He called ten of his servants, divided money equally among them, and told them, ‘Invest this money until I return.’
14 “Namoonni biyya isaa garuu isa jibbanii, ‘Akka namichi kun nurratti mootii taʼu hin feenu!’ jedhanii bakka buʼoota isaanii isa duubaan ergatan.
But his people hated him, and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We won't have this man as king over us.’
15 “Innis erga muudamee mootii taʼee deebiʼee booddee garboonni inni maallaqa itti kennee ture sun ittiin daldalanii maal akka argatan beekuuf jedhee nama itti ergee isaan waamsise.
After he had been crowned king he returned. He ordered his servants brought to him. He wanted to know what profit they had made by investing the money he had given them.
16 “Garbichi jalqabaa dhufee, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, minnaaniin kee minnaanii gara biraa kudhan dhaleera’ jedheen.
The first servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned ten times as much.’
17 “Gooftaan isaas deebisee, ‘Yaa garbicha gaarii, ati waan gaarii hojjette. Sababii ati waan akka malee xinnoo irratti amanamaa taateef, magaalaa kudhan irratti taayitaa qabaadhu’ jedheen.
‘Well done! You're a good servant,’ said the king. ‘Since you proved yourself trustworthy in a very small matter, I'm placing you in charge of ten cities.’
18 “Garbichi lammaffaanis dhufee, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, minnaaniin kee minnaanii gara biraa shan dhaleera’ jedheen.
The second servant came in and said, ‘Lord, your money has earned five times as much.’
19 “Gooftaan isaas deebisee, ‘Atis magaalaa shan irratti moʼi’ jedheen.
‘I'm placing you in charge of five cities,’ said the king.
20 “Inni sadaffaan immoo dhufee akkana jedhe; ‘Yaa Gooftaa, minnaaniin kee kunoo ti; ani huccuudhaan maree dhokseen ture.
Another servant came in and said, ‘Lord, look, here's your money back. I kept it safe, wrapped up in a cloth.
21 Ati gara jabeessa waan taateef ani sin sodaadhe; ati waan hin kaaʼatin fudhatta; waan hin facaasinis haammatta.’
I was afraid of you because you're a hard man. You take what doesn't belong to you, and you harvest what you didn't plant.’
22 “Gooftaan isaas deebisee akkana jedhe; ‘Yaa garbicha hamaa nana; ani dubbuma afaan keetiitiin sittin mura; ati akka ani nama dabaa waan hin kaaʼatin fudhatu, waan hin facaasinis haammatu taʼe beekta mitii?
‘I'll judge you by your own words,’ the king replied. ‘You know I'm a hard man, who as you say, takes what doesn't belong to me, and I harvest what I didn't plant.
23 Yoos akka ani yommuun deebiʼutti dhala isaa wajjin fudhadhuuf maaliif maallaqa koo mana baankii naa hin kaaʼin ree?’
Why then didn't you deposit my money in the bank, so that when I returned I could have had my money with interest?’
24 “Gooftichis warra achi dhadhaabataniin, ‘Minnaanii sana isa harkaa fuudhaatii namicha minnaanii kudhan qabuuf kennaa’ jedhe.
The king told those who were standing beside him, ‘Take the money away from him, and give it to the one who made ten times as much.’
25 “Isaanis deebisanii, ‘Yaa Gooftaa, inni duraanuu minnaanii kudhan qaba’ jedhaniin.
‘But master, he already has ten times as much,’ they replied.
26 “Inni immoo deebisee akkana jedhe; ‘Ani isinittin hima; kan qabu hundaafuu itti dabalamee ni kennama; kan hin qabne garuu wanni inni qabu iyyuu irraa fudhatama;
The king said, ‘I tell you, to those who have, more will be given; but those who do not have, even what they have will be taken away from them.
27 diinota koo kanneen akka ani isaan irratti mootii taʼu hin barbaadin immoo as fidaatii fuula koo duratti isaan gogorraʼaa.’”
And as for my enemies who didn't want me to be king over them, bring them here and kill them in front of me.’”
28 Yesuus erga waan kana dubbatee booddee Yerusaalemitti ol baʼuuf isaan dura deemaa ture.
After he'd finished telling them this story, Jesus left for Jerusalem, walking on ahead.
29 Innis akkuma Beetfaagee fi Biitaaniyaa kanneen tulluu Gaara Ejersaa jedhamu biraa sanatti dhiʼaateen barattoota isaa keessaa lama erge;
As he approached Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples, telling them:
30 akkanas isaaniin jedhe; “Gara ganda fuula keessan dura jiru sanaa dhaqaa; akkuma achi seentaniinis, ilmoo harree kan namni tokko iyyuu takkumaa hin yaabbatin tokko achitti hidhamee jiru ni argattu. Isa hiikaatii as fidaa.
