Abbootii Murtii 1

1 Erga Iyyaasuun duʼee booddee Israaʼeloonni, “Kanaʼaanota loluudhaaf eenyu dursee nuuf haa baʼu?” jedhanii Waaqayyoon gaafatan.

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 Waaqayyos, “Yihuudaan dursee haa baʼu; kunoo, ani biyyattii dabarsee harka isaatti kenneera” jedhee deebiseef.

And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 Namoonni Yihuudaas obboloota isaanii ilmaan Simiʼooniin, “Kottaa gara lafa qooda keenyaatti Kanaʼaanota loluuf wajjin baanaa; nus gama keenyaan gara lafa qooda keessaniitti isin wajjin ni baanaa” jedhan. Kanaafuu namoonni Simiʼoon isaan wajjin baʼan.

And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 Yommuu Yihuudaan baʼettis Waaqayyo Kanaʼaanotaa fi Feerzota dabarsee harka isaaniitti kenne; isaanis iddoo Bezeq jedhamutti nama kuma kudhan fixan.

And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Adoonii-Bezeq achii baqate; isaan garuu ariʼanii isa qaban; quba abbuudduu harkaatii fi quba abbuudduu miilla isaa irraa kutan.

But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7 Ergasiis Adoonii-Bezeq, “Mootonni qubni abbuudduun harka isaaniitii fi qubni abbuudduun miilla isaanii irraa cirame torbaatamni waan maaddii koo jalatti harcaʼe funaannachaa turan. And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I have done, so God has requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

9 Ergasiis namoonni Yihuudaa Kanaʼaanota biyya gaaraa, Negeebii fi gammoojjii karaa lixa biiftuu keessa jiraatan loluudhaaf gad buʼan.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

10 Namoota Kanaʼaan kanneen Kebroon ishee dur Kiriyaati Arbaaq jedhamtu keessa jiraatanittis duulanii Sheeshaayiin, Ahiimanii fi Talmaayin moʼatan.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba: ) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Achiis namoota biyya Debiir ishee dur Kiriyaati Seefer jedhamaa turte sana keessa jiraatanitti duulan.

And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

12 Kaalebis, “Ani nama Kiriyaati Seefer lolee qabatutti intala koo Aaksaa nan heerumsiisa” jedhe.

And Caleb said, He that strikes Kirjathsepher, and takes it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

13 Obboleessi Kaaleb quxisuun, Otniiʼeel ilmi Qenaz magaalattii qabate; Kaalebis intala isaa Aaksaa isatti heerumsiise.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.

14 Isheenis yeroo gara Otniiʼeel dhuftetti, akka inni abbaa ishee lafa qotiisaa kadhatu isa kakaafte. Kaalebis yommuu isheen harree ishee irraa buutetti, “Ani maal siif godhu?” jedhee ishee gaafate.

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What will you?

15 Isheenis deebiftee, “Waan addaa tokko naa godhi. Akkuma Negeeb keessatti lafa naa kennite sana burqaawwan bishaaniis naa kenni” jetteen. Kaalebis burqaawwan oliitii fi gadii kenneef.

And she said unto him, Give me a blessing: for you have given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

16 Sanyiiwwan Qeenii namicha abbaa niitii Musee sanaa namoota gammoojjii Yihuudaa keessa Negeeb ishee Aaraad biratti argamtu keessa jiraatan gidduu jiraachuuf jedhanii namoota Yihuudaa wajjin Magaalaa Meexxiitii ol baʼan.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses' father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

17 Namoonni Yihuudaa obboloota isaanii ilmaan Simiʼoon wajjin dhaqanii Kanaʼaanota Zefaati keessa jiraatan waraanan; magaalattiis guutumaan guutuutti barbadeessan. Kanaafuu magaalattiin Hormaa jedhamtee waamamte.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Akkasumas namoonni Yihuudaa Gaazaa gandoota naannoo ishee wajjin, Ashqaloon gandoota naannoo ishee wajjin, Eqroon naannoo ishee wajjin qabatan.

Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.

