< Yohannis 19 >
1 Phiilaaxoosis Yesuusin fuudhee garafsiise.
Then Pilate took Jesus and whipped him.
2 Loltoonnis gonfoo qoraattii micciiranii dhaʼanii mataa isaa irra kaaʼan. Isaanis uffata dhiilgee isatti uffisanii,
The soldiers weaved a crown of thorns. They put it on the head of Jesus and dressed him with a purple garment.
3 “Akkam ree, yaa Mootii Yihuudootaa!” jechaa gara isaatti deddeebiʼaa turan. Isas ni kabalan.
They came to him and said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and they struck him.
4 Phiilaaxoos amma illee gad baʼee Yihuudootaan, “Akka ani balleessaa tokko illee isa irratti hin argatin akka beektaniif kunoo ani isa gad isiniifin baasa” jedhe.
Then Pilate went outside again and said to them, “See, I am bringing him outside to you so that you will know that I find no guilt in him.”
5 Yesuusis gonfoo qoraattii kaaʼatee, wayyaa dhiilgees uffatee gad baʼe; Phiilaaxoosis, “Namichi kunoo ti!” isaaniin jedhe.
So Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. Pilate said to them, “Look, here is the man!”
6 Luboonni hangafoonnii fi qondaaltonni isaanii yommuu isa arganitti, “Fannisi! Fannisi!” jedhanii iyyan. Phiilaaxoos immoo deebisee, “Isin ofuma keessanii fuudhaatii isa fannisaa malee ani balleessaa tokko iyyuu isa irratti hin arganne” jedheen.
When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw Jesus, they cried out and said, “Crucify him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him, for I find no guilt in him.”
7 Yihuudoonnis deebisanii, “Nu seera qabna; namichi kun waan Ilma Waaqaa of godheef akka seera keenyaatti duʼuu qaba” jedhan.
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he has to die because he claimed to be the Son of God.”
8 Phiilaaxoosis yommuu dubbii kana dhagaʼetti ittuma caalchisee sodaate.
When Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid,
9 Innis masaraatti ol deebiʼee, “Ati nama eessaati?” jedhee Yesuusin gaafate. Yesuus garuu deebii tokko iyyuu hin kennineef.
and he entered the government headquarters again and said to Jesus, “Where do you come from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
10 Phiilaaxoosis, “Ati na jalaa dubbachuu diddaa? Akka ani gad si dhiisuuf taayitaa qabuu fi akka ani si fannisuuf taayitaa qabu ati hin beektuu?” jedheen.
Then Pilate said to him, “Are you not speaking to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and power to crucify you?”
11 Yesuus immoo, “Ati utuu olii siif kennamuu baatee silaa taayitaa tokko illee narratti hin qabdu ture. Kanaaf inni dabarsee sitti na kenne sun cubbuu cubbuu caalu qaba” jedhee deebiseef.
Jesus answered him, “You do not have any power over me except for what has been given to you from above. Therefore, he who gave me over to you has a greater sin.”
12 Phiilaaxoosis yeroo sanaa jalqabee Yesuusin gad dhiisuu barbaada ture; Yihuudoonni garuu, “Ati yoo namicha kana gad dhiifte michuu Qeesaar miti. Namni mootii of godhu kam iyyuu Qeesaariin morma” jedhanii iyyan.
At this answer, Pilate tried to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you release this man, you are not a friend of Caesar. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
13 Phiilaaxoosis yommuu dubbii kana dhagaʼetti Yesuusin gad baasee, iddoo “Dhagaa Afamaa” kan afaan Ibraayisxiitiin “Gabataa” jedhamutti barcuma murtii irra taaʼe.
When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place called “The Pavement,” but in Hebrew, “Gabbatha.”
14 Guyyaan sunis guyyaa Qophii Faasiikaa ture; yeroon isaas gara saʼaatii jaʼaa ture. Phiilaaxoosis Yihuudootaan, “Mootiin keessan kunoo ti!” jedhe.
Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover, at about the sixth hour. Pilate said to the Jews, “See, here is your king!”
15 Isaan garuu, “Isa balleessi! Isa balleessi! Isa fannisi!” jedhanii iyyan. Phiilaaxoos immoo, “Mootii keessan fannisu moo?” jedhee gaafate. Luboonni hangafoonnis, “Nu Qeesaar malee mootii biraa hin qabnu” jedhanii deebisaniif.
They cried out, “Away with him, away with him; crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Should I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
16 Kanaaf Phiilaaxoos akka inni fannifamuuf dabarsee isaanitti kenne. Isaanis Yesuusin fuudhanii deeman.
Then Pilate gave Jesus over to them to be crucified.
17 Innis fannoo ofii isaa baadhatee iddoo Buqqee Mataa kan afaan Ibraayisxiitiin Golgootaa jedhamutti ol baʼe.
Then they took Jesus, and he went out, carrying the cross for himself, to the place called “The Place of a Skull,” which in Hebrew is called “Golgotha.”
18 Isaanis achitti isa fannisan; isa wajjinis namoota biraa lama, isa tokko garanaan, kaan immoo garasiin, Yesuusin immoo gidduu isaaniitti fannisan.
They crucified Jesus there, and with him two other men, one on each side, with Jesus in the middle.
19 Phiilaaxoosis Katabbii, Yesuus Isa Naazreeti, Mooticha Yihuudootaa, jedhu tokko barreessee fannoo sanatti maxxanse.
Pilate also wrote a sign and put it on the cross. There it was written: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
20 Iddoon Yesuus itti fannifame waan magaalaatti dhiʼoo tureef Yihuudoonni hedduun katabbii sana dubbisaniiru; katabbiin sunis afaan Ibraayisxiitiin, Laatiinii fi Giriikiin barreeffame.
Many of the Jews read this sign because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city. The sign was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.
21 Luboonni Yihuudootaa hangafoonni Phiilaaxoosiin, “Namichi kun, ‘“Ani mootii Yihuudootaa ti” jedheera’ jedhii barreessi malee, ‘Inni Mootii Yihuudootaa ti’ jettee hin barreessin” jedhan.
Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but rather, 'This one said, “I am King of the Jews.”'”
22 Phiilaaxoosis, “Ani waanan barreesse, barreesseera” jedhee deebise.
Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”
23 Loltoonni sunis erga Yesuusin fannisanii booddee kittaa isaa hambisanii wayyaa isaa fuudhanii akka tokko tokko isaan gaʼuuf iddoo afuritti hiratan. Kittaan sun hin hodhamne; olii hamma gadiittis dhaʼaa tokko ture.
When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, divided them into four shares, one for each of them; and also the tunic. Now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top.
24 Kanaafuu isaan, “Kottaa hin tarsaasnuu; garuu ixaa buufannee akka inni kan eenyuu taʼu ilaallaa” waliin jedhan. Kunis akka Katabbiin Qulqulluun, “Isaan wayyaa koo hiratan; uffata koottis ixaa buufatan” jedhu sun raawwatamuuf taʼe. Wanni loltoonni godhanis kanuma.
Then they said to each other, “Let us not tear it, but instead let us cast lots for it to decide whose it will be.” This happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled which said, “They divided my garments among themselves and cast lots for my clothing.” This is what the soldiers did.
25 Fannoo Yesuus biras haati isaa, obboleettiin haadha isaa, Maariyaam niitiin Qilophaatii fi Maariyaam isheen Magdalaa dhaabatanii turan.
Now standing beside Jesus' cross were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 Yesuusis yommuu haadha isaatii fi barataa inni jaallatu sana utuu inni ishee cina dhaabatuu argetti haadha isaatiin, “Dubartii nana! Kunoo, ilma kee” jedhe.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, see, your son!”
27 Barataa sanaan illee, “Kunoo haadha kee” jedhe; barataan sunis saʼaatii sanaa jalqabee gara mana isaatti ishee fudhate.