“Go to the village farther on. As you enter it you'll find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
31 Yoo namni tokko iyyuu, ‘Isin maaliif hiiktu?’ jedhee isin gaafate, ‘Gooftaatu isa barbaada’ jedhaa.”
If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
32 Warri ergamanis dhaqanii waan hunda akkuma inni isaanitti himetti argatan.
So the two disciples went and found that everything was just as Jesus had said.
33 Utuu isaan ilmoo harree sana hiikaa jiranuus warri harree sanaa, “Ilmoo harree kana maaliif hiiktu?” jedhanii isaan gaafatan.
As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 Isaanis, “Gooftaatu isa barbaada” jedhanii deebisan.
The disciples replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 Ilmoo harree sanas Yesuusitti fidan; uffata isaaniis harree sana irra buusan; Yesuusinis irra teessisan.
They brought the colt to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks over it, and sat Jesus on its back.
36 Utuu inni deemuus namoonni uffata isaanii karaa irra afan.
As he rode along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
37 Yeroo inni daandii Tulluu Ejersaa irraa gad buʼutti dhiʼaatettis, barattoonni hundi hojii dinqii arganii turan hundatti gammadanii, sagalee guddaan akkana jedhanii Waaqa galateeffachuu jalqaban.
As he approached Jerusalem, right where the road goes down from the Mount of Olives, the crowd of disciples all began shouting joyful praises to God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.
38 “Mootiin maqaa Gooftaatiin dhufu eebbifamaa dha!” “Nagaan samii irratti, ulfinnis ol gubbaatti!”
“Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord,” they shouted. “Peace in heaven and glory in highest heaven.”
39 Namoota achi turan keessaas Fariisonni tokko tokko Yesuusiin, “Yaa Barsiisaa, barattoota kee ifadhu!” jedhan.
Some of the Pharisees who were in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, stop your disciples from saying that.”
40 Innis deebisee, “Ani isinittin hima; yoo isaan calʼisan illee dhagoonni ni iyyu” jedheen.
But Jesus replied, “I tell you that if they kept quiet then the stones will shout!”
41 Yesuusis yommuu Yerusaalemitti dhiʼaatee magaalattii argetti ni booʼeef;
But as he got closer, he saw the city and wept over it.
42 akkanas jedhe; “Utuu atumti waan harʼa nagaa siif kennu beektee gaarii ture! Amma garuu ija kee duraa dhokfameera.
“I really wish today that you, even you, had known the path that leads to peace!” he said. “But now it's hidden from your eyes.
43 Guyyoonni itti diinonni kee koobii sitti ijaaranii, si marsanii, karaa hundaanis baʼuu si dhowwan sitti ni dhufuutii.
The time is coming upon you when your enemies will besiege you, building ramps to attack you, encircling you and closing you in from every side.
44 Diinonni siʼii fi ijoollee kee warra dallaa kee keessa jiraatan biyyootti maku. Isaan dhagaa tokko dhagaa kaan irratti hin dhiisan; ati yeroo itti Waaqni gara kee dhufu hin beekneetii.”
They will smash you to the ground, you and your children within you. They won't leave one stone on another within you, for you refused to accept salvation when it came to you.”
45 Yesuus mana qulqullummaa seenee warra gurgurachaa turan ariʼuu jalqabe.
Jesus entered the Temple and began driving out all the people trading there.
46 Innis, “‘Manni koo mana kadhannaa taʼa’ jedhamee barreeffameera; isin garuu ‘Holqa saamtotaa’ gootaniirtu” isaaniin jedhe.
He told them, “Scriptures state that ‘my house will be a house of prayer,’ but you've turned it into a den of thieves.”
47 Guyyuma guyyaanis mana qulqullummaa keessatti barsiisaa ture; luboonni hangafoonni, barsiistonni seeraatii fi dura buʼoonni sabaa garuu isa ajjeesuudhaaf jabeessanii barbaadaa turan.
He was teaching in the Temple every day. The chief priests, the religious teachers, and the leaders of the people were trying to kill him.
48 Taʼus isaan karaa ittiin isa ajjeesan hin arganne; namoonni hundinuu yaada tokkoon waan inni dubbate dhaggeeffachaa turaniitii.
But they couldn't find a way to do it because everyone appreciated him, hanging on his every word.