19 Waaqayyo namoota Yihuudaa wajjin ture. Kanaafuu isaan biyya gaaraa sana qabatan; garuu sababii namoonni dirree irra jiraatan gaariiwwan sibiilaa qabaniif achii isaan baasuu hin dandeenye.

And the LORD was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

20 Akkuma Museen abdachiisee turetti Kebroon Kaalebiif kennamte; innis ilmaan Anaaq sadan achii ariʼee baase.

And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Ijoolleen Beniyaam garuu Yebuusota Yerusaalem keessa jiraachaa turan sana achii baasuu hin dandeenye; hamma ammaatti Yebuusonni Beniyaamota wajjin iddoo sana jiraatan.

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.

22 Gosti Yoosef immoo Beetʼeel waraanan; Waaqayyos isaan wajjin ture.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

23 Yommuu isaan gara Beetʼeel ishee dur Luuzi jedhamtutti basaastota erganitti,

And the house of Joseph sent to search out Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

24 basaastonni sun namicha magaalaadhaa baʼee dhufu tokko arganii, “Karaa ittiin magaalaa seenan nu argisiisi; nus waan gaarii siif goona” jedhaniin.

And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray you, the entrance into the city, and we will show you mercy.

25 Innis itti argisiise; isaanis namicha sanaa fi maatii isaa guutuu dhiisanii magaalaa sana goraadeedhaan dhaʼan.

And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they stroke the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

26 Namichis gara Heetotaa deemee magaalaa Loozaa jedhamtu hundeesse; isheenis hamma ammaatti Luuzi jedhamtee waamamti.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.

27 Minaaseen garuu namoota Beet Sheʼaaniitii fi gandoota naannoo ishee yookaan Taʼanaakii fi gandoota naannoo ishee yookaan Doorii fi gandoota naannoo ishee yookaan Yibleʼaamii fi gandoota naannoo ishee yookaan Megidoo fi gandoota naannoo ishee jiraatan achii hin baafne; kanaafuu Kanaʼaanonni ittuma fufanii achi jiraachuuf murteeffatan.

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and her towns, nor Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

28 Israaʼeloonni yommuu jabaachaa dhufanitti akka isaan hojii humnaa hojjetan isaan dirqisiisan malee Kanaʼaanota guutumaan guutuutti achii hin baafne.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, and did not utterly drive them out.

29 Efreemis Kanaʼaanota Geezir keessa jiraatan achii hin baafne; Kanaʼaanonni garuu ittuma fufanii achuma isaan gidduu jiraatan.

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 Zebuuloonis Kanaʼaanota Qixroon yookaan Nahalol keessa jiraatan kanneen gidduu isaaniitti hafan hin baafne; garuu akka isaan hojii humnaa hojjetan godhan.

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.

31 Aasheeris warra Akoo yookaan Siidoon yookaan Ahilaab yookaan Akziib yookaan Helbaa yookaan Afiiqii fi Rehoob keessa jiraatan hin baafne;

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

32 namoonni Aasheer sababii isaan jara ariʼanii hin baasiniif Kanaʼaanota biyya sana jiran gidduu jiraatan.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

33 Niftaalem warra Beet Shemeshii fi Beet Anaati keessa jiraatan hin baafne; namoonni Niftaalem garuu Kanaʼaanota biyya sana turan gidduu jiraatan; warri Beet Shemeshii fi Beet Anaati dirqamsiifamanii hojii humnaa hojjechaafii turan.

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became tributaries unto them.

34 Amooronni immoo warra Daan gara biyya gaaraatti dhiiban malee akka isaan sululatti gad buʼan hin eeyyamneef ture.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:

35 Amooronnis itti fufanii Tulluu Herees irra, Ayaaloonii fi Shaʼalbiim keessa jiraatan; garuu yommuu humni mana Yoosef jabaachaa dhufetti isaanis hojii humnaa isaanii hojjechuuf dirqisiifaman.

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributaries.

36 Daariin Amoorotaa Aqrabiimii jalqabee karaa Seelaatiin ol baʼa ture.

And the coast of the Amorites was from the going up to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