Then he said to the disciple, “See, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
28 Ergasii Yesuus akka wanni hundinuu raawwatame beekee akka Katabbiin Qulqulluun raawwatamuuf, “Nan dheebodhe” jedhe.
After this, knowing that everything was now completed and so that the scriptures would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”
29 Qodaan dhangaggaaʼaa qabu tokko achi ture; isaanis dhangaggaaʼaa sana keessa ispoonjii cuuphanii hiisophiitti kaaʼanii afaan isaatti qaban.
A container full of sour wine was placed there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop staff and lifted it up to his mouth.
30 Yesuusis dhangaggaaʼaa sana fudhatee, “Raawwateera” jedhe. Mataa buusees hafuura isaa kenne.
When Jesus had taken the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” He bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 Guyyaan sun guyyaa Qophii ture; guyyaan itti aanus Sanbataa addaa ture. Kanaafuu akka reeffi isaanii Sanbataan fannoo irra hin oolle gochuuf jedhanii akka miilli isaanii cabsamee fannoo irraa gad buufamuuf Yihuudoonni Phiilaaxoosin kadhatan.
Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross during the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was especially important), asked Pilate to break their legs and to remove them.
32 Kanaafuu loltoonni dhaqanii miilla namicha jalqabaa, miilla namicha Yesuus wajjin fannifame kaaniis cabsan.
Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the second man who had been crucified with Jesus.
33 Yommuu gara Yesuus dhufanitti garuu inni duʼe waan arganiif miilla isaa hin cabsine.
When they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they did not break his legs.
34 Loltoota sana keessaa inni tokko garuu eeboodhaan cinaacha isaa waraane; yeruma sana dhiignii fi bishaan baʼe.
However, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 Namni waan kana arge rageesseera; ragaan isaas dhugaa dha. Inni akka dhugaa dubbatu ni beeka; inni akka isinis amantaniif dubbata.
The one who saw this has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows that what he said is true so that you would also believe.
36 Kunis wanni Katabbiin Qulqulluun, “Lafeen isaa tokko iyyuu hin cabsamu” jedhe sun akka raawwatamuuf taʼe.
For these things happened in order to fulfill scripture, “Not one of his bones will be broken.”
37 Ammas Katabbiin Qulqulluun biraa, “Isaanis isa waraanan sana ni ilaalu” jedha.
Again, another scripture says, “They will look at him whom they pierced.”
38 Ergasii Yoosef namni Armaatiyaa kan sababii Yihuudoota sodaateef dhoksaan barataa Yesuus ture sun reeffa Yesuus fudhachuuf Phiilaaxoosin kadhate. Phiilaaxoosis isaaf eeyyame; kanaafuu inni dhaqee reeffa Yesuus fudhate.
After these things, Joseph of Arimathea, since he was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked Pilate if he could take away the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission. So Joseph came and took away his body.
39 Niqoodemoos inni duraan halkaniin gara Yesuus dhufee tures walmakaa qumbiitii fi argeessa gara kiiloo giraamii soddomii afur ulfaatu qabatee dhufe.
Nicodemus also came, he who at first had come to Jesus by night. He brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about one hundred litras in weight.
40 Isaanis reeffa Yesuus fuudhanii akka duudhaa Yihuudootaatti awwaaluuf urgooftuu wajjin huccuu quncee talbaa irraa hojjetameen kafanan.
So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, as was the custom of the Jews to bury bodies.
41 Iddoo Yesuus itti fannifames lafa biqiltuu tokkotu ture; lafa biqiltuu sana keessas iddoo awwaalaa haaraa kan namni tokko iyyuu duraan itti hin awwaalamin tokkotu ture.
Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden was a new tomb in which no person had yet been buried.
42 Sababii guyyaan sun guyyaa Qophii Yihuudootaa turee fi iddoon awwaalaa sunis waan dhiʼoo tureef Yesuusin achi keessa kaaʼan.
Because it was the day of preparation for the Jews and because the tomb was close by, they laid Jesus in it.
